IL-2 Sturmovik.....this is the ONLY game i couldn't quite figure out in the past ten years.....as such, it has a special place on my heart. would really like to get down and spend some serious time with it someday. :)

Agreed. There's so much to learn in that game. I'll also sit down and try to learn the game to its max once I get motivated to buy a joystick, rudder and pedal :P.
As for story, I'd say KOTOR is pretty much up there. I do want to play Planescepe Torment just to see what the hype is all about.
Oblivion. If by deep you mean loads of repetetive content.hongkingkong
QFFT - people who think Oblivion has a deep storylinehave clearlynever played any games with REAL storylines.
*resurrects thread*
the deepest storylines are as follows:
5. Deus Ex
4. The Witcher
3. Max Payne 2
2. Knights of the Old Republic II
1. Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 2 was left out, because although it had among the deepest most perfectly developed characters you could ask for, the storyline itself was more of a mousehunt than a puzzle
Story: Planescape: Torment. It has the best story I've ever seen on a game.
Gameplay: Ultima VII: The Black Gate. This RPG is the most deep I've ever played. You can even get a job on a local bakery and actually make breads using the ingredients individually, following the recipe and all.
Anachronox and the Jedi Knight series. The Max Payne games are very good in this department as well.
For medieval/magic:
1.Oblivion
2.Morrowind
3.The Witcher
For present day/urban:
1.Max Payne
2.Gta San Andreas
For SciFi/anything with space ships :D :
1.Mass Efect
2.Half Life Series
p.s. Halo series sux big time and i wouldnt include them in any top...they just suck(now for anyone who dosent agree with me,you can reply with a short argument where you can say why you think Halo has a great storyline and ill gladly come up with 10 why this game sux...or you can just flame me:P )
For fantasy/andevture:
1.The Logest Journey
2.Cyberia
