Have had a friggin blast so far, 72 hours lol. It is a ton of fun with friends/other people, it is a game you won't learn all at once, it will take a little while to learn the huge gigantic map, etc... I have died from many silly things and seen good amount of bugs, and some stuff does need to be fixed asap, but I am still having a friggin blast.
In alot better shape than I expected for week 2 of early alpha. Lots of work to do but this is a fantastic BASE to build onto. If anyone wants to join me, jacksepticeye, mohfever, takeiteazy and Elann then feel free to msg one of us.
For people who are annoyed by can openers its really not hard. You find a melee weapon and you can open it with it. So far I have used a can opener, fire axe, Knife and a hammer.
The hardest things for new players to learn is the huge map, take some item just to learn that. Also if you have not played the arma series much over the years, the simulation style shooting can be tough aswell. One hting I reccomend is not staying down south where alot of the crazy bandits are and where most of hte loot has been scavenged already down south. Head up north even just 5-10minutes, Alot of houses that have not been touched, etc..
One thing I love is how much better the blood bag aspect is, it was so silly in the mod how there was random blood bags around the map that where not in cold fridges,etc.. now you have to get blood from someone,etc.. much better imo. Now it makes it a little harder for me to be a medic, I cant just rush the hospital near cherno and be on my way, must better now how you actually have to work to get a blood infusion done.
Combat logging is the only big issue for me atm, I hope gets fixed asap, the other stuff I can live with while features and content are being added. I am also gettign alto better at melee against zombies, especially with a fireaxe. Also love the new hotbar, it is very useful, as is the run/launch move, doesn't take 5-10 seconds to get over things now lol. It is alot to learn and soak in DAYZ, but if you have some patience and don't mind learning, you can have a serious blast with friends on this game. Just realize it is not a game you will learn in 5 minutes like alot of games.
As I said above, lots to be improved, but I already have 72 hours logged in and have had a blast, cant wait to jump on again. Great base for rocket and the team to work on, as a DAYZ vet I was not expecting this good of a version this early on, looking forward to seeing the new features added and some of hte bugs/issues ironed out. Also one more thing, if you are unconcious you need to have a EPI PEN or Saline Bag from a friend/other person to use on you, I have used the Epi Pen once on a friend who was unconcious. Also it might take awhile to learn the thirsty/hunger aspect, you start at around 30% thirst, so first thing I like to do is find a water pump and just drink TONS till it says you are full. It is also key to get your hunger and thirst to FULL, after that you get to a healthy STATE which will then have your HP/blood regenerate! So no need for a blood bag if you can get you're health up to 100%. Yes there are some more bugs that annoy me, but I have never played an alpha game where there was not issues such as crashes, bugs, loss of inventory, server issues,etc.. But nothing that makes me want to stop playing or spazz out. Compared to some other alpha games I am currently in, it is pretty good shape and will only get better.
Anyways, there is my impressions, get some dudes together and go on an adventure and it can be a ton of fun, even early early on like it is now. I find it crazy how out of all the times I got this year myself and to review, half the games ive enjoyed the most are games not even finished! Such as Starbound, DayZ standalone, 7 days to die,etc.. We really are at a great time for PC gaming, where alot of these indie games are able to be made and the fans able to play as the game is being developed. Some of these AAA big companies need to take notes! Not perfect but damn fun and nicely along for this type of early stage alpha.
