It runs perfect for me, online and off, with a Phenom II 3.4 Ghz Quad, GTX 480, and 4 Gb of RAM. I've talked to a lot of people having major issues though, but supposedly a patch is right around the corner, so it might not hurt to just buy and see. You might run it flawlessly, like me, and should you not, they ought to have a patch out real soon.
For me it stutters incredibly online and off, even in offline mode and steam completely shut down.
EDIT: Same with my two friends.
Im just waiting. If Treyarch supports the game like it did with WaW then this should be fixed. I dont wanna get it til thats done though. GamesterpheonixI'd recommomend go with what this man has just said. The game has some crippling bugs and seriously terrible performance across a vast array of hardware. I'd wait the storm out until picking up a copy of Black Ops.
There was just a tiny update from gameserver for some client side problems and it has made the game playable for me. I would not say its perfect but its really good now. It did not help everyone though...I think. Its hard to tell who is trolling on the Steam forums and who is genuinly still having problems, the situation on that forum has hit unimaginable levels of drama.
FINALLY I can play this game much better. The small update did wonders for me.. overall the game runs very poorly compared to MW2, though. So I'm using an FPS config for CoD 4 that has really helped my framerate for this game. 90 fps and drops to about 40, so still overall very smooth.
There are still some issues with the game, and playing with friends is tedious, but with this part fixed, it's a very enjoyable experience.
Well my computer could run CoD4 and MW2 at full specs, think I could run Black Ops at the same?ZethlisNo, not now. CoD 4 and MW2 are really smooth. I'm using a CoD 4 FPS Config in Black Ops and low settings just to get the game to run smooth. But atleast it hardly stutters anymore.. that was the real killer.

Damn that sucks cause my computer is upgraded to the fullest, guess I gotta invest in a new computer.
It's funny with all these complaints that my game runs just fine, on and offline, max settings. I just don't get it.
There's nothing to get. For some systems the game works well, and for many the game doesn'.It's funny with all these complaints that my game runs just fine, on and offline, max settings. I just don't get it.

But that's exactly what I don't get: Why it's so "terrible" for others, yet it works magically on my machine. Why is this the case?
CoD: BO has a memory leak, this causes the CPU to run at 100% no matter how powerful, causing stuttering and a few other performance issues.
PC Gamers suffer with Black Ops
Why some people have it and some don't I dont know, but most people have it. They should fix it soon, But this should of been picked up during development.
Wow were you in coma last couple of days? Forums are crumbling with people ranting about it's sluggish performance.
murekkep
I think I better get it for Wii or PS3 if there are issues with the PC version.

If we knew that, we probably would be seeing so many complaints. They didn't test Black Ops on enough different builds. During testing, it could be that they didn't run into any of these issues because there weren't enough builds to test them on. Seeing as how they have the funding backed by a big company, I don't have a clue why they were lazy about it.[QUOTE="Swedish_Chef"]They have already patched the game and as far as I can tell the issue is fixed. I played for 2 hours after my game patched and didn't stutter once. Elann2008That's great news. it isnt fixed. most people are reporting no change whatsoever.

What were you not around for FO NV? It was the same thing, judging from your level and post count it seems you have been around a while, why act like you are fresh to the pc games/forums. This is common knowledge. Not everyone is effected the same, yet the problems are there, other wise why do they make patches to fix issues that dont exist. They have already patched the game and as far as I can tell the issue is fixed. I played for 2 hours after my game patched and didn't stutter once. Swedish_ChefIts alot better, in sp and mp for me. It stills needs some more work, but its is very playable now.

For the people don't know yetTreyarch released a patch last night through steam and the MP is fine now.
Don't know if the patch fixed SP since that mode worked without any problems on my system.

Treyarch didn't have time to properly test the game. They added stuff until the last minute. The SP was sent to Canada for a rushed testing process while the MP was tested locally and had the Xbox closed beta. Thankfully they're a talented bunch so the game is extremely fun even in this broken state.
As for the engine, this is a different branch of id Tech 3 than what IW is using. Blops builds upon the WaW version of the engine.

Since when is this a acceptable reason to release broken games?

Since Activision owns the studio and demands a November release every two years.
no, it isnt.... the patch did almost nothing for most... check the steam forums. For the people don't know yetTreyarch released a patch last night through steam and the MP is fine now.

It amazes me that people seem to think that all developers can make and release a game at their own pace.[QUOTE="UnrealDelusion"]no, it isnt.... the patch did almost nothing for most... check the steam forums. For the people don't know yetTreyarch released a patch last night through steam and the MP is fine now.

It fixed it for me and if you are still experiencing lag after the patch all you have to is go to the players directory in the game map on your HD and delete the mp config file and voila lag gone.
The patch fixed most of the stuttering/lag issues that plagued MP early on, its all good now at least for me
These are things I've noticed so far that need fixed.
