A k9a2 platinum will have space for four of them :) talk about overkill!duderino_23
Thats just sick, but I like it!
[QUOTE="kieran88"][QUOTE="Elann2008"]If that didnt reaffirm your decision on the 4870, this will. Read his specs and the settings he ran on towards the bottom of the first page. He's getting 45+ FPS on different settings, with just a single HD4870. Check it out.

I take it all back, I'm keeping my HD4870 and Crossfire mobo. LOL.
Make sure to check this one out. THen we should throw an HD4870 party! :P :D
If you have a CPU stock or overclocked at 3.0ghz or more, you can handle Crysis on very high, with only a single card. If you crossfire, you'll be in heaven.
Elann2008
I knew you'd change your mind. 4870 looks to be a phenomenal card :D WHERE THE HELL IS THIS DAMN MOTHERBOARD!!!!!! >:O lol /rant
LOL! Where's my CPU!!!!????
It's so phenomenal, it hurts. :P So this only means, some of the benchmarks out there are inconsistent. These people on youtube with (not top of the line PCs) are getting incredible results. When you have a great CPU, it definitely goes a long way. :D
Aye, totaly :D
Did a test, can supply a picture if needed. Anyhow I only have the crysis v1 demo. So i cant get the performance increase from 1.1 and 1.2. This is only for the timedemo as well.
1680x1050, Very High, 35FPS average. Min 21, max 46.
So take it with a grain of salt. I might need the retail version to test in game performance and see.
Still tho', Creasian. Nice! I assume that's without AA?kieran88
It is. Did a test on Very high, 2560x1600 and scored a average in the time demo of 23.925 FPS.

Nice, thats very very playable.
Hey guys, just bought my ASUS 4850 but my performance is not what I expected. I've been playing Crysis a lot and this is what I bought it for. Here are my results after the GPU benchmark.
Settings are: Everything at high, resolution at 1280x960, no overclocking.
I got an average of:
22fps on first run
30fps on second run
31fps on third run
This is quite different from this guy: http://youtube.com/watch?v=w7Gw7UiUq78&feature=related
My rig is pretty good (IMO): 2GB of ram, E6400 Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHZ, HD4850, XP 32bit, but my performance is so much worse! I was thinking of re-formatting my drive because it's so old but I don't know if it will help. Any help?
zombiefruit
First off, it may be your processer, crysis will spank a processer that is under 3.0 ghz.
2 gigs of ram, get 3 atleast. IMO itll make the load times better and it will make it run smoother.
But i am almost certain its your processer, as i said, the video card is being bottle necked and crysis will reduce that processer to nothing.
Its not the videocard mate.

Hell, even at that, not bad realy when you think about it.
But also remember that the timedemo is worthless for showing in game performance overall. Like playing the beach scene in the game.. I was hovering at near 60fps on 1920x1200 all High with alot of times hitting 75+. This was in the boat, truck, and in the jungle area running like a mofo.
I can apply the 1.1 and 1.2 patch to the SP demo. I will download, even though i have a 5gb month limit on my broadband before i get throttled for a month, the v1.1 patch and see if it helps. I DONT want to give a bad indication of Crossfire.
Less it isnt needed of course.
[QUOTE="04dcarraher"]Just because you have an 8800GT dosent mean its better. 4850 is 20-40% faster than a 8800GTWell heres some 3dmark06 benchs. I know these dont apply directly to certain games but 3dmark does give a general idea.
PC_X360
Im not saying it(8800gt) is better im just saying theres not a huge difference in general.
Oh nice one, I'll refresh this page every so often, cheers for all this feedback btw, putting my mind to ease about my new build (see the blog).kieran88
Tell me about it bro. :D Sometimes, I think all this headache, changing from this mobo to that mobo, this gpu to that one is happening for a reason. So that I can realize that I need to build a new PC and get the HD4870. 35FPS on very high is impressive for a single gpu. Man, the HD4870x2 will probably tear Crysis apart. Imagine HD4870x2 in crossfire = EPIC. HD4870 in crossfire already will produce 40+ FPS on very high. That makes me all giddy inside. :D
I just want to be able to run around the jungle without being bothered by the "FPS man."

My thoughts exactly. (drools at the thought of HD4780x2 in Crossfire)
Well i was lied to! cant update the demo to 1.1 so cant update the timedemo. I did play the beach for abit 1920x1200 very high all settings and was staying around 30fps, hitting high 40's on the beach. It was smooth. Ran through the jungle part of the beach and noticed the FPS wasnt dipping very much at all.
Flora dosent seem to effect me nearly as much as the 8800GT did.

That's awesome man. :) Thanks for taking the time to do all that. Now, we can have a peace of mind.
Will you ever Crossfire, Creasian?
Watch for your CPU when you get to firefights (especially as AI and physics calculations increase).
Crysis is very demanding on both the CPU and GPY.
Wesker776
Yup. Gosh, the firefights tear up my CPU. Crysis is kicking my butt right now but not for long. ;) :D

compare 3dmark is useless, try look at the bench and you can see the 4850 is 20-30% faster than the 8800gt on many games.
To the TC:
I have a similar setup to yours, except I'm using the E6600. I'm getting around 35FPS with the settings on high and at 1680x1050. You shouldn't be having that much trouble if you're running it at 1280x960. At least I wouldn't think there's a big difference between the E6400 and the E6600... If you haven't de-fragged your HDD yet, you might want to do that. Plus it's good to do even if it's not the problem with the game.

bdever32
the difference is the cache size. that extra 2mb makes a huge difference.
it's been said crysis runs better under a 64bit operating system as well.kieran88
I can confirm that this is true. On Vista x86 Crysis was unplayable on all Very High @ 1680x1050 No AA. On Vista x64 though I was surprised to find out that on the same settings it was quite playble. I was getting over 20fps most of the time, occasionally dropping below that when there was a lot going on on-screen
