Usually there are a several RPG's that we PC player's get to look forward to every year. This year is going to be amazing for the RPG genre! The list below is not comprehensive, yet it's amazing how many games are coming out.

  • Dragon Age II - what can I say? It's BioWare!
  • The Witcher 2 - check out gog.com (good_old_games.com) when buying this game
  • The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - I think I hear the fans screaming already
  • Deus Ex - have you seen the trailer? Simply amazing.
  • The Dark Eye Drakensang: Phileasson's Secret - the sequel to a game that you either loved or despised
  • Mass Effect 3 - two from BioWare in one year? Oh my poor checkbook.
  • Fable III - PC players had to wait
  • Diablo 3 - not my cup of tea, but it's still very popular
  • Neverwinter - Atari is making another stab at the popular D&D genre
  • Two Worlds II - The sequel is highly anticipated - though I know little about it
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic - Online only RPG. A shame I can't handle any subscription fees. I doubt many others can either.
  • Might and Magic: Heros VI - these games never end do they?
  • Star Trek Infinite Space - not the online one - this is single player
  • Sims Medieval - I don't know if this counts as RPG. But it seems to be more than the "same old" from the SIMS genre.

Competition is going to be steep for the limited wallets of the RPG gamers.

The ever popular DRM subject will probably be instrumental in deciding which games sell the best. On that note, Witcher 2 has already announced that they will be releasing the game without any protection. Not even a disk check. In the annoucement they stated that their fans enjoyment of the game is their highest priority. Companies that respect their consumers already get my vote.

Cheer for your favorite or add any I missed. I only listed the known or big games that are headed our way. Sometimes Indie games can be just as impressive as the big companies.

Let the RPG war begin!

The Witcher 2

Thread.

:D

(You don't have Two Worlds II, which is getting very favorable reviews by European Critics)

(And Venetica , although I've played that and it sucks)

I don't really like grouping Diablo 3 with games like The Witcher, ME, Dragon Age, ETC because even though Diablo is classified as a RPG, it's really a lot different from those games. Diablo 3 is my most anticipated game of 2011/2012, but I don't think it should be compared to Single Player RPGs.

The Witcher 2... cant wait for that and Diablo3.

Also RISEN2!!!!!! Thats probably one of my most anticipated rpgs next year.

The new Elderscrolls game I am interested in but I hope the vanilla camp, aign isnt as horrible as Oblivion's was and more like MOrrowind/Daggerfall. Hope its more like NEHRIM campaign.

To be honest I don't really like Diablo. But I wasn't listing only single player RPG's - just all RPG's. I don't know why it's listed as an RPG - but there you have it.

So even though I don't like Diablo I thought it only fair to include it.

For Witcher Fans:

The website gog.com is owned by the same company that develops the Witcher.

The site is "Good Old Games". These are games that don't work on new computers. For instance - Baulder's Gate doesn't work on Window 7 64 bit. Guess what - you can buy it cheap at Good Old Games without ANY DRM! AND it works on Windows 64 bit!

They are doing a special for the Witcher because they are part of the same company. The Witcher will be the only "new" game to be released on the site. They are also offering to give two free older games to anyone who buys the Witcher on that site.

Personally, I discovered the site while doing Witcher research and I just love it. And since the same fabulous company runs the site - I just want to support it and spread the news about it.

Atari is doing the publishing and Bedlam Games are the developers...can't really say I know of anything they have developed before though. The preview video does look pretty cool though.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-dungeons/708818

It's a PC/Xbox Live/PSN game so it's not going to be like the same quality as say Dragon Age or anything...it's probably going to be more along the lines of a co-op Torchlight with the D&D ruleset...or something lol.

More RPG Games:

King Arthur: The Druids

Afterfall

Age of Wulin: Legend of the Nine Scrolls - a "historical" mmorpg with a focus on martial arts. Sounds like an odd combination to me...

Crayon Shinchan - yes I checked the spelling. Another MORPG

Waren Story

Dhalia's Adventures

Mars - another post-apocalyptic game

These are other games I found that are listing their publish dates within 2011.

I don't know anything about them...so leave a post if you have info!

RPG's are the best genre! I hope the developers work hard to compete for buyers. That means better games for us.

And the RPG genre was dry for a while - especially in PC land. This year such a wonderful luxury for us PC players. Maybe I'll use some extra money to get that shiny new video card - or maybe I'll buy more games. Ah! The choices!

As i mentioned before, in this thread, it's simply not a good game. The only thing good about it is the artstyle and the graphics are charming, but the performance is bad. It has a boring combat system, very little role playing, terrible dialogue, confusing story, no character is ever developed, horrible mini-games, small world to explore. It's more like Fable than Gothic.

Some of the games will be released towards the end of 2011 there isn't much info.

