I want to know how many people agree.

It is true, with an insane amount of mods many of the issues

this game hascan be fixed, but consider the base content, such as a limited

amount of voicesand characters. It was in the hands of developers

to make fascinating quests and atmosphere. I enjoyed the dark brotherhood

arc when i played many years ago and some of the shrines, but thats about it.

I could see this game get a 7 at best, anything above does not fit.

Back up your opinions with arguments.

Nope, I love the game. I even greatly prefer it to Morrowind which I thought was extremely static and dead. Oblivion isn't without its flaws (voice acting, insignificant impact on the gameworld, poor storytelling), but I loved the gameworld and there are some really interesting quests. I definitely prefer the more realistic and consistent approach to the gameworld in comparison to Morrowind. Also, woods >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> swamps.

This was one of the first RPG games I ever played for the xbox 360 and I loved it for its high replay value. For instance, in one playthrough you could be the good hero of cyrodill or in another you could be the evil speaker of the Dark Brotherhood or the powerful arch-mage or something of the sort, sometimes I would even make my own stuff up, wich was much esayer when I bought the pc version because of all th mods and the console commands.

Though it does have its flaws like the poor voice acting UpInFlames mentioned, but I think the game it self outways the flaws.

I don't like how you can be the 'grandmaster' of everything. Its ridiculous.

Too many repeated npc's. The anooying part is when you talk to them only to

see no significant choices but 'rumor/advice'. I dislike the game engine on the whole,

reason why fallout 3 was even more of a failure for me.

not "pff".

Most definitely.

Like I've said before, unless they make some DRASTIC changes in TES5, I won't be buying it.

Adding to the list of reasons combat, which is rather primitive, they could

have at least implemented hit modifiers so that you would lose fatigue depending

on where you were struck etc. I have yet to see a game where someone has

a dozen of arrows in him and keeps on fighting like nothing happened..seriously?

It's just another choice and I don't see anything inherently wrong with it. On my first playthrough I was a good Warrior. I developed warrior-related skills and chose to do quests that reflected my character like saving the world in the main quest. I ignored magic, stealth, the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. On my second playthrough I was a female evil elf Mage and I refused to do the main quest and chose to do quests that benefited me - Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood. I developed magic-related skills.

It's not the game's fault that players abuse the system and do EVERYTHING offered to them and then complain about it. The option is there. No one's forcing you to use it if you don't want to. If you DO use it, that means you WANT to use it so don't complain about it.

There's lots of games that give you that kind freedom...it's not a flaw...if it doesn't appeal to you fine but don't pretend someone else is just ignoring it. What's true for you isn't true for someone else...especially with something like that.

My personal opinion of Oblivion is it's a good RPG that has a lot of positive aspects to it. I think Morrowind was better though and I was slightly dissapointed with Oblivion overall...but only because I had such high expectations. To me it's still a good game that has a lot to offer.

Why i voted Definitely

Auto leveling creatures

Game economics(trading)

Inventory sistem

Fast travel

Main Quest

Small things can ruin a game for some. At least it doesn't have cover system or regenerating health. :P

incoherent is the best word it can sum it up, uninspired sometimes and add tot he factthat the environments/dungeons were repetitive.

the inspiration for the game comes from mods.. Unique Landscapes + Elswyr adds too much win for its open world to be somewhat enjoyed.

The vanilla version isn't that good imo, but I still enjoyed it. It's much better with mods though.

While the game certainly has many flaws and shortcomings I haven't found one that does it better. Many of them can be quite easily fixed with mods as well. Though the engine really sucks.

What a fallacy...lol.

"anybody who disagrees with me must not know anything"

Been gaming for over 20 years dude...I've played almost every RPG from Pool of Radiance (SSI) and beyond. I've played the greats, the bad ones, the JRPG's (which I don't like anymore), the hybrids, and everything in between.

What's your "gaming credentials" that gives you such authority to claim anybody who disagrees with you does so out of ignorance?

Are you a game designer? No? Then you are just like everyone else...a gamer who has preferrences.

Anyways, to your question of "do most people agree" you didn't need to make a poll. There's 35,000+ player reviews on this site alone...head over to the review page for Oblivion to see if you are in the majority/minority lol.

