Yeah I had an absolute blast with both New Vegas and Fallout 3, but the setting was just incredibly bland and not paced very well compared to Fallout 3 (which felt like it had a more proper arc and a much more interesting world).
Hey guys. I just got F3 off of Steam and finally got it up and running (having fixed the dual cores processor issue) and would like to use some mods. But I have no idea what I'm doing really. The only other games I've modded were Silent Hunter IV (using JSGME), and ArmA II for DayZ (using DayZ Installer). Even with Silent Hunter I could barely get ONE to run correctly, much less multiple mods at once without major headaches.Ā
What I'm wondering is, is there some sort of "mega mod" that overhauls visuals, sounds, and the UI all in one so I don't have to hassle with load order or conflicts? If not, what are the best/most compatible to get? And is there a utility to help do this for PC illiterate dopes like me? I have no trouble tinkering around in folders, but am at a loss when problems arise, or in what order I should install mod files.
Ā
I've always wished for different weather in F3 and better textures etc. I've gone onto the Nexus site briefly on my phone, and don't know where to begin. I guess what I'm wondering is: best mods and easiest way to us them? Thanks. MirkoS77
Don't bother thinking about load order or conflicts, the effects of both are minimal unless you're installing a mod of another mod.
I disagree. Your load order can have a huge impact on how many bugs you will encounter if you have more than a couple of mods installed.ShadowJax04
I had >200 Oblivion mods installed, 120 NV mods installed, and I now have 116 Skyrim mods installed, only times I bothered checking the load orders was when I was either loading mods that had dependencies or mods I made myself to change things in other mods I didn't like.
It's not something that can be argued, it's something you know. Or as in your case, you don't.
Junk game? I was expecting you would mention some software that would make Fallout 3 look like junk until I saw you got 120 mods in New Vegas!"Can yours beat mine?"
I certainly hope not, because that'd mean I have dedicated too much time on a junk game.
128 enabled addons, that's half as much as the cap allows. I think I got to about 120 in NV.

You got 100's of mods eh? Why don't you post your load order here. Looks like I got competition

You didn't even mention FO3 once and go on to say I'm wrong. Regardless I'll give you an answer and talk about New Vegas: Take The Strip Open and Freeside Open. Some odd 100 mods will work fine without a load order but some other 100 mods do not. Try running these two without giving a slightest thought to load order and see what happens. You will see the game crash every time you try and enter the Lucky 38 especially. Unless you setup your load order as these mods do have dependencies as you just mentioned. Ironically afterwards you say it cannot be argued and that I don't 'know' which shows you have no idea what you are talking about.load order matters a lot... if it didn't affect your game, it was luck
Ā
that beeing said, fallout 3 vanilla is trash, bethesda can't make games, they just make great editors

The modding in Bethesda games is so similar that in FO3, NV and Skyrim, before the official mod kits were released, the first mods were created using either the editors of the previous games with some tweaks, and/or TESSnip. In fact if you launch the Fallout 3 GECK and look through global variables you'll see a shipload of variables that have the exact same name as they had in Oblivion...except they are never used in the game and in fact it doesn't even make sense for them to be in Fallout 3 (magic and skill related ones mainly).
While before it could be argued that you were an overcautious scaremonger, now it is obvious to anyone who has ever launched the GECK and the Oblivion creation kit that you have no clue about how the Bethesda engine modding works, otherwise you'd know how silly what you just said is. Good job.

Luck can save you from a conflict of two mods, not from years of checking, unchecking and swapping load orders with mods that I made myself in a library of, as I said before, over 400 mods.

Sorry, really didn't like Fallout 3. Should've been less exagerated about it but there it is. Except for the environment I think everything in it is terribly average. I managed to finish the main storyline, Anchorage and the Pitt before I uninstalled it. As soon as I get home again I'll post my load order if this thread is still alive.
Which open world RPG does all of this better? New Vegas does pretty much everything better than Fallout 3.[QUOTE="robokill"]I felt the same way about Fallout 3, very average even the environment in a lot of parts for me too. Too much cramped interior exploring (not really exploring)l-lord

Personally, I'd say the writing, most voice acting and combat/RPG mechanics are much better in NV, but atmosphere, introduction, pacing, set pieces, polish (though both games are absurdly buggy, 3 is less so), setting, world design and music are all much better in Fallout 3.
NV's setting was the lamest thing about it since it felt so bland an sterile compared to the Capital Wasteland.
New Vegas is about as close to the "classic" Fallout games as a FPS can get and FO:3 was simply Oblivion: with Gunz. Ā I liked NV but HATED FO:3. Ā It doesn't really matter though. Ā Wasteland 2 will (hopefully) be better than both games.

My biggest complaint about both games are the plethora of nooks and crannies filled with nothing interesting. I spent so much time going through every area an realized it's mostly a waste. In the new fallout games a companion that does the looting for the pc character would be nice because it's so damn tedious and annoying. Like a thief kind of character that can detect traps and knows the value of items and you can tell him/her to go looting for certain items, that would be nice, the fallout games are at their best when you are venturing around with your companions mowing down bigass monsters but the tedium ruins the experience sometimes

Wow, thanks for giving me MY opinion. Ā I had no idea I felt that way.
Sorry, but, no, FO:3 for me wasn't fine. Ā Actually, it took a big dump on the Fallout cannon and only resembled the previous games in title. Ā There was nothing in FO:3 that felt very Falloutish. Ā It was Oblivion: with Gunz. Ā New Vegas captured the classic Fallout vibeĀ MUCH better, although it still wasn't perfect.

Are you soo attached to stagnant game designs? Is your Ideal Fallout 3 would be a point and click game in 2D isometric perspective with semi-sandbox travelling? Without physics,Without any camera control?Stagnant game design? Ā Says who? Ā You? Ā
Well, then it must be true.Ā
Funny how all of these so-called stagnatedĀ games are making some pretty big noise lately, huh? Ā Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, Divinity: Original Sin, Project Eternity, Chaos Chronicles, Dead State, Age of Decadence, Torment, Legend of Grimrock, Might and Magic X, etc., etc., etc., all say a hearty, and soulful "hello!"
Oh, and if all I liked were these so-called stagnated game designs then how is it possible that I enjoyed New Vegas?
Ā
P.S. What do physics and camera controls add to a RPG anyway?
a: those games you mentioned, which ones are released yet/fun to play? b: physics and camera controls add immersion if implemented properly :)Stagnant game design? Ā Says who? Ā You? Ā

Fallout 3 ENB didn't exist in 2011.[QUOTE="cdragon_88"]
To TC:With all those mods and you didn't change that greenish/yellowish tint that Fallout 3 had? I thought that was the worst thing about Fallout 3. That was my first mod--fixing that god awful tint.
How did I know this was going to turn into a Fallout 3 console vs PC mod. I was actually expecting NV vs Fallout 3 also.Ā  Oh well. The last time I played Fallout 3 I had only about 10 of them forgot what they all were but the most important one was the one that changed my gameplay--something like "project reality" or something like that. Since I moved to Windows 7 my game couldn't run smooth anymore so I stopped playing it. I don't have the steam version but the boxed retail version. I had tried all the crap ini file fix such as the number of cores fix but it just doesn't run smooth. Everytime I go to a town or open a door that sends me to a loading screen it'll take about 2 mins just to load or crash. Vanilla fallout 3 was beast--I played that on my PS3 way before PC. Clocked in at 100+ hours then got the PC version and clocked in another 70+ hours. Good times. Great game.
