it wont play anything like that ARMA 2 is way too clunky and has penis shooting mechanics for any type of survival horror stuff

Is the handgun as useless as it is in ArmA II? If it is then I'll wait for Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

How is it wrong? I finished every part of the training fairly quickly except the handgun training. I had no idea that pistols shoot in completely erratic patterns.

You obviously have never played any survival horror games because the majority of them have clunky aiming mechanics...Arma's "realistic" aiming works out great for the genre because it makes hitting a sprinting zombie actually hard.

I played the mod last night and it was awesome. There are about 3-5 50 person servers full playing it. The servers are persistent and you can choose to ban together or kill others...it's truly the best zombie survival simulator I have ever played.

I'd have to reinstall, but I'd be down for trying it out with some people from GS.

Edit: Gonna try it out in a couple hours, let me know if you would like to join.

I'll be playing it later tonight. It's servers are always full so it's hard to get in but it's awesome when you do. Add me on Steam, Drakes821. Oh and I'm the US.

Can't get into any server today. Get stuck on "Waiting for server to respond" after loading. Checked the forums and a lot of people are having the same problem. Guess I'll wait and try tomorrow.:(

the arma 2:CO sales have increased so much since this mod came out, its now on the steam most popular purchase list. The mods alot of fun, but I still wish a real developer would make a dedicated game like this. Just the popularaty of this mod should be enough too show that the demand for the game would be there.

Does anyone have the actual size for the download? My 1TB drive is rapidly approaching near full and I really really want to install/play this, so I need to start thinking about what games I should delete in order to make way.

In the meantime I was just browsing the forum and looking up videos, and I'm ridiculously impressed by what I see. I love the idea of being able to split off into groups and coming across other survivors in a server of 50 (or one with 100, I hear) who may start trying to kill you because you're carrying more food or better weapons, so it becomes a The Walking Deadsituation. If they made this into a full game with nicer animation--and let's be honest here, it's pretty godawful--it could be THE definitive post-apocalyptic MMO survival simulator.

Arma 2+ Operation Arrowhead is about 16GB I think. The actual mod files are pretty small, 160mb total.

^ All right, thanks. I've had CO installed for a while now (and if anyone wants to play the mod/gametype War, I'm always up for that. It's fricking awesome) and I really have no more space to add another game, glad DayZ is so small.

Man, this mod is awesome, so intense fighting zombies plus bandits, just WOW best mod i have played in my life...played 5 hours straight, this is hardcore gameplay i'm telling you, maybe we can play together this weeked?

Oh and the survival part make this even better, you have to drink water, eat, use bandages, painkillers, find weapons, etc.

btw there are also cars and helicopter but those are rare.

PS: i played nightime which is 10x more intense probably.

Awww... I hear DayZ servers are filled with bandits (player killers) these days. I hope we could find a half decent server to just fight zombies.

Had some crazy matches of this today, did a few with pickle from this site, had a blast.

I was running along the beach, it was very dark, just following along the water, get to this village, I hear these zombies all of a sudden and then i see 4 of them rushing me. I started to run back to this lighthouse I was at previously. Rushing as fast as I could, the zombies a few feet behind me. Not enough time to turn around and shoot, so Im just running nonstop.

Then I get a msg from Gibsy (pickle) on steam as im running for my life, thinking I am dead. It says to meet back at the lighthouse (as we are looking for each other). I am almost there, zombies right on the tail, they are so loud, my dog comes running in barking at the loud zombie noises, getting all crazy aswell. Finally make it to the lighthouse after about 5-10 mins running along the beach being chased by 4 hungry zombies. I climb up the ladder just as they try to grab me, barely made it up. Im looking around, then off in the distance I see a flare.

I had heard stories from some friends about people teaming up and hunting down the other survivors, so I was not sure who it was coming, I was hoping it was Gibsy but then I relized 4 zombies had chased me here. Luckily they had wandered off and Gibsy made it up to the lighthouse (I had my pistol zoomed in right on him incase he was a bandit hehe). We then missioned into the village and got into a huge battle with some zombies, survived awhile but then I got attacked from behind and Gibsy from the side. Ohh good times :P

I won't lie, my heart was racing sooo fast while those zombies chased me. The sound and atmosphere was just very creepy and scary as I ran for my life in the dark, with only the moon and its light against the water to lead me :P

Yeah, i just tried another server and didn't see any bandits, found a group and we tried to defend a house but ran out of ammo and had to get out of there, lost 2 guys:shock:

Played for 3 hours with Agpickle from this site. We didn't even do that much spectacular stuff, but it's still very intense to explore a zombie-infested village when there's just two of you. Unfortunately we ended up going in a huge circle due to my superior orientation skills... I actually know the map pretty well, but much like in real life, it's near impossible to tell which way is North if I don't have a compass. I really need to learn navigating by the sun/moon.

Anyway, if anyone wants to join us later, that would be cool.

I became a bandit today, it was quite fun. Had a sniper rifle with me, hid in forests and picked out a group of three in a small town. I don't think I'd want to be a bandit forever though, else it'd be hard to get around cities without being shot at.

I still can't get it to work. I'll just wait until I build my new PC and start with a fresh ArmA 2 CO install to try.

The mod looks amazingly fun. If it's awesome enough, maybe we could get a dedicated server for ourselves.

dav2693

What do you normally get with ArmA 2?

On big, very full maps, like DayZ, it's pretty common to get much lower FPSs than in the less populated maps.

If anything, the Day Z mod runs surprisingly well for me, especially given how many zombies/players there are in the cities.

Also, who wants to bet that this will eventually be made into a standalone game? The potential is there, and so is the demand when I take a look at how popular this mod is at the moment.

If anything, the Day Z mod runs surprisingly well for me, especially given how many zombies/players there are in the cities.

Also, who wants to bet that this will eventually be made into a standalone game? The potential is there, and so is the demand when I take a look at how popular this mod is at the moment.

Hopefully me you and Gibbsy can meet up in game sometime :P

Three people must be a good deal easyier then 2 :P

It depends... if we all end up spawning on completely different parts of the map, it can be harder. :D The advantage is that I know Chernarus quite well (despite the wrong turn I took with agpickle last night...), and I even have a physical map of Chernarus that came with the Arma X package. The only problem is that it's on the back of a poster that's on my wall...

Btw, I wish this mod gave you a little more useful starting equipment. The Makarov is really crappy, and travelling can be very tedious if you're trying to meet up. A boat to travel along the coastline would be nice, and maybe a bolt action rifle to start out with instead of a pistol that has shoddy accuracy beyond a distance of 20m.

I still can't get it to work. I'll just wait until I build my new PC and start with a fresh ArmA 2 CO install to try.

The mod looks amazingly fun. If it's awesome enough, maybe we could get a dedicated server for ourselves.

Yeah I had to do a fesh instal of CO to get it to work, after that though it was easy.

I'm getting only 30fps even on low, reinstalling drivers, are you guys getting good fps?

Wasdie

What do you normally get with ArmA 2?

On big, very full maps, like DayZ, it's pretty common to get much lower FPSs than in the less populated maps.

Reinstalled drivers, defragmented, tried the ARMA II benchmark and 70 fps avg but low gpu usage (30-40%), played a singleplayer map 90+ fps and 99% gpu usage, tried another singleplayer mission 30fps and low gpu usage again then tried Day z 25-30fps and 20%-30% gpu usage ;(.

Whats your fps while playing Day z guys?

The game is very CPU heavy not GPU.

It's also normal for a mode like DayZ to cause lower FPS since it has ~200 NPCs on the map, 50ish players, and items scattered about. It creates quite a load on the CPU to keep track of everything.
