Fallout 3/ stalker call of pripyat..which has the best immersive atmosphere?

Can only afford one of these two games right now, which would you guys say has the best moody atmosphere? Also what makes it stand out more from the other? I know they are two pretty different games but any info would be appreciated

If atmosphere wise : Stalker games are best from what i ever played.

Fallout 3 is more of an RPG than shooter (combat is really bad outside VATS) where Stalker is more FPS with inventory and upgrade system. Its what you like more : long fights with in nice sci-fi/fantasy world or really challenging tactical fights in one of the most atmospheric worlds ive seen in game.

Gunfight is more fun in Stalker without contest.

I would recommend Stalker . I always get bored of fallout 3 in ~15-17 hours (tryed to play it 3 times , never finished) , where stalker keeps me hooked up untill the end.

Nothing touches the Stalker games in terms of atmosphere.

If you base on atmosphere it is STALKER hands down, partly because of all the things you need doing all the time (Maintining weapons, eat, sleep, make sure you have the right equipment). It is a more random world, so there is far less to expect, and mroe to jsut accept.

It is darker way more moody, often drab and chilly. Tense aswell. it is a dark world, where passion and humanity is a luxery, you often feel alone, valnurable, and like you are just a single lifeform in a zone that generally does not care about life, life is cheap afterall, it only cost a bullet ;)

That said FO3 is not bad, but it is far from moody, it is often borderline slaptick, and generally tongue in cheek, it lacks the decayed beauty of STALKER, and has this almost artifical feel to it. But it is fun, there is alot to explore, and alot to find. If you spring for FO3 be sure to buy the GOTY edition, because it has far more content, and the GOTY edition will last you a really really long time.

FO3 is more player friendly aswell, where STALKER can be quite unforgiving, you can carry alot, ammo is weightless, and unless you play with the diffeculty slider on max, ig almsot have to try to die, to suceed at it.

Weapons and gunplay are less interresting in this game, but it israrely a negative as such, it oddly fits the general feel of FO3, nearly cartoony at times.

It is overall a very good exploring game, with alot of fun mechanics thrown in, that will last most people atleast 100 hours (if it is the GOTY edition) where as STALKER CoP will likely last you 20-30 hours on the average difficulty with exploring buying guns, and somewhat hectic gunfights.

I think stalker definitly makes you feel like y our there, but for an apocolyptic wasteland, i think it needs more garbage and random things kinda like F3 did. If your looking for a good long playing session go for F3. If your just looking for something cheap and short fun, try Stalker.

Stalker has best atmosphere overall for sure, SoC has the best of the 3.

Fallout3 is still very good but I felt everything looked too samey; probably due to the very limited color pallette used.

i wouldnt say this, it just would not be accurate. cause there are games that can come very close, and even surpass.

but i will say this, Stalker (only one i played was SOC) did have an amazing atmosphere, very deep and sometimes spooky (i absolutely loved it) waiting till i upgrade GPU before i get the other 2 stalker games.

but i think there have been a few better than it, and i think there will be more to come that will be as well.

Why wait? You've got two 8800GTs. That'll run Call of Pripyat just fine. Hell, I'm running it on an 8400GS with a pretty solid framerate.

I played both games and finished them. I would say Stalker Call of Pripyat has the best atmosphere and best lightning effects and graphics, especially if your PC is capable at maxed setting.

i dont understand how people can compare stalker crap (srry to say that but that game is just pure crap ... ) vs fallout , wich makes excelent postapocalyptic atmosphere ... you guys talk total **** and yes i have played all stalker games and fallout 3 , spend more than 100 hours in that game , explored almost everything and found that ultimate experience comparing stalker vs fallout is like saying sims 3 is ultimate gamers game and its a freakin Esport ...

The atmosphere in STALKER games crushes the one in Fallout 3 in so many ways it's not even funny.

It's like comparing a NFS game to Big Rigs.

Yes, I also enjoyed exploring the copy and paste world of Fallout 3. "This office building looks strangely familiar. No matter, it's full of Nuka Cola instead of the other one that was full of mole rats!"

My eyes must have failed on me, I can swear there's a guy in this thread praising Fallout 3's production values and saying it's not clunky.

+ various events in stalker world ( loved that storm thing , when you have to hide , cant remember the name of it :( )
- outdated graphics
- bad animations
- no voiced "chats"/voice overs ( i mean cmon , its like playing early 90's game where you have to read everything )
- clunkyness and some noticable bugs
- lack of music sound track
- bad performance ( i dont know if it counts to atmosphere but it definetly ruined a lot of my game till i figure it out how to fix that quad core problem )

Look at System Wars threads if you do not believe me. STALKER and ArmA 2 are always mentioned in graphic threads, just behind Crysis and Shattered Horizon.

Graphic-wise Fallout 3 is not even as high as the knee of STALKER games.

It's a very artistic game and all, but does anybody here think this game has better graphics than STALKER? Heck, it got a 9.5...if we were to use the score like you do the game has some of the best graphics on the planet!
