Does anyone think that Half-Life 2 is NOT the best game on PC?

I've gone though hundreds of Top 100's,Top 10 etc and have ALWAYS seen Half-Life 2 first and then about 2-3 pages about it's greatness if i had a choice it would be something like Bioshock,WC3,SC3,Medieval 2,Trackmania or STALKER.So whats your number 1 and do you think Half-Life 2 is the best or not?

To me at least when you put Half-Life 2 and both Episodes together there is probably no greater FPS.

It's a great game, but it's lacking in gunplay, AI and replay value. The first is extremely important for an FPS, the second creates an even greater sense of craziness in gunfights and the third is a huge bonus for any Singleplayer-based game, period.

Half Life 2 isn't even in my top 10.

My #1 is System Shock 2.

Nop, HL doesn't make it to my top 10. Top 25 maybe...

I don't have any type of scale to measure which game is the best, but if you ask me the Half Life games are definitely not the best. Don't get all worked up, it's just my opinion.Kuyt19

I'd defiantly put System Shock 2 above Halflife 2 and Bioshock.

I agree. I think it's an above average shooter at best nothing more. I enjoyed it more than the original, but that's not saying much because I hardly liked the original at all. Then again, I didn't have the chance to play it during the time it was considered groundbreaking.

It's just that HL2 featured the over-hyped and almost useless Gravity-Gun. Which was also featured six years earlier in Trespasser, but that game failed because of the bugs.

Edit: I forgot Max Payne 2. Now that was impressive for 2003!

Not at all. As a matter of fact if I did my top 20 games of all time HL2 wouldn't even be on there.

Fallout 2, Deus Ex, Grim Fandango, Company of Heroes, and the original Half Life are more deserving of that title.

Don't know about system shock being number one but I agree about half-life 2 not being in the top ten. A linear fps with aliens, how original.

of course its not the best game on PC.

deus ex 1 is the best game on PC ever. that is an undisputable fact.....ok its an opinion :P. but no game outshines it imho.

HL2 is an excellent game mind. im not a big FPS fan really but i actually finished HL2 and enjoyed it. thats saying something.

Half-Life 2 isn't the best....BUT its 2 episodes are! Push the 2 episodes into one game and they are better than anything this decade IMO. Unfortunately long frickin load times are the one flaw in these games.

All-Time? DOOM 2 is still the best or at least tied to the double-episode punch.

Are you nuts? Half-life 2 is ok but the original is better because it wasn't overhyped and it is still amazing to this day. However my favorite game is Doom 2. Nothing comes close.Whiteblade999

The original was a great game, but it has dated very poorly. I can't play it again.

Episode Two is a huge soap-opera, with a very obvious plot and a catastrophic section through the antlion tunnels. There are some highlights - like the first Advisor encounter and the last battle - but it's still an average game IMO. Still better than Ep One though.

Haha not even close to fact!!!! Episode 1 was excellent.

However, it lost points for being major short, that was the major reason it was knocked down, thats all. Episode 1 was better than Half-life2 moment for moment. Fact. ...and thank God we didn't have those lengthy vehicle rides, instead we got 3 or 4 major memorable encounters better than anything in HL2, not to mention much better AI and puzzles. Tight game albeit short. Fact.

Episode 2 was superb, no need to even go there. Fact.

Spending half of the game in the bleak Citadel with the overpowered Gravity-Gun that atracted criticism two years earlier sure was fun.

The best thing about the episodes was the developer commentary.

I had a blast with it....speaking of which, by the time you had the bigtime "waiting for the elevator" fight with Zombies and "Zombines" or whatever Allyx called them, you had the Shotgun, Pulse Rifle and others.

Only flaws in Episode 1 were its short length and load times, but the latter is typical of Valve.
