Has anyone found a weapon other than the M4? Seems its just that and the 45ACP pistol. I couldn't find any ammo for my M4 until I went to green mountain, then in a single room...

so now I have 450 bullets. yea.

pc gamers spending more money on unfinished games... and I thought consolites were milked... we seem to be the bigger suckers of late.

You must be just an absolute miserable person in RL. I feel bad for whoever has to be around you.

and you must be a very gullible person IRL.... i got a bridge i can sell you really cheap. just give me 5K and it is all yours.

I guess you have to be gullible to buy any game. You never really know what you're going to get until you play it.

You could say "read reviews", but I don't recall a single BF4 review mentioning that the game mostly didn't work at launch...

IGNs review did... infact i recall them putting a disclaimer that even though the game did not work very well, that they felt their score was still justified

aside from that.... this is really a carry over from another thread about star citizen, wherein MBirdy and i expressed some trepidation regarding the way the game was progressing, while airshocker ran in and blew his fanboy load all over everyone

People who spend money on this type of stuff just need to get off the PC platform. The PC gaming industry is becoming a joke. Everytime I go onto Steam I facepalm . There's thousands of s*****y indie developed titles being advertised. These games look ten years old and sale for 10 pound a pop. And lets be striaght up honest here (no b.s) most of these games suck the big one. They're AVERAGE AT BEST ( and that's just the truth) . Loads of crappy F2P games, loads of s****** alpha testing "early access" games. Guys just do yourself a favour, sale your PC's and stop spending your money on bloatware. And maybe then the industry will stop taking the piss and actually start creating some decent products.

How am I gullible, exactly? I went into this purchase knowing it was going to be a complete and utter mess. In some ways it is, and in some it isn't.

That doesn't make me gullible, despite your loathing for every game that exists.

Yea, just airshock being as butthurt as ever, nothing here has anything to do with RL.... my freind group laughed at this alpha aswell, just people with common sense that wont throw money at developers, but people like airshock are so desperate for a knew game he gives up his money when the game is barely done... a business practice that does not favour anyway, cheapens the value of a product.. for what? to play a broken version 6-12 months before its actually finished?

paying to test games for companies now..... insane.... wasn't even cheap... £20 ...

"BU HB UH EARLY ACCESS LABEL SO ITS OK"

damn the milkage is unthinkable.

you really like to call people chuckles dont you? did you hear that on one of your saturday morning cartoons?

here again is another case of a company skirting their responsibilities. "LETS JUST MAKE THEM PAY TO BETA... THEN WE DONT HAVE TO PAY PLAYTESTERS TO DO IT FOR US!!!"...

all you are doing is playtesting their game.... and paying THEM to do it. the game isnt even in beta... it is in alpha.... and EARLY alpha. they didnt offer the game early for you... they offered it early FOR THEM.

you are clearly delusional and dont realize that the very same companies that you are worshiping are milking you for all you are worth. if you are fine with that.... then great... keep letting them take your money and offer you nothing in return.

Did it concern you when he whined about not being able to open food.... without a can opener..... yet cant find any. I imagine the game is soooooo fun right now dying of starvation due to craptastic alpha mechanics. so worth that £20 to test.

i watched a stream this morning for an hour, where the guy did not run into a single zombie. also, after entering a dozen or more buildings, didnt find a single loot drop.

sounds like a really high quality alpha you guys were conned into paying for.

and people honestly have the gaul to complain about battlefield 4.... *rolls eyes*

you think im miserably and I think your pathetic smuck with no sense of value or money. congrats.

I'm not even sure what you're talking about anymore. Did you take your meds today?

Why do you care what feedback I have for a certain game? Does that somehow change the fact that you're an idiot and a miserable ****? No.

Right, because, you know, I didn't choose to drop the money on this game. It was forcibly extracted from me. Moron.

Yeah, everyone on this forum.

I think you're miserable, get it right. In fact, I think it's time for you to go back to school. Writing doesn't seem to be your forte. I have a great sense of value. I saw value in buying a game before the price got jacked up later on down the road. If it doesn't, so what? I can always pick the game back up again when I'm tired of it. You are in no position to tell me what is/isn't valuable.

Oh man! I paid $30 to test a game. I'm broken. My life is ruined. Except the fact that I now own the game. Not only that, but the price will go up and I'll still own the game. So I got a discount, and I get to play a game and give my feedback on it. You and your friend over there are the only ones that seem to have a problem with that. Not really sure why.

Worshiping? No one is worshiping anybody. As I've already said, I did get something: I got the game. It's not going to magically disappear one day when it's out of early release. How fucking stupid can you possibly be?

