[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"]try playing quake liveSAGE_OF_FIRE
I'm so sad that the game is slowly dying.....

Too much to learn for most fps gamers. Only reason arena shooters were ever popular is because COD wasnt around then. Whats funny is just playing an hour or 2 a week of Quake live works wonders for anyones raw fps skill. Playing Quake Live will make you better at BF and Cod than actually playing BF and Cod.

It's not just a matter of difficulty in this game, and I am sure it's not the only difficult game out there, but thanks to the horror like atmosphere, monster design, sound/music and overall gameplay mechanics, that difficulty is more emphasized. You can almost feel the pain your digital avatar goes through when he gets hit/poisoned/cursed etc.

After killing the Moonlight Butterfly, I ventured into The Catacombs. I lit the first bonfire in the area, but I am afraid that it might be the only bonfire there.

I wish the game gave you the option of restarting before a boss (at the mist door thing) with proper check-pointing. I can't count the number of times I get up from a fireplace, flawlessly kill every enemy on the way to the boss (without taking any damage at all or the damage being negligible) only to have another crack at the boss. The lack of a checkpoint means I have to go all the way back and spend ages retreading old ground just so I can get better familiarity with the boss attack patterns. It's silly. What does making me redo a section I proven I can already do flawlessly several times achieve exactly? It doesn't make the game any harder or easier, it just makes it take longer.

Because that would be too easy w/ very little punishment to the player not being able to beat the boss. Not to mention the opportunities for people to invade would be drastically reduced, which would be really lame.

The punishment for not beating the boss should be limited to not being able to progress. That strikes me as fair. Why add extra artificial layers to fluff out the game? I've already mentioned why it would not make the game any easier. I'm not asking to come back at the checkpoint with all my items and health, just come back in the same status as I was when I tripped over the checkpoint line. The game doesn't even need to save at the checkpoints either or offer me the other benefits of a fireplace. I just want another crack at the boss straight away instead of having to play some ten minutes of a section again which I have gotten down so well that I could do it in my sleep << And this is the important bit: the section prior to the boss isn't offering any real challenge, so skipping re-doing it doesn't make the game easier. Not allowing players to come back at sections that can be clearly check-pointed is a bit like arguing that not being able to skip cutscenes makes the game more challenging by increasing the amount of time a player must endure before re-attempts. I'd take a lot of issue with that. Good point on the invasions though, I hadn't considered that as I play it largely as a solo-experience.