Pros of Oblivion AI - people didn't just walk around like zombies Graphics - I think this is self explanitory Combat - The combat isn't great but at least it's better than Morrowind's Side Stories - having stories for the factions was a good idea especially with such a weak main story and that's all I can think of Cons of Oblivion Voice Acting - with probably near 1000 NPCs, you would think they would have hired more than 13 voice actors. Less of Everything - Less skills, spells, factions, weapons, items, armor Main Story - To have a main story this weak is a major flaw in an RPG like this. Environment - Oblivion's environtment is created by the engine, simply randomizing the placement of rocks, trees and things like that. even the caves/ruins system is a handfull of premade dungeons used over and over again with random thing put in it. Morrowind's hand made environment feels much more intricate. Inventory - was designed to be controller friendly Creature/equipment leveling - really takes away the realism of the game. When starting everyone is wearing steel armor but on higher levels all of a sudden people are wearing glass and daedric. This is like if you got a raise in your job and all of a sudden everyone in the world started wearing 3 piece suits. Also the Arena can be beat at level one because you only fight characters at your level. once again, makes no sense. [QUOTE="UpInFlames"]

It's not the game's fault that players abuse the system and do EVERYTHING offered to them and then complain about it. The option is there. No one's forcing you to use it if you don't want to. If you DO use it, that means you WANT to use it so don't complain about it.

I think you're missing the point behind what he's trying to say. The problem is he can do something. If I was in an Electrician union and you're not an electrician, but I gave you a bunch of jobs you were able to do and I compensated you for them...why would you turn them down? because you're not an electrician? Then after you did those mundane jobs that anyone could do would it be natural that I would make you head of the union without any knowledge of what an electrician does? No That is the problem with the factions. Plus the way the characters work to begin with makes most characters jack of all trades to begin with. my Assassin's Blade skill was maxed out just like any other fighter because of constant use. The armor skill was also maxed out because of combat, and thieves have scrolls at their disposal so they can also cast magic. Is it that far fetched that my assassin became head of the mage's guild because they offered rewards even though the only spells he used came off a scroll?

Oh and the creatures in Morrowind were a hell of a lot more creative than Oblivion's. I don't see how one part of the landscape has totally original creatures and then the next piece of land has every creature you find in basic mythology/Tolkien books.

The problem with Oblivion is that it was made for consoles. Consoles and PC games are like oil and water, we want complexity; consoles can't deliver, we have tons of keys to map and use; consoles have 8ish... Oblivion was ruined by the console. Even the console users contributed to the problems with their "complaints" about how hard Morrowind was....

Freakin' consoles

In my head. If you can't understand other people have different preferences that's your problem, not mine. It's a sign of immaturity really. Regardless, for me Oblivion wasn't the best RPG and I liked Morrowind a lot more. I guess I just don't need to pretend the people who disagree with me are ignorant. My thoughts and opinions can stand on their own...I don't need that kind of self serving non-sense to make myself feel better.

depend3ncy

No, that's what you are doing...especially with your claiming that people who don't agree are ignorant. That's an attempt to make your opinion fact for others...they just don't realize it lol.

Yes, back on topic.

Reasons I like Oblivion:

-Combat was good

-Huge world to explore with lots of cool secrets (like that arena championship from the gods)

-Nice variety of weapons, spells, and items -Some really great side quests

-Closing down the demon gates -Parts of the story were implemented very well (like when you get to that town on fire and must liberate it)

-Nice crafting component

-Houses

-Arena

-Design of the cities were great, especially the main one

- Graphics of course at the time were breathtaking

Things I didn't like:

-Scaling had to much effect on the world. I don't mind scaling, but in Oblivion I thought they went a bit overboard

-Main story wasn't that great, though I don't really care about stories in games anyways

-Some areas of the world were recycled (like world dungeons)

-Stiff animations and dialog for a lot of NPC's

A point about the NPC's I want to expand on is while the AI did a decent job, I think I really prefer the way Gothic/Risen handles it. While it may be scripted, the world just feels more alive when NPC's are doing the things you'd expect them to. Blacksmiths hammering on their anvils, farmers in the field, ect. I think the developers tried to achieve something and didn't quite get it right...and in the end the game suffered a bit for it.

Enough with the paranoia, but good explanation of why you like

the game. The areas that appeal to you i can not agree upon. Combat

never felt satisfying, advancement superficial, npcs lifeless. I did

like the landscape and creature models, but humans are done poorly.

I consider Risen/Gothic 2 much better games.

Sorry man, I checked your profile and you gave Baldur's Gate a 1... I don't like it, but it doesn't deserve a 1. I've just lost my respect in you

Good for you?

Yes, very good for me. Bad for you.

I only had a couple of issues with it. Mailnly the HORRIBLE leveling system. I should not be able to hold down my spell-casting Key and occasionally press the "Rest" key and be able to fully level up my magic in a matter of hours. It should require some form of effort.