I can tell you with certainty I will put way more hours into Dayz standalone than I ever will into BF4. Thats on top of the literally hundreds of hours I put into various iterations of the free mod. I'm happy to pay 30 dollars for that. If the streamer didn't find any zombies/loot, it just means he was in towns that had been picked clean already and was wasting his time (as were you).

I also haven't had a single crash or server disconnect in Dayz. Cant say the same for a certain other game that isn't in Alpha and a year away from actual release. I can promise you that when it actually launches, it will be 10x the game BF4 was when it officially launched.

M4 ammo is so damn rare. xD I'd love to get an M4, but it's nothing but a prop without an ammo to scare off the pyromaniacs. I have seen many people with M4s+bullets because they didn't hesitate to shoot me haha.

I like some of the complexity, but not all of it. I don't like the can opener stuff, nor do I like how advanced you have to go to use the medical things. If I was starving the can that held what would save me WOULD NOT stop me from getting at the stuff inside. I'd smash it open with a open, or use whatever other implement I had to get it open. I think the mod hit the perfect balance of realism and gameplay.

True! Yesterday's update now allows you to open cans with a screwdriver, damaged knife, or bayonet. Here's some of the new changes/additions:

New
  • Temporary status indicators for state of player in the inventory screen (thirsty, sickness, hunger, etc...)
  • force feed other players
  • Rain updated - it should better correspond with the rest of scene by adding the refraction effect
  • New variations for main menu (Unarmed) added
  • Greeting animations for all stances to be replaced (Now with left hand to avoid issues when holding items)
  • Magnum hand IK
  • Opening cans with sharp tools
  • Dot crosshair
  • Damaging knife, screwdriver and bayonet used for opening cans
  • Loot array (with respective type of meat) added to animals configs and new types of meat added to food configs (ANIMALS DISABLED)

You people are a joke who supports mediocrity, and as I stated in an earlier post - just sale your PC and get off the platform. If all you Early Access, F2P MMorpg cash shop and Indie title twits go to console then maybe the industry will stop catering to you idiots and start actually creating some decent games. At the moment though the PC is the perfect place for developers to do whatever they like, there's zero quality control on what's being put out there and the current PC gaming user base are moronic beyond words which can describe.

You make it sound like that's a bad thing, I think that's one no the reasons a lot of people are drawn to PC gaming, the amount of niche games available that you can't find on consoles.

Your right there is a lack of professional quality control but most people are mature enough to do the research, read user reviews, watch "Lets Plays," etc. and figure out if the game is something that you want to buy or invest in (in the case of early access).

Now I'm assuming based on your rant about how we're all idiots and we ruin your gaming you probably are one of those guys who doesn't do his research and ended up with a Steam library of games he hates and your obviously too immature to accept the responsibility so you come here and blame all of us for making games bad...

Don't worry though there is good news! A new batch of consoles just came out, maybe your mom will get you one for Christmas! Microsoft and Sony have great quality control, the never release bad games!

From what I've played (and it was a brief play session) the engine runs a lot smoother overall. The game is still pretty rough alpha, performance wise it's not to bad but gameplay wise I had trouble finding any weapons or zombies (looked through a town and only found a screw driver and one zombie) and everything just seemed kind of barren.

That being said I they have developed a really stable base to add in more gameplay elements as the progress, I'm excited to see it grow.

I am tempted.

I never really got on with the mod very well but I think that was mainly down to me. I really like the DayZ concept, I have WarZ but it's a bit too much p2w.

Anyone know what engine they're using for this?

Early access is good for all the naysayers out there. You get to mould the game plus it's £10 cheaper than it will be when released.

I just bought it and have to say its an alpha so it is kinda rough.

And to the person saying an hour without finding an item or zombie... yeah no, I ran into at least 3 within the first 15 minutes, and the second house I went into had an axe. Unfortunantly one problem I did find is the problems I had was managing items. The tab menu needs to be reworked. Outside of that the game itself looks really nice. Also I think they need to include like a brief guide for the controls. I had to spend my first life playing the game looking up controls.

because it is stupid to pay money for an unfinished product. im not sure why that is hard for YOU to understand. would you go to a car lot and buy a car without a stereo, AC, heating, cloth on the seats, seatbelts.... and be OK with the dealership saying "well it wasnt ready yet, we will get it to you when it is"?

i think not.

That's a ridiculous metaphor. Getting an unfinished car will KILL YOU...getting an unfinished game will not.

I understand you don't like the principle of paying for early access but if you can't even acknowledge that it's logical for fans of a game to want to buy it early at a CHEAPER price and get early access then your clearly out of touch with reality and arguing with you is futile.

