Something's horribly wrong with your XP then.

And BTW the official drivers for XP are 169.25 and for vista are 169.21 so they are NOT the same drivers.169.25 are simply terrible.

It isnt amazing for gaming. You can tell yourself all you want to.

Is this the reason why it's so amazing?

So the multitudes of review site benchmarks are wrong?

Vista isn't bad for gaming, but it certainly isn't better or level with XP. I have been using Vista for the majority of games, has been fine for the most part. I like it much better as an OS besides game usage. Games are much better on XP though. I just got a sound card too, and EAX doesn't work properly at all with games like The Witcher no matter what settings I use in ALchemy. Gets all jacked up after a couple minutes. Works perfectly in XP, and it's a big difference in sound.

XP beats Vista for gaming, as well as for overall system stability. Vista was nice looking for the few weeks it was in my system, but the constant crashes that all came back from google as Vista-specific we're simply too much. XP has been rocksolid ever since.

You could of over overclocked, resulting in actual poorer performance.

Also, that's only one benchmark, not many.

Been a while since I looked but last I checked, all of the updates for Windows XP does not *automatically* include the latest update to the DX9 drivers. You have to go get that manually. I've mentioned this in another thread quite a while ago: The sole act of updating my DX9 drivers from the August '07 to November '07 release got me an extra ~450 in 3DMark06 (from approximately 9320 to 9770). But that of course doesn't translate to some amazingly higher FPS in games. As always its different for different games, but nothing went down. And since some games can be more sensitive to overclocking than others, it's not exactly shocking to run across a situation like this. The only thing to do is run a range of tests under both OSes and come up with a proper table of comparisons.

we've got to keep in mind that your tests merely included counter-strike (and to a lesser extent, TF2, it appears). hell, I wouldn't even notice the FPS difference without FRAPS . . .

so now we want you to test TF2 at stock and overclocked GPU speeds with both xp and vista :P . . . jk

incase you didnt notice, the 8800gt is close to that of a performance of a gtx. and being that sli is very buggy, i wouldnt be suprised to see that. there is usually a performance drop in vista, but games for the most part are usually still very playable even with 10 fps drop. and the added future proofing of DX10 makes vista a bit better in my eyes. only thing i dont like is how bad cod4 runs for me right now, but thats because my video card is really lacking. as for vista vs. xp out of gaming, i havnt noticed any crashes or problems what so ever. only thing i have done to tweak vista is a new wallpaper and i disabled those annoying permission messages... both of which are very simple to do.

I'm using Vista 64-bit and it's running most games really well (although, granted, I just build a new system with an 8800GTS G92). However, I have found that Oblivion is constantly stuttering, actually, more like "skipping". It's really strange because I get really good framerates. I hope I can find a solution.

Try V-Sync

It's not a tearing issue. It's as if the game pauses altogether for a split second. I actually had the same issue in Crysis once, but then when I restarted my system, performance was fine again.

We have all had a manufactor' CD at some point, it still takes lnger than 28 minutes to install it, install games and run benchmarks. and you have to download the latest driver for your GPU.

Try other games aswell, CS may be the only gme that runs better on vista.

I still think your full of s#!t though :)

Vista truly sucks, and benchmarks show that pretty much every game runs better in XP, and performance is only one of the many problems with vista.

Do you think your PERSONAL coppy of vista is somehow faster than all the benchmarks?

When i had vista fear would not run at high rez on my laptop. Hopefully vista will be better after the new service pack.