But Dhailia's Adventures seems to have released it's first trailer:

It's been out in Europe for quite a while now. More than half a year i think.

This thread, and the beautiful lists in it, makes my RPG-loving heart glad. :) More Witcher, and Neverwinter, and more Bioware RPGs, and Skyrim, and Deus Ex, and, and, and... I'm so happy now. :) And what is this "limited wallet" thing you speak of? Just open the command console (with that ~ key on the upper left) and add however much gold you need to your inventory, and you're all set. :P

More Games:

E.Y.E. - This has been in development since 2009. It's not listed for 2011 yet. But some of their screenshots are looking pretty good. They may be close to finishing.

http://eye.streumon-studio.com/

Golden Land - This is listed as a "turn based RPG with character customization and multiple endings". They are done with development and working on debug.

http://www.actiontrip.com/previews/goldenland_i.phtml

The Dark Eye: Demonicon - oops...I missed another "Dark Eye" during my inital list. There's not much info. So it may be a sequel to Drakensang or another chapter entirely.

Can't wait for The Witcher 2, Deus EX, and ME3.

Just watched the trailer for Age of Wulin, been wanting to play a game similar to Jade Empire for a while and thought it looked good. Then I saw it was a free to play MMO made by gpotato.

Patrician Online - I only know one thing about this game "Free to play browser game". Love the first part of that sentence...the second half not so much. But I'll hold off judgement until it actually get's released.

Winifred Online - Only for those who like Anime style games. There is a gameplay video up on Gamespot.

Faxion Online - Looks like Beta Testing has ended for this online game.

I seriously thought I'd gotten most of the games. But here's some more:

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - snowblind studios - multiplayer action game

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - THQ, Relic - action rpg - couple of traliers are available

Path of the Exile - Grinding Gear - Free-to-play Online game with a dark fantasy setting

Darkspore - Electronic Arts, Maxis - sci-fi RPG - Developer Diary video is available

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Electronic Arts, 38 Studios - single player RPG - Comic Con Preview Videos available

Ministry of War - Snail Game - Free-to-play Online RPG

SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny - JoWood Entertainment- Developer Interview Available

Okay - I think (cross fingers) that's the end of what I can find for 2011.

Witcher 2 is one of the few games I'll pre-order this year. DRM issues almost require you to "wait and see" for at least a month. All those stressful initial release bugs get worked out too. I might be forced to wait for prices to go down on a few games too - although that would take a lot longer.

I've heard a lot of people say they like Two Worlds 2. I'm going to have to look into that one.

I'm hoping Dragon Age's 2 combat is going to be a lot better than the initial one. I'm really looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Elder Scrolls - I'm holding back on that one. I got the last one thinking it would be great. But the character models weren't that great - some of the side plots were fun - but the main plot less so. Then there were other side quests that were so repetitive they were a chore very quickly. Horse Riding wasn't fun - and combat on horses' was non-existent. Modding was a big deal for that game. They've fixed tons of combat and magic issues. But quite frankly, I think the developers depend too much on mod communities sometimes. Release the game finished - don't make the modders do your work!

Rage - That was one I didn't know about. Postapocalyptic again though - I'm sorry I happen to like a living backdrop for my game. Call me crazy.

~edit~ I just noticed Rage is not an RPG. It's FPS. ~edit~

I honestly can't decide which one I will get first. I will most likely post-pone the purchase of Dragon Age 2 initially because I know it will go down in price later as more DLC gets added. Might get The Witcher 2 initially (good reviews will change the 'might' to definitely) and of course Mass Effect 3. Must see it to the very end.

I AM GETTING EVERY RPG!!!! You know I used to be a big shooter fan but I've mellowed out of that genre and RPGs have taken their place.

  • Dragon Age II - Might play it
  • The Witcher 2 - I'm playing the 1st now and might get this
  • The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - Not interested
  • Deus Ex - Not interested yet
  • The Dark Eye Drakensang: Not interested yet
  • Mass Effect 3 - Getting it since I have multiple saves from ME2
  • Fable III - I have it on 360, and it better have less glitches too
  • Diablo 3 - I need to play the 1st 2 1st.
  • Neverwinter - Not interested
  • Two Worlds II - My interest hasn't rose yet
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic - MMOs? I want to try it though I don't like those types of games much
  • Might and Magic: Heros VI - Not interested
  • Star Trek Infinite Space - Not interested
  • Sims Medieval - Not interested

I'm so picky.

...and you didn't even mention Guild Wars 2, which is a real possibility Q4 2011

Love to FINALLY see a good sp Star Trek game that isn't based off Voyager, the very worst series of the 5.

(You don't have Two Worlds II, which is getting very favorable reviews by European Critics)

Finally a year I can buy more than 2 new releases. Here is hoping the good ones, aside from the Witcher 2, opt out of securom or the like.