@_SKatEDiRt_ said:

Buying early access now does give you access to the alpha/beta and the full game at release for a cheaper price.

oh what horseshit.... it is a perfectly accurate metaphor. the discussion was not whether or not something would get you killed. the discussion was if you should buy something that is half finished.

dont inject your own stupid reasoning into a discussion that has nothing to do with what you are saying.

I will give you my pros and cons list for it then (first impressions I just got the game roughly 12 hours ago):

Pros:
cool conceptReally realistic graphics if your system can handle it (thank you R9 290)
It is a playable experience
For the stage at development it is at, it is very good.

Cons:
Horrible learning curve, especially if you didn't play the mod
Some of the interacting is pretty obnoxious and annoying at times
Kinda goes into the first one, but very hard to get the right combonations of items to be able to use them
No vehicles, or player built things (don't know if it is expected as future content, I know vehicles are)
Runs like shit on pretty much everyones computer (optimized like a potato running minecraft).
Drops are not horrible, but they should make it a tad bit easier to find supplies.
Zombies and melee don't go well together, but I heard melee is going to get reworked (thankfully, I am guranteed to get hit at least twice with a melee weapon, once if i am really lucky).

For 30$ you get an opportunity to get to look at what it will be, but you really have to be careful not buying into it expecting a completely enjoyable experience, also it is a crap shoot with other people. Some people won't look twice before they kill you others will give you food, and supplies to get you started.

When this game is released it would no doubt in my mind be a purchase, but for now it is up to you. If it follows the same pattern as minecraft did (remember all those pre-release purchases), once it gets into alpha a bit further I think we will start seeing the blossoming of a real game. I am pretty excited for when zombie spawning will get turned up, and we get to really team up and survive. It truly will be a completely customizable experience.

So to me, why shouldn't I purchase it now? I would end up paying double when it releases, and I get to play the game early and see how it progresses. Yes some things may be broken or non-existent at this time, but that is not necessarily mean it is pointless. The game they have as of now, to me at least, is worth 30$.

Minecraft was horrible when it first was in this position (a little bit better, but it was written in java so can't really screw up too much), and had shit for content. (also was poorly optimized, I remember trying to understand how such a basic looking game could run so bad on everything).

So I can't honestly recommend one way or another for you, but if you like what he has done so far, go for it. If not wait till the streams you watch look good enough and than buy in.

I played it a bit more.

So far it's fun, not a ton of bugs though I did crash once. I found a melee weapon (a screw driver haha) and killed a couple of zombies. Loot seems hard to come by but I was mainly in coastal towns near the spawn areas so they may have been already looted (the doors were all open). The atmosphere is great there's all kinds of weird creaks and wind howling. You can also find a different clothing in with various states of decay and they give you different amounts of storage which I thought was cool (a found some cargo pants which of course gave me more pockets for items).

Performance wise the game does very good, it's much smoother then the mod ever was on my computer.

Like I said earlier I'm impressed with the engine and the core of the game, they just need to keep adding more content and clean it up.

I'll try to play a bit more and get farther along.

I played it for a little while. It's sparse. I didn't see a single zombie. What I did do was haul my ass to Cherno, find a huge wrench, get into sequential brawls with 6+ survivors, won all the fights and shit-talked them while they laid unconscious. Found myself a shovel and then whooped more ass. I didn't find a gun, but I found players with guns. The loot layout is a lot more sparse than how it was in the past - you can't just run into the same ol' Firehouse and expect to see tons of military grade weapons laying around. It looks like they added an epic city near Balota. I love you can enter almost all buildings.

How rough is it? I'd really like to purchase it but I've never been too keen on spending money towards unfinished products. I'd love to make an exception to that rule and poney up the dough since DayZ seems to be that kind of game that I could spend countless of hours on. I'm just worried that after I've bought the damn game it turns out to be an unplayable buggy mess that runs like shit and is infested by griefers that have nothing better to do but to shoot you without hesitation. Should I go for it or wait a year and pick it up when it's closer to release and possibly a more coherent and polished game?

its not worse then the mod.. probally even plays better. youre gonna get killed some, thats just part of the survivor aspect of DayZ. the best thing to do is just head north after you spawn in and stay away from the coast to avoid people, everybody always wants to head for Cherno or Elektro when alot of the good loot is up north.

Are these people so poor that they're afraid to throw a couple of dollars at a game?

They act like $30 is a life or death investment...

Get a job you fucking bums.

