Fallout is the only good 'rpg' you have on there.. The rest are only really good overall games, but their RPG elements leave something to be desired, to some extent.. AT least what I consider RPGish..

You need to adddd... Bloodlines, Arcanum, KOTOR series, Baldurs gate (duh), Planescape Torment (duh again). I don't mind you neglecting the first two, but the latter two are like so obvious that it's offensive you put some of those on your list over that :p

For me it's a tough choice between Arcanum, Planescape, and Bloodlines.... I'd just have to say.... Planescape.. I thrive on such brilliant stories that are so impossible for me to find even in fantasy novels nowadays.. Arcanum, also, but not quite as good, and the general plot setting is cooler, and Bloodlines has such an awesome atmosphere and stylish RPG gameplay choices, but something about that Planescape story. Not just the story itself, but the way they told it to you, or rather, how you 'play it out'.. Gosh, just thinking about it.. Figuring out the crazyness and how people somehow keep knowing you, all the hugely different reactions everyone had to you, the extremely deep concepts put into it, why your former lives were the way they were... So much emotion in that game. Brilliance

Bastards have me thinking about it, too.. I mean.. The desperation! You could 'feel' the desperation of your nameless character as he tries so hard to figure these things out, the frustration when he has to find so many things just to get tiny hints about what he even really is, and he never really finds out.. And when you meet the different versions of you! Man, that was such an awesome idea for the developers to do.. You could have had to play the game through, with only knowing about what your former selves did, and how they did it and all that such, but the developers even gave you the chance to SPEAK to your selves! And ask them questions.. ask them why, figure out why all this torturous experience you had to go through.. It was such an incredible feeling when you finaly figure out WHY all this stuff.. All these things behind this aggrivatingly intense and frustrating mystery that you don't even know about yourself! And when you can actually talk to the original you! And the crazy you that messed you up so much and you could actually help him at the very end.. And the mystery of Morte, and why and who he really was (although I'd like to have learned more about who he was and such), but it was just so much story in such a short time, so intense when you learned so many different brilliant answers to all these questions that the developers weave into this story, and instill this NEED to learn why just like your character must have the need to know why, and they ever so slowly leak tiny little hints to you and let you feel that wonderful feeling when your mind is blown away by the answers to why.. It was so amazing. Even take out the entire awesome planar realms and planar travel, and other incredible setting that the game also had, and you'd still have one of the best games and best stories to ever be written.

Hrmm.. After remembering Planescape, I think I'm ready to start another epic storyline, and I have yet to do the baldur's gate series or Fallout, and I know they are popular with the same people that liked Planescape, so I may as well.. Should I play Baldur's Gate 1, then Tales of Sword Coast, then Baldur's Gate 2, then Throne of Bhaal? And Fallout, should I start with number 1, and then 2? How important are the expansions to the games? Or mostly, the storylines/plot/etc? That's all I'd want to play them for, since I don't normally enjoy the actual gameplay of RPGs, and play them mostly for the stories

Or should I just stick to Baldur's Gate 2 and Fallout 2, since the earlier ones may be overly outdated, or at least in Baldur's Gate, not as good, compatibility issues, etc?

Well i played alot of rpg's as most of yall probably did.My option for Best RPG is MORROWIND.It's by far better than Oblivion if you wouldn't grade the graphics.Look at oblivion's main storyline is about 7 hours long for a real  gamer.....7 hours for an rpg?WEAK!!!NeverwinterNights 2 impressed me as well it was like A KOTOR and a Neverwinter NIghts combined with better graphics...Obsidian is good i'll give you that.Gothic well a good rpg with it's unik feeling...Good but it doesn't have the liberty u have in morrowind and the story is gnomish compared to Morrowind's.The second Gothic was good but the third was a failure a complete disgrace  with our hero wonderin here and there ....KOTOR was a good RPG also but still kinda poor ,it had a really solid story one of the best i may add but still not enough liberty and not enough choices and not alot of inovating things...Kotor 2 was an improvement but the story lost some of it's intensity.Morrowind has a lot of bugs graphics are clearly outdated but that doesn't make it a bad if you look at the story it's the most solid one i ever played I truly believe if they would make a movie after Morrowind it would top the Box Offices. It's amazing clearly a genius must have wrote it.The graphics at that time where kinda like how the graphics of Oblivion seem to us at this time. The gameplay is verry well structured the sound is magnificent it gives the game a oriental but still mysterious aura. The quests are far far better than Obliovion's or any other game. It's got a liberty which no other game by that time had it renewed the world of rpg.And i can keep doin this all day but if it wasn't for some bugs and things Morrowind would have gotten like a 9+ and is better than Oblivion from the opinions of experienced gamers.Pls play them both and finish Morrowind and it's expansion packs than judge. No other game may compare to Morrowind and that's that.If u wanna contradict me feel free to do it but only if u finished Morrowind and it's expansion packs...

Diablo 2 is just so good. Can still throw it on today and play it, and its still fun.
KOTOR comes 2nd with NWN coming 3rd for me.

Now lets write a paragraph expressing my extremely valuable opinion while flaming other people to feel important..

Diablo 2 is an Action - RPG - it shouldn't be there, Oblivion is great and all BUT the gameplay is sooooooo boring on the other hand Gothic series may be buggy but patching fixes everything and the gameplay is great , never played any Fallout games so my vote goes to: Gothic series

I completly agree. Why Max Payne 1 was not included in a poll for best RPG is beyond me. What was the OP thinking!?!

