I just ran 3DMark 06. Score of 9116. Breakdown:
SM 2: 4110
SM 3: 4790
CPU: 1850

My CPU is supposed to be great for overclocking but I have no idea how to overclock. Does anyone know of any good guides? I see a lot on the internet but they're all different.

You should definitely overclock. If my CPU could overclock, I would be happy. You should be able to kick it up to 3.0ghz. That should significantly increase your performance.

According to what the guys said, your graphics card is doing it's job. So yeah, it's your CPU. Overclock that puppy.

I grabbed the 9450 (2.66ghz) apparently, with exact same setup (motherboard, heatsink, ram etc.), I've heard I can get it to run at 3.2 - 3.4 ON AIR :D (zalman 9700 heatsink, asus rampage mobo)

Your Cpu isnt causing that big of a slow down, I was playing Crysis on a Sempron 3400 with a 7800gs and was geting 25-30 fps on a mix of medium and high settings. Its ATI and Crysis they dont like each other.

Yeah, no aftermarket or liquid cooling for my CPU :P

You might want to invest in a non-stock heatsink for your CPU if you plan to overclock tho'.

That is one sweet setup you have there. I bet you're eating Crysis for breakfast. I cant wait for the setup, argh. :P I'm downloading 3Dmark06, defragmenting, and stupid windows is updating too... lol. I'll be able to post the 3Dmark within the hour. Hang tight.

I purchased the Tuniq Tower to go with my build. I heard it was a great heatsink. Read the reviews and it's pretty solid all-around. I'll probably kick it up to around 3.4 -3.5 with the Q9550.

Well with My Rig: Athlon X2 6000,2gb DDR2,XFX 8800GT EE, I get a 3dmark06 score of 10754, and I get an average of 45fps with Crysis. I Think its ATI card causing the trouble with Crysis. Like what they say ATI are like buses their Big,Red and have bad drivers :P

Yeah, still waiting on that motherboard replacement tho' (monday should be good). I'll blog the results of my new build when it's finaly done (feel like I'm trying to make frankensteins monster here). Oh - just noticed, you hadn't done your windows updates? Because I've had that increase performance in games notably for me (my old pc has an x1900xtx).

Case sounds great man, I'm still using an old alienware case that was WAY ahead of its time. This will be like my 5th pc built in the case and it's still in practicaly new condition, great airflow etc. (bought it way back when I didn't know how to custom build).

I'm pretty sure the 4850 is supposed to be around 1/3 better than the 8800GT. Check Tom's hardware.

Yeah I'm almost certain the 4850 is significantly better than the 8800GT too. Again, crysis is another matter.

Personally I dont know what to tell you. I got the 4870, and got it Crossfired. I love it. Gets awsome performance and Crysis plays rather nice. I do believe firmly that your cpu has bottlenecked your card. I know I can run at 1280x960 all/high with no AA, 4xAA, 8xAA, and 16xAA and get all the same 50+ FPS score. At that resolution your so cpu bound that you really need a fast cpu to not get crap results.

I know i am on a 4870 and his is a 4850, and that i am CF while he is single. However getting 50+ FPS average at 1920x1200 in crysis isnt anything to scoff at with everything on high as well. In other games I do extremly well. I am sure if you had your cpu to 3ghz and reran you would notice a huge increase even with AA.

That one says different. Is it huge? no. However it depends on your resolution as well. I had a 8800GT myself. I should know it's performance range and limitations.

Only done 1900x1200, which i just up to 1920x1200 because its so small of a increase, all on high with no AA and with AA. No AA its around 53FPS average in the demo. With 4xaa is around 34FPS in the demo. I will try the hack and see how very high does. Give me a few moments.

It can be done! Here's Crysis running on Very High, with a single HD4870. So that's it, our CPU is bottlenecking like a turtle on crack.

CreasianDevaili

Nice. So in crossfire, you can play Crysis on very high no AA? What's your FPS?

Only done 1900x1200, which i just up to 1920x1200 because its so small of a increase, all on high with no AA and with AA. No AA its around 53FPS average in the demo. With 4xaa is around 34FPS in the demo. I will try the hack and see how very high does. Give me a few moments.

Very nice. Thanks. :)

This source says HD4870 runs better than 9800GX2 in Crysis. Although I find it hard to believe. What do you guys think?

Doubt it, maxishine did a benchmark and the closest thing to a gx2 was the gtx 280. (in crysis)

That's what I've seen too. I like the 9800GX2 card but the only reason I would get it is to Quad SLi. As of right now, after all I just spent, I dont think I can afford $1000 for two 9800GX2s. :(

You'd realy benefit from one, imo. (Guessing from the rest of your spec)

If that didnt reaffirm your decision on the 4870, this will. Read his specs and the settings he ran on towards the bottom of the first page. He's getting 45+ FPS on different settings, with just a single HD4870. Check it out.

I take it all back, I'm keeping my HD4870 and Crossfire mobo. LOL. :P

Make sure to check this one out. THen we should throw an HD4870 party! :P :D

If you have a CPU stock or overclocked at 3.0ghz or more, you can handle Crysis on very high, with only a single card. If you crossfire, you'll be in heaven.

LOL! Where's my CPU!!!!????

It's so phenomenal, it hurts. :P So this only means, some of the benchmarks out there are inconsistent. These people on youtube with (not top of the line PCs) are getting incredible results. When you have a great CPU, it definitely goes a long way. :D
