------ Hi people!!! I'm back atlast! There are so many things I need to do in school, even now. I'm just here right now to check the thread. I received a message wherein someone asked for help but I am really busy these days. So, I posted his/her request in order for everyone here to be able to read it and somehow be incharged in helping because I don't have much time. Here it is:

"Hi genemm,

I think your list is great, it has helped me out a lot.

Would you please add the GeForce 9500GS 512 MB? I would appreciate knowing where it fits in the list. I want to make sure it will handle Dragon Age: Origins. It handles Prototype really well.

Many thanks, man.

Varus"

------ Please help one another to keep this thread lively, educational and entertaining!!! I'm going off now... 8)

The GTS 250 is essentially a 9800GTX+, there are only a few minor differences, but the performance is very similar. The GTS 250 does perform a hair better though.

Hey I'm not real familiar with the graphics card thing but a while back I bought #60 the Geforce 9400 GT and I have a question.

So I want to run most of my games on the highest quality or very close, and right now medium is all it can provide. HOWEVER, I only have 2GB RAM. If I were to upgrade my RAM to say 6GB would I get close to the highest performance or would I be better off buying a brand new one for my computer. It would be a lot cheaper to buy more RAM but I do want performance and if RAM isn't going to provide me with it then... I'll buy a new one. One last thing, I can run all of my games in the highest quality but I get a decent amount of lag which I have found kills my experience. So everything looks fantastic it just runs slower.

Now I may upgrade in the future when I have more money but for now I'm looking for the most effecient cheap method. I just want good graphics for a good price.

Whenever asking questions about performance, can you list your specs before hand so we can give you advice? Generally adding a bunch more RAM won't increase performance on a significant level. The best thing is to get a new video card in your case probably, but I don't know your processor, motherboard, or PSU specs so I don't have if that is the right thing for you do.

4 GB of Ram is the standard, but you only really need 3 GB if you are using Vista and even then the performance difference isn't stunning. The primary issue in your performance is your video card. Upgrading that to something a little more beefy will get you more performance. Your CPU is somewhat lacking, but should be able to keep up a little bit for now.

I have the chance to swap my 9800GT 1GB + £20 for a ATI 4870 512MB do you think I should go for it? :? I've heard that the ATI drivers can be unreliable and I do like PhysX effects :) would there be that much of an improvement or is it best to just wait for the DX11 cards?

Hello, I did some research and checked up on this thread about some cards and finally have gotten a Sapphire HD4870 2gb DDR5 Vapor-X, my previous card was a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512mb, I changed it because of overheating and Fps issues on some resolutions. I have 2 questions : 1- Did I make the right choice of picking up the ATi card ? 2- Is the Vapor-X system good enough to keep the card from overheating after long periods(6hours of gaming), and will a 720 watts power suply be enough to power it up. ? Thank you for reading :) .

1. The 4870 isn't leagues ahead of the 9800GTX+, I would have waited on the upgrade on the next series like the 5850. 2. A cooler is a cooler, it probably won't change much of a difference. The reason why a card overheats after hours of play has little to do with the card, but with the case that it is in. If there is no air circulation the case, any card will warm up. And 720 watts is well enough to power it.

Thank you for the reply Luminouslight, I installed the card and ran it for almost 6 hours now, spent some time on CoD4 and Oblivion and I'm pleased with the performance so far, I would have gotten a Nvidia GTX 285 if it wasn't for their expensive price tags where I live.. That and for the fact that I got the ATi new for ~140 us dollars which I believe is a good deal from a friend of mine . Next thing on my list is going to be the screen, what I got is HP w2207h, its a bit annoying because it is reflective and I'm looking for a larger screen , any advise on a good screen, thanks again .

Wait for GT300, 4870 isn't much of an upgrade over that card as I personally got 4890 over it and didn't see a light years increase.

Ive never actually owned an nvidia card, i've gone with ATI since rage3d and never experienced unreliable drivers. I personally just bought a 4870 2gb and love it. i can play my entire library of games (which includes NFS shift and farcry 2) at maxed settings with my e6600 at stock. However, I have experienced some difficulties with physx effects with shift. But shift is just a poorly programmed pos game anyways.