Im actually suprised not a lot of people have gone for Final Fantasy 7. It had all the elements that an RPG should have.

Degrees of difficulty changing throughout the game, humour, great story line, sub-games, discoverable things.

It was the first game that really had me hooked, and a game that I didnt put down for weeks, would come home on goes PSX and FF7 only stopping for eating and sleeping. FF8 onwards were a bit disappointing and lost its charm a bit.

If you wanted to add that ,then you'd HAVE to add Chrono Trigger, too, so I think we'll just stick away from console RPGs and stick with complaining at the op for no putting morrowind, BG, and Planescape. Yeah, I forgot about morrowind..

How DARE you op, forgetting about morrowind.. Disgusting.

Yeah, in a round-about way, but it's not a PC game, it's a classic that they brought over. Considering every console game is available on the PC, and how long it was before it was brought to the PC, and the fact that it was a classic with such status that it had.. I wouldn't consider it a pc game.

I'm sure it does, but it just seems like you'd get a much more competitive poll if it just wasn't in there.. It's really not as epic compared to Planescape and BG, and even KOTOR to most people. If you put Fallout, Planescape, BG, KOTOR, and Other, despite the fact I personally think Arcanum belongs up there.. It just doesn't have the status to get the votes.. Those games all would have gotten a great number of vote and it would have been interesting to see who'd win, although I don't think it would be KOTOR. Maybe I should make my OWN Who's the best RPG thread, and order the mods to delete yours! *muahaha*

I had a blast with the DD demo, but after leaving Aleroth, the game lost its initial appeal for me. Nevertheless, DD featured incredible 2D graphics. Also, the soundtrack is the best I've ever come across in an RPG.

My vote would be for Morrowind followed by several infinity engine games... probably PS-Torment, BGI+II, 1st NWN, and fallouts. I like Oblivion but the RPG aspects of it are not good at all so like others it doesnt make it on my RPG list. FFVII... and franky all FF games cant touch past or current PC rpg's in terms of story, complexity, and gameplay. It was an excellent game for consoles back when consoles couldnt compete but all FF are extremely linear, too easy all around, and the stories were almost non-existent and silly. They are fun time fillers when there are no other games to play however.

Oh u must be one of them Oblivion h8ers. And why doesn`t it make any sense? U think it`s a FPS quest style so it`s not a RPG or what?

Erm....No...  It's just a horrible RPG game :|  Easily the worst Bethesda has ever made and one of the worst to come out recently.

Fallout Series, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate series are the 3 greatest rpgs of all time, bar none. Black Isle are geniuses.

Why is oblivion of all elder scrolls games there? the poll should include:

Fallout series

Baldurs gate series

planescape torment

Elder Scrolls series(excluding oblivion)

Ultima series

KOTOR series

Neverwinter Nights series

Other(Name it)

FF7 and you all know that's true or Crono Trigger Fingerella69er

Those games were fantastic, but the stories in Arcanum and Planescape were just as good, respectively. The difference for me is how the gameplay in PC RPGs has a much larger affect on the storyline itself. The choices, and the different parts of the story that are shown to you. You can play through Planescape, and I would think that Chrono Trigger's story rivals it well, but the difference is the fact that you can play through the entire game of Planescape, and even half of the entire brilliant of the story you might not even get to. You may play through once and speak to a character while having low charisma and think he's just some guy, but with higher charisma playing through again, or with different dialogue choices, find out that he's like.. Your father and he caused some huge dilemna and that's the reason that all this huge part of the game is the way it is.. That's just an example, I don't think you can meet your father :p But you do meet the original you, but you may easily just not pick the right dialogue choices and play through without ever knowing. The ability to change your storyline in a story that's just as good as Chrono Trigger, which I absolutely loved, in such a huge way just brings it far above those old classic console RPGs.

On that list it is Oblivion.  I hate the Fallout series because I think the questing is crap and the combat system is turds.  That's my opinion, so Sierra Mike Foxtrot Delta if you don't like that I said I hate it.

Next would be Diablo II for favorite on that list.

Really should have the NWN games on there, dude.

So is this just for PC RPGs? cause i think Crhono Cross and Xenogears is the best RPG's but you seem to be only focusing on Western RPG's so i'll go with Other World of Warcraft.

Hmm first of all: this is not a poll on MMORPGs or console RPGs. Second: I see Fallout comes in first so far... I must admit it`s a great game, but I`m a little surprised... Since I dind`t have space to list others this is the TOP Others how it stands from ur replies:

NWN series : 5

Morrowind: 5

Planetscape Tournament: 6

Baldur`s gate series: 9

KotOR: 8

FF series (on PC): 4

That is the worst mauling of Planescape:Torment that I've ever seen :) All kidding aside, I've had the most enjoyment out of the Gothic series, with Elder Scrolls and Baldur's Gate as close runnerups.

[QUOTE="SuperBeast"][QUOTE="emmm78"]

[QUOTE="SuperBeast"]How could you possibly have Oblivion on a poll for best RPG? That doesn't make any sense at all. fortmyerspolice

Oh u must be one of them Oblivion h8ers. And why doesn`t it make any sense? U think it`s a FPS quest style so it`s not a RPG or what?

Erm....No...  It's just a horrible RPG game :|  Easily the worst Bethesda has ever made and one of the worst to come out recently.

your one of those dungeons and dragons dweebs.

Eh, Oblivion is the master of copy and paste dungeons... That and leveled loot were my least favourite things about that game.
