 I cant believe how many people actually think F.e.a.r. looks better then F.e.a.r. 2....
It doesnt, at all. Play F.e.a.r. 2 then play F.e.a.r. and youll know what I mean. F.e.a.r. looks SO out of date.
Ok.. Serioulsy guys it is painfully odvious how much better looking FEAR 2 is to FEAR.. FEAR is around 4 to 5 years old.. Seriously give it a rest.. If you are this blind that FEAR is a better looking game than the second one, you need glasses.. Or a computer upgrade.sSubZerOo
I have played the first game and I have played the demo, the specs in my sig should tell you that I'm maxing the demo with 4X AA and 16x AF.
I am telling you right now that I prefer the graphics in the first FEAR. Prefer as in preference, because I just don't like the way FEAR 2 looks and sounds. You are wrong. I cant believe how many people actually think F.e.a.r. looks better then F.e.a.r. 2....

Actually I think FEAR2 looks a lot better, including the hud.pinneyapple
In the first FEAR the HUD was at the bottom of the screen out the way, this one is constantly on top of everything interrupting your immersion with pointless graphics that contribute nothing to the information on display.
How is it better?

the new HUD is supposed to resemple an on screen display of a futuristic face shield maybe a SWAT team member would wear. That just seems to make sense. IMO, this ADDS to the emersion factor to the game.

I like the hud, reminds me of Metroid Prime.[QUOTE="pinneyapple"]Actually I think FEAR2 looks a lot better, including the hud.AnnoyedDragon

I haven't played the demo yet, but from the screens it visually looks a lot better imo. FEAR's hud was just flat and felt like it was tacked on, it didn't exactly add to the immersion. FEAR2's hud actually looks like it should be there, like you're really wearing a helmet with a display.
Interesting.. I have yet to play FEAR 2, but the lighting and shadows don't seem as sharp or as detailed. They were amazingly well-done in FEAR.

Maybe to you but it is irritating me, it's useless visual garbage taking up space on my screen; just like that that ugly static you cannot turn off.
This game is full of annoying little things you cannot do anything about, like being forced into a menu you can only navigate via keyboard when you pick up information; or items showing through the walls so the casuals can find dropped equipment.

im going to install this when i get home from work and i'll come back to comment. the "film grain" your talking about was in Mass Effect too, but you could turn it off. you probably will be able to turn it off in the final game too, then all the lights and shadows will look sharper. and the "easy to spot" items kinda sucks haha.most HUD's in FPS games just seem to float around as if only for the player to see. this one seems to be part of the antagonist instead of part of the players monitor. Crysis had something like this but it was still kinda just floating there.prlyknitswtr
I think that should be protagonist

hmm funny, just like Republic Commando (great game btw^^) it adds immersion for me. It feels more like FPS not like "some guy sitting behind the eyes of the protagonist who also gets to see all the vital information for some reason"
but I do understand that some people might not like it^^
Looks the same lol. Monolith knows everyone loves a shade of brown!!biggest_loser
Monolith has made 2 games with that color-pallete... So I think the award for using those colors the most goes to epic :)
I'm gonna go with the first fear
i thought the fear 2 demo was fun, but i don't think i'll be spending money on the full version

You just argued how you prefer FEAR's graphics over FEAR 2's, and now you are arguing with someone about their HUD preference? I think FEAR 2 has better graphics and FAR more detail than the first iteration. To me the HUD just blends in, I don't see it when I'm playing unless I want to see it (check health and ammo) so that is a non-issue. But that is just my opinion.i just played some of the demo and i was blown away. it was far more scary than the first and, at least for me, ran very very smooth with everything turned up max. the motion blur adds a nice effect and FINALLY the "iron sights" zooming. i always thought FEAR and Farcry lacked that back in 04. I couldnt make it thru the haunted school, i kept getting turned around so i shut it off. the only thing i DIDNT like was some of the blood spalts and how when the enemies die, they take a LONG time to fall to the floor. other than that, everything with Alma was a lot better than the first. anyone else thing that the color palette looks kind of like Shogo? it was an FPS a while back. kind reminded me of that game.prlyknitswtr
em farcry 1 has iron sights, you have to hold the right mouse button

And if we look at how many enjoy/love/worship the UT series for example we will see how "good" brown is used ;) and UT has so much more than gray, black and brown.I just played the demo, and I felt let down abit, the HUD i can live with, but the Film grain i just can not, hopefully be able to turn it off in the final version. I still enjoyed it, but until i know the film grain can be turned off, and some Recoil is added, i shall not be paying full price for it!
In terms of special effects FEAR2>>> FEAR. But as for texture quality, lighting, shadows and modelling. It's hard to tell with all that **** film grain. What are they trying to hide. And if they're not trying to hide anything then just get rid of it. It's looks crap.ShimmerManAt first I thought something was wrong...Then I found out it was supposed to look like that. :| I guess they were trying to go with an "old movie" felling to it. It looks ok, but I would much rather the option to turn it off. I rather that crisp and clear look.
The film grain look is just a smoke and mirrors trick used to increase performance so that the system doesn't have to render the full quality of textures. Without it, I doubt the consoles could handle these graphics without suffering a framerate hit.
Project Origin in no way looks bad. But when I compare it to the original FEAR on PC with all graphics maxed, I can't honestly say that Project Origin looks better. Most noticeable is the dynamic lighting. FEAR 1 definately has better, more realistic lighting, and volumetric smoke, and well just about everything else. In FEAR 1, I feel more immersed in a realistic setting. In PO,I feel a little less immersed in a less realistic setting. I wouldn't call it quite cartooney, but it definately has a more comic book style look, for lack of a better way to describe. I'm not saying it looks bad at all. I'm just saying in terms of realistic graphics, FEAR 1 overall looks better, despite it being a much older game.
