Hmmm GTX 260 FTW Edition? I take it it's factory overclocked? Anyway, over a standard GTX 260 the HD 4870 is quite a bit faster. Take a look at Anandtech's review.

Here indicates that the GTX260 FTW is an overclocked version.

Next time read the review.

I love how benchmarks can prove any fanboy right as long as you just look at the charts and ignore the actual review.

GTX260 is faster than the HD4870 in some games, but the HD4870 win in most of them. We'll see what the GTX260+ will do.

lol for the guy who ''rofl''ed , look on the threads what problems the owners have with the 4870 ! heat problems stupid drivers power consumption , everyone (pro websites) says that the nVIdia has sharper images , and the other reviews didnt review the actual oc'd gtx (which is 25$ more than the stock one)

lol heat problem can be solved by a simple software tweak(I think there is a fix for that already), AMD/ATI has great driver support, power consumption well its not sucha problem if you have good enough power supply

"everyone (pro websites) says that the nVIdia has sharper images" -------lol this gave me a good laugh, human eye can't see the difference between radeon and geforce image quality as it is no real difference in quality

I wouldn't say that they have "great driver support". I hear lots of ppl complaining how they have a hard time getting any set of drivers to work with their new 4870X2.

Yeah, I agree, and I am an ATI man myself. When I first got my 2900PRO, I could not get any drivers from AMD's site, because the 2900PRO was not an official card of ATI, at least that is what their customer support said. It works fine for me now, but at first I was not very happy with this card, or AMD's and Sapphires level of support.

I recently put a 4850 into my new system. I had read reviews where people mentioned some heat problems. I can verify that there is a genuine heat problem with 4850s , probably 4870s too, though I have raed lately these problems have been fixed through GPU BIOS revisions which alter the stock fan speed. Anyway, when I checked my temperature, idle was about 75 degrees and load was between 85-90 degrees. Far too hot. I once had an X800XL which died a premature death because it used to run too hot at stock speeds. Along with my 4850 I had also ordered an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 GPU cooler and corresponding Turbo Cooler Fans. The cooler also comes with RAM and regulator heatsinks. Unfortunately, the regulator heatsinks are designed for the 38xx series cards and did not fit, but I used a method that I read elswhere which is to detach the regulator part (saw off with hacksaw) from the original cooler and use that. Its held down by two screws. Works great. The Accelero cooler is as large as the gfx card. Ok, results. Idle temperatures: 40 degrees, load temperatures: 65 degrees. Much, much better. This card should last me a good while. If I had a little extra cash, I would definitely go for the HD4870. These are great cards. It reminds me of the Radeon 9800pro. It was a big jump up in performanceat the time from anything else.

They do come pretty hot but there's always the fanfix. You might have to deal with a louder fan because the inrease of RPM but it's worth it. Personally, I run my HD4870 at 30% with temps around 60C. If I feel that's not enough, i crank it up higher to 40% fan speed and that's all I'll ever need.

He can also go for something a bit quieter and dont need to mod the fan speeds to have cool temps.

Im talking about non reference cooling. Powercolor has the first one on newegg.

Yes, but the fan isn't much bigger, and has to move air through a more restrictive space.

oh and i rofl'ed at RavingAzn's comment, cause it was true

and also, if a OC'ed GTX 260 is better, just get teh Diamond XOC and it will be better (dont know how much it is tho) or just OC the card yourself, but then you can OC the GTX 260

it doesnt matter, the games which the GTX 260 is faster is most likley games which have that Nvidia, The Way its meant to be played thing on it, so the game is better optimised for Nvidia cards

its great how ATI can still get basically the same FPS as teh GTX260 even when the 260 is better optimised for the game

and also, im a Nvidia fanboy, but i decided to go ATI this time cause Nvidia really F'ed up this series of GPU, maybe next year or end of this year they will strike back (lets hope they do) and by the time i build a new rig (Q3 next year) no one knows who will be winning then

thats why i wanna hold out till then and see if i wanna Intel chipset or a Nvidia chipset

I had a Radeon 9800pro. There used to be lots of ppl reporting that the heatsink was too hot to touch. It was. After a year, that fried. Replaced with X800XL. Same story, It too was too hot to touch. It too fried. Got 4850. That was same story. It was too hot to touch as well as monitoring app reporting temps as high as 95 degrees. Thats why I replaced default cooler with aftermarket one. Can touch cooler and it is cold to lukewarm. Not going to let this card fry. I still feel annoyed that those other cards fried just because of inadequate coolers from ATI.