.... you've got to be all kinds of stupid to think the cost is the issue.

but then no surprises from this forum.

and to the guy comparing "Day Z" to "Battlefield 4" ... oh dear god.... where to start with that pathetic comparison....

good for you and the probably will only be 10k consistant players playing a limited 40 player zombie game in an open empty world for hours on end, how is that preference even remotely relevant to a comparison?

how is a standalone that is taken 2 years to even enter pre-alpha of a small ambitiousness game compare to a multiplatform game with production qualities far higher in the same time-frame having to work across 6 difference gaming system types, having to support 500k-1000-k at peak across multiple platforms in any way shape or form a fair comparison?

oh no those network issues.... we had a friggin what 2 week beta? compared to what day z's year long "payed alpha/beta" .... irrelevant as you are playing the product now. and you have payed for it.

Your right ofcourse airshock... "the game never goes away" no it doesn't, but peoples interest will, having payed access to no-where near finished products is the same as pre-ordering or playing the real thing. only... people lose patience, people want the complete thing. not a 2-3 year long project that is still nowhere near ready.

but yea, those targeting BF4 as some "ownage" when other than the initial server issues no fkin kickstarted or early access tripe has even come close.

So.... i want to hear more about the alpha, not see this stupid arguing between idiots who relentlessly hate and idiots who relentlessly defend. Its an alpha, people are going to pay for it, get over it. I'm thinking about buying this game, so can i please get some opinions on it without having to surf through all these internet tough guys flame wars?

Thank you, and ya i played the mod a lot and had a blast (hours seemed to disappear while playing lol) so i think I'll pick this up right now. $30 isn't too bad.

he is trying to do to much with to little. the dev team is small, but he is trying to put out a game that would take years to complete even with AAA funding and team size. he is WAY too ambitious for his own skill, and his teams skill. he has admitted that the majority of his team arent even actual game developers, but novices/part time workers.

honestly, he should have just stuck to modding. his ambition far outreaches his ability.

Unless you take a chance and try, how are you ever going to gain experience in how to make a game.

Maybe it'll be great, Maybe it won't. But atleast they tried and can look at it and say, " Well this and those things worked but those things didn't, Lets see what we can do to fix those things" Most of those that are considered "legends" within the gaming industry started with making games with only a handful of people and that was way before developer tools were available to download or purchase.

Besides if he wants to get into the industry then what will look better on his resumè?, A couple of mods or one/several games?

You people are a joke who supports mediocrity, and as I stated in an earlier post - just sale your PC and get off the platform. If all you Early Access, F2P MMorpg cash shop and Indie title twits go to console then maybe the industry will stop catering to you idiots and start actually creating some decent games. At the moment though the PC is the perfect place for developers to do whatever they like, there's zero quality control on what's being put out there and the current PC gaming user base are moronic beyond words which can describe.

So what/who are you supporting then, if not the PC developers, which includes indie devs? Other than that, all you have are multi-platform games, some of which are bad ports, QTE-infested, dumbed down games. But yeah, okay, you make so much sense with this comment. Hypocrite much? We're paying it forward so you can play Call of Duty 9 on your PC? Life must come easy for you! Dear GOSH! The graphics bro.. the graphics!

When did I state I purchase console ports? nice assumption, and a wrong assumption at that - clever. I can tell your a bright one.

You still do not mention which developers/games you support and buy. You're very reluctant to confess that as if you are guilty as charged. Old GOG games don't count. Those games have been out for ages and some of the licenses are either locked away by some publisher or sold to the wrong hands. So who do you support? Tell us.

I can tell you're not an educated fellow. You always attack the person, never the argument. Go back to college. When you're done, you'll at least be a smart sheep.

you really like to call people chuckles dont you? did you hear that on one of your saturday morning cartoons?

here again is another case of a company skirting their responsibilities.

Holy shit dude. Learn to read and write. You're killing everyone here with your lack of communication skills, no wonder people are having problems with you...

If cost isn't the issue, then the issue is exactly what I was talking about earlier : lack of instant gratification. The solution? Maturity. Grow up, get patience. Fans pay $30 for early access because we have patience. Smart people know good things don't happen all at once.

Also, when writing a post - pick something to write about, and write about it. Don't just shit out a bunch of thoughts onto the page - it's disgusting and gets nobody anywhere. If you think you're so fucking smart to be critical of this game's launch structure - then how would you have feasibly made it? Please, post something comprehensible and substantial.

So I finally bought the game and I had a bit of fun. It will be much better when they rework the melee weapons. As of right now you're almost assured to get hit by a zombie with how broken the melee is. Plus bandages are not as common as they were in the mod so you just slowly bleed to death. It will also be a better experience when we can turn off the awful mouse acceleration.

a couple of VERY well done mods have gotten people jobs working at Valve on some of the most prestigious games to ever release to the market.... im pretty sure he would have been better off making good mods, than making one seriously messed up full game.
