I got the idea from a SW thread, I think these are pretty fair choices.

LOL...notsureifsrs.jpg... So guys, what do you think I should do? I got into PC gaming first with BF1942...and Morrowind was my first RPG many years ago. When I first got into PC gaming I never knew about the original Fallout games, never did hear of Planescape, never played the original Deus Ex games (1-2). and never played the original Baldur's Gate games (1-2). Should I go buy all of these and make sure I play them eventually? Did I miss out on a truly epic gaming experience?None of those, Fallout 3 is the best RPG..

Planescape is truly something special from everything to the writing, story, soundtrack, art, and gameplay.None of those, Fallout 3 is the best RPG..

I agree, although this forum is incredibly biased against Fallout 3 and Oblivion as you can see.

No, this forum has more older gamers than new gamers. The modern RPGs are good, but they are not on the same level with those epic RPGs of old.[QUOTE="hydr0_32"]

Biased? Give me a break...You meant truthful. Fallout 3 sucked...and Oblivion didn't live up to the title of Elder Scrolls IV.[QUOTE="mastershakez"]

Fallout 3 most definitely did not suck, why it the hell it sucked? Infact it was an improvement over oblivion in rpg terms! Well while I enjoyed Fallout 3 and thought it was a good game. Improving on Oblivion is not saying much. Oblivion was a step back from Morrowind's greatness. Oblivion just did not have that certain depth Morrowind had. Sure the map is bigger in Oblivion, but there just was not as much to see. Anyways thankfully Fallout 3 was a step in the right direction. The world was much more interesting than Oblivions.[QUOTE="DasVolks"]

No, this forum has more older gamers than new gamers. The modern RPGs are good, but they are not on the same level with those epic RPGs of old.The games are not epic, it's just nostalgia for the game. The games WERE epic, just as Fallout 3 is epic today(obviously not to most of the people who played 1&2). Fallout 3 is an amazing game. This is my opinion, but it is also shown to be true based on professional reviews and sales. If anything can say what games are great and what aren't, that is clearly it.
For example, I think GTA4 was an insulting pile of crap, but I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a good game with someone who liked it. Because clearly, it was a popular game that got amazing reviews. It would just be ignorant of me to tell someone who liked it that the game is horrible.

Well the thing that ruined it big time was the terrible combat system. Gun play was terrible. VATs system was stupid.
The atrocious combat system in that game made it unplayable. I spent about a week on the game, with some long sessions in there too.
Uninstalled the game and never looked back.

So still awesome writing(planescape torment) is just nostalgia when compared with the atrocious written dialog and story in oblivion/fallout3? Riiiight..
flame me all you want but im really enjoying dragon age.. to the point that I might call it my personal fav :)
Yup, it is confirmed, the hate for oblivion and dragon age cannot be hidden. The reason i say it cannot be hidden is because someone said it sucked. I bet everyone would quote that user if i did not say "it most definetly did not suck, it was an improvement over oblivion" and after that people quote me just to say that that does not mean anything and blah, blah, blah!!! Who gives a damn? Point was made, it did NOT suck. I did not said its the best rpg ever, i just said it did not suck. Why we got to lower that too? But anyway i really liked vats, it was a cool idea. I really despise the fact that a user "fixed" someones post in order to say its the first rpg he ever played. I played fallout 1 and 2 before fallout 3 and i do like fallout 2 more but i think fallout 3 comes second. Also i played morrowind and i thought it was pretty meh after that i played oblivion and i loved it!! What you got to say about that? "Nothing, you just like dumbed down games." Really? if that is true why i did not like mass effect and fable but i loved kotor, dragon age and the witcher?dakan45
Dakan you of all people should realize that consistency is not a strong point on these forums. "I hate this game but I love this game" when the difference is so minimal as to be ridiculous to contemplate. I'm not saying there is no difference just not differences enough to make such a polarizing opinion. An example would be Morrowind and Oblivion. I liked both games and didn't compare one with the other, I just enjoyed them.
There are as many definitions as to what makes a RPG as there are RPGs. So if the game doesn't meet that definition of RPG then it isn't a RPG. Or it isn't a good RPG. This is the way of things with people. I personally have enjoyed almost all the games that are listed and mentioned here except Fallout 1 and Bloodlines because I've never played them and Fallout 2 because I didn't like the atmosphere and feeling of the game. But I wont say it sucked because it didn't. I'm for letting a thousand candles light the way, all with their own and unique beauty.