That's not true either - most of the time that splash screen just means Nvidia did some brief work with the company to ensure the game worked, and then paid them to put up the splash screen. GRiD is a TWIMTBP title and runs much better on ATI hardware, and several other games are the same. You might be surprised at how many games have that splash screen yet have basically zero Nvidia optimization.

http://www.techspot.com/review/109-geforce-gtx-260-280-versus-radeon-4850-4870/page4.html

both are performing the same in crysis and other games ! all i said is that i love not tweaking around with pc hardware , just install and play , and so the gtx here is more reliable (the ocd edition)

and also before my current card(8800 gt 512MB) i had a 7900 GTO (512) so if i get another card with a 512 Mb i wont feel like am upgrading , maybe thats whats making me in favor of the gtx . . :D

I guess you never heard of Ati Tool, Ati Tray Tools or the famous fan fix to raise the fan speed. My 9800Pro and X800XL are still functional.

The gtx 260 requires a powersupply with 2x6pin connectors and at least 36-40amps off of the +12V section so your defiently going to need a new powersupply.

Well you didn't read hard enough since it was a OC versions and benchmarks shown in this thread have proven that a OC 4870 is > 260 OC..........

I have never seen those benches. How does the 4870 overclock? The ftw is impressive I cant touch the overclock the put on that card on my vanilla gtx260. I get just past ftw clocks. Both cards 4850/70 and gtx260/280 have a long way to go with their drivers. I dont know much about the ati issues but my gtx260 had downclocking issues in games occasionally now with the temp nvidia fix it dosent downclock while surfing the web (that means the nvidia cards draw mora at idle). I also had issus with a few of their drives crashing games to desktop. One driver would crash a couple of games so I would switch drivers it would work for those games but crash another game or two (I could get specific if you want). Their new beta driver seems to have helped but I had a drive fail so I havent been able to do too much testing it seems to be much better. My point is that you cant really judge either card now. These cards are still in a beta phase with their drivers and benches will change from driver to driver. The new nvidia driver bought up my 3dmark vantage graphics score up by quite a bit and its just an early beta driver.

Yes I think I know volts x amps equals watts........ When you read powerrequirements from either a manafacturer or review site they almost always give the requirements under load which includes the video card and every other part included which is what I listed. By itself it draws inbetween 200-250 watts

That link shows the card under load at the psu at 270w. Im sure it can get to be a little more than that.Im sure I can find more links from other sites. Keep in mind the reason you need to buy a bigger psu than you relly need is that most power supplys deliver like 80% of their rated current especily over time. That includes some of the "better" manufacturers.

[QUOTE="mastershake575"][QUOTE="sentenced83"]btw whats the psu thats is needed to run the gtx 260 ? i have a 470 Wartiedeadat40

The gtx 260 requires a powersupply with 2x6pin connectors and at least 36-40amps off of the +12V section so your defiently going to need a new powersupply.

The gtx260 draws 432-480w by itself? Voltsxamps=watts

Yes I think I know volts x amps equals watts........ When you read powerrequirements from either a manafacturer or review site they almost always give the requirements under loadwhich includes the video card and every other part included which is what I listed. By itself it draws inbetween 200-250 watts

Toms seems to say its alot less than that. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-gtx-280,1953-25.html

Toms also been known to be very unrealible and didn't I clearly say the card underload and not idle ? I guessed you missed that....

I never mentioned him any powersupply and are you really trying to argue about me being a whole 20w off under max peak ?

Do you need any other links?

If you would learn how to read that is the SYSTEM under load in every bench not just the video card. Dude just admit that you were wrong. Just admit it.

Wait.... The other parts don't really require that much power so how is 200-250 wrong ? The pci xpress slot with a single 6pin connector alone is around 150w.....

Hmmm GTX 260 FTW Edition? I take it it's factory overclocked? Anyway, over a standard GTX 260 the HD 4870 is quite a bit faster. Take a look at Anandtech's review.Marfoo

plz tell me FTW doesn't mean for the win! what next geforce 380 chuck norris ?

Sorry I was kindof just messing with ya but, I heard (I could be wrong here) that the pci-e slot provides 50w and a 6-pin connector provides 100w and an 8-pin (this Im really not sure about) carries like 125w.
