You have to have a certain type of mind to enjoy these BG, Fallout, Planescape type games, really.. Many people won't get it at all, and can play it forever and never get it, but most people that have a real passion for these games and love brilliant storylines and such.. Many people who play RPGs as a passion, and I don't mean Oblivion (although Bloodlines can count), or Diablo style games are just the certain type of people who enjoy story, atmosphere, setting, dialogue more than anything.. And if you are that type of person, then it's like... no questions asked Fallout is thousands of multiple times better than those other games.
Many of us are probably wondering how you could even imagine putting fallout in even the same poll as those other games, and how you didn't somehow put BG and Planescape in there somehow.. And they are very surprised at the fact that this poll surprised you, and probably pretty amazed that those other games somehow scored so high compared to Fallout.
But there's nothing wrong with you, and I personally don't think you're going to somehow 'see' the greatness in Fallout that makes it so much better than those other games listed above like we do.. You can try.. You can get into the story and atmosphere and setting and dialogue and really try and make a character in this world and admire the brilliant writers and uniqueness of the game and such.. But I still doubt you'll see it more than just another good RPG. You just probably have different tastes. Anyway, have fun with Fallout.
You may be right and I admit that perhaps the list I`ve made isn`t that conclusive, but then again if there were so many guys like you to disagree OTHER would have won... nevertheless as I had stated above I tryed to count OTHERs from replies and still there`s a big gap between BG or Planetscape and Fallout and only as a personal belief I also assume that they would not have topped Oblivion or Diablo2. There is no argue that since mentioned every game in people`s replies is a great game, but by popular choice the results are undoubtful.
And for people who say my poll makes no sense please check ur gaming manual on RPG definition. I don`t care if it`s an action, TB or whatever RPG, it`s still a RPG.
According to definition, almost every single game is an RPG to some extent. The RPG genre, however, has a lot of definitions and depends on the person.. Some people say that if it's an 'RPG', then it must be BG style, anything else much be called what it is, E.G. 'RPG/FPS', or Action-RPG
I consider anything that bases itself in things like atmosphere, story, characters, character advancement, character personalization, and etc., to an extent that just 'feels' right to me, is an RPG. So that includes classic RPGs, Oblivion, etc. Doesn't include Diablo for me, though :p
Like I said before.. I can guarantee that if you had physically put Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, and KOTOR up there as a choice, they would have gotten at the very least 50 votes at this point, probably more. Altogether, they would have EASILY gotten 150 votes. The way that you put 'other' doesn't mean that all those people who would have voted one of those three games would have voted for Other, making 'other' therefore 150 votes.. It just doesn't work that way :p People are weird like that.
The only basis I have for that is the fact that Fallout won by over 20.. It easily won over those games, which makes me assume that the types of people that are doing a lot of voting in this thread are the type of people that enjoy games like Fallout. And many people (most people, really, according to my experience in these forums) who like Fallout style games also absolutely loved Baldur's Gate, and Planescape, and it would have spread out a bit more. Obviously there's no way to prove that, besides making another poll, and I don't think anyone cares enough nor does it matter enough to do that :p
You can't count the people who were willing to click your thread, click other, click reply, type the name of Baldur's Gate, and Planescape and KOTOR out, against the people that clicked your thread.. clicked fallout.. clicked okay.. and then left. People are lazy, remember that :p
