Hi I have a question about what video card to upgrade toso I can play some of the latest games on a better setting. Let me first state my computer spec.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache

Rams: G.SKILL 4GB (PC8500)

Video card: GeForce 7600GS 256MB

Power Supply: Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W

Hard Drives: 4 totals ( from 500 gigs to 1.5 Tb)

Drives: 1 Dvd reader and 1 Dvd burner

I'm running Vista 32 bit.

The thing that worry me the most when it comes to upgrade Video card is the heat! I use to have a Ati 9800 Pro on my old computer and I burn out 2 of them. I wonder, what can I do to prevent the samething happened again.. Thanks ahead for any advice!

Not quite, you can read some reviews but the 5870 goes toe to toe with the GTX 295.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643&p=16

And the GTX 285 does not beat the 4870 x2.

the 295 beats the 5870 by 12+ on every benchmark I seen expect for stalker but I always thought the battle was the 4870x2 vs the 280 with the 4870x2 winning

this is mainly because the 5870 is a single core gpu whereas the 295 is a dual. the 5870 howevr is more energy efficient OC's better, is dx11 compliant, and is cheaper.. idk it sells itself.

not true id say the top 40 is where you should be for modern gaming (minimum (cutting it real fine)top 42) this ensure minimum high quality on average resolutions

Dang, I remember back long ago in the dawn of time! When getting a graphics card give you performance increases in multiple folds!!! not +20fps bs nowadays. T.T Long live Geforce Ti500, I hardly knew your brand.. was it asus or pny I never figured it out but it sure smoked mx200 and ati rage integrated bs.

Your PC should be capable of playing latest games on medium or w/e. Tho, your GFX card is a huge bottleneck to the rest of your PC. Try and find a cheap 8800GTS 640MB or something like that, it should run fine on your PSU.

Maybe you got 42fps on Enthusiast settings with 640x480 :P

PS: Maybe you made a spelling mistake, if you got a 5870 then it's okay.

glad to see ATI is finally makinng some decent stuff. I have an 8800 gt and can still run today's games so I won't change it for a while and maybe I'll get a radeon next. I can run crysis on very high with 1024X800 res so it's decent.

The 4570 is a mobile GPU, this list just covers desktop GPUS. To get the best comparison you can go to here.

There wouldn't be any particular point because the 1 GB version of the 8600gt performs the same has the 256 MB version

Performance wise they are just about the same. If they were the same price though, I would go for Nvidia because of CUDA and PhysX.

While this is not the appropriate place to post, I wouldn't. While the 4890 is better, it's like upgrading from a 4850. The performance increase would not justify the cost (unless you got it for free, then by all means do).

You would of been paying more anyways unless you bought the 5750 or 5770 which the 4890 performs better than both. You still made a good buy;)

Well if I purchased the HD 4890 my friend would buy my GTS 250 for €70 and I use that money for the HD 4890.

Such petty specs don't really determine the superiority of a card. The 2900xt implemented 512-bit memory interface while all other rocking cards implemented 256-bit (and still to this day) and blew that card out of the water. Total performance is what counts, not useless little specs.

The only differnce is memory speed which helps in some games (prolly why ATI beats competing Nvidia cards in some games)

Say memory on an ATI card has 900mhz of DDR5 memory. You multiply 900mhz by 4 and the actual memory speed is 3600mhz
