Games that would make good movies

What games do you guys think would make good movie?

I think Half Life 2 would make a great movie. I heard a while back that 20th century fox bought the rights to make a Half Life movie. If they did make one, maybe they should get the guy that plays House to be Gordon lol. I remember reading that the movie Children of Men was similar to Half Life 2. I watched it and it kinda was in some ways. Children of Men is an Excellent movie btw.

Mass Effect has the epic story that would suit a lengthy science fiction movie/series of movies, in my opinion. The only trouble is that some of the major story events go with what the player decides. Hell, even Shepard's genre is player-decided. So that would pose a problem. But still, the story would be good.

I don't think any HL movie will ever be made, what makes that game so immersive is that the player IS Gordon Freeman. I hope they don't at least. I also don't think Children of Men is anything like HL....I really don't understand the parallel.

I think Gears of War would be a good movie, but I don't think I'd end up liking it unless they had the voice actors be the actors for the characters, unless they could find someone who sounded like em. I friggin love the dialogue in that game.

Well, the only similarities with Half Life 2 and Children of Men is that babies can't be born. It's nothing like Half Life 2 at all, except the not being of any kids that is. And some of the checkpoints that the characters go through in CoM, remind me of the Half Life 2 begining. I just remember on yahoo news (I think) they were comparing games to their movie like counterparts and Half Life 2's counterpart was Children of Men.

They both are dystopian, sci-fi, and are immersive. The scenery isn't all too different either.

Crysis. It has an amazing storyline I loved the story compared to most FPS games crysis's is my favourite.

Halo's story would be weird as it would all be fighting but i did like the story but thats me.

I don't see how starcraft, diablo, or any rts game (i know diablo isn't a rts btw). would make a good movie.

Concur, why oh why did they have to replace the Colonial Marines with arctic explorers in AvP.

Remember its not about how good the game is to make a good movie. The movie would need to be made so it doesnt suck.

For studios willing to go to games to make movies from them. I think it would be better for them to make short television series. That way they already got the personality of the characters, the storyline arc and the introduction is over with. When the 2 hour movie comes out it goes right to the action.

In the cutscenes in World in Conflict, with a little more drama added, I could see that being made into a Pearl Harbor like war movie.

I could also see GTA San Andreas becoming a quite good action thriller. The characters and the storyline, with CJ trying to find and get back his brother from a corrupt policeforce, is definitely something worthy of the silverscreen. But I am not sure it would be possible to include the GTA humor without making it feel cheesy..

Why should anyone agree to be a passive observer by paying to see a movie based on the story in a game when they can go home and be an active participant? That seems like a waste of time and money to me.

The idea for a movie about the fall of Rapture was a better idea. To me the best video game movies will be the ones that try to expand on the story and the world the game creates.

Someone said S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Stalker is actually based on a movie called Stalker, but it is in German, so maybe a new english version would be better.

I don't think so somehow. All the characters in that game are intentional cliches really and despite the hype I don't think that game has a particularly coherent or satisfying story.

For my choices the answer is easy: Grim Fandango: I have played the game a lot of times, I really like the comedy and the story. The puzzles were great the first few times, but puzzles where you know the answer are not that fun anymore. I would love to be able to just press play and see what I like about the game as a movie. Though I would prefer it not to have the exact same parts as the game, it could e.g. take place between the first and second year (the time where he builds his casino)ADG_

They could give them all the material they want but this is the movie business my friend - things work a lot different in terms of scripts between films and games. There was talk that they won't actually have Master Chief as the main character because you can't see his face and there is no emotional response there. So they are going to have to write a script around a secondary character!

Maybe about a new cadet that joined the army or stuff like that , but boy thank god its not gona happen.
