I'd say Guild Wars 2 hands down. From what Ive seen so far SWTOR brings nothing new at all.

Even though I am a SW fan, I will remain highly sceptical about the game and will await for reviews and player opinions first and then decide whether I buy or not.
GW 2 on the other hand is a definite day 1 buy for me. I was amazed by what I saw up until now. The game promises to change a lot in the genre. Can't wait! :)
Sry for SWTOR because i had terrible expirience with Latest Bio Ware product DA2 , EA sux and Microsoft sux.!!! ARENA NET HERE I COME!
fortunately I do not have to choose just one game :D I will be buying both, because both are going to be simply fantastic
I picked Star Wars.
I am tired of the midevil style fantasy games like Wow, and GW and and what have you... I only have 2 games remotely like that, that I am looking forward to, Diablo 3, and Skyrim.
The only other MMO that interests me is The Secret World... and maybe... MAYBE Torchlight.
I loved Guild Wars so more of it but in an actual MMO setting sounds awesome. As for The Old Republic, I don't like Star Wars so I'm definitely not the target audience for this game.
im expecting sky anyminute to rush this thread and proclaim SWTOR is the best thing since sliced bread.. haw haw HAW!!
in all honesty swtor looks like another money grab at the long since milked stupid franchise that is star wars.. TFU 1 & 2, SW battlefront: rogue squadron
sw battlefront: elite squad
i resteth my case.. EA cant go on miliking that franchise like its going to give milk.. at some point that cow will stop giving it up and i think that time is long since passed. and there is NOTHING EA can do about it
Guild Wars 2: I am getting increasingly more hyped up for this game. Dynamic Events, detailed character creation, beautiful artyle, combining attacks and most importantly, seems to fix a huge issue I have with many modern RPGs, the holy trinity (something I consider a plague to gaming). Guild Wars 2 is one of my most hyped games, and this is something I am definately pre-ordering. With that said, it isnt my most hyped up mmo.
Star Wars The Old Republic: Mixed opinions on this one. On one day it looks to be a good levelling experience, the next day it looks like an uninspired WoW clone, that falls for many mistakes present in the industry, namely broken threat mechanics and for non boss fights, lack of teamwork.
Guild Wars 2 is the one I am looking forward to the most.
Edit: Here is why I hate the trilogy, in its current implementation.
Wont there be a year between SWTOR and GW2 releases anyway? I dont see why you cant like and have both.bonafidetkWill TOR will release later this year, and ArenaNet said that the are looking for a 2011 lauch aswell, however they way they talk about beta dates and such sounds to people more like Q1 2012.

GW2 should be released early or the middle of next year. Its in Alpha right now and the devs said it should be in beta by the end of the year. IMO the beta shouldn't last long really...

if it is half as much fun as WoW, we will all be incredibly fortunate.

Agreed, but I am still quite tired of Midevil fantasy games (especially MMO's) So the Gameplay better grasp me good considereing the setting!
I also have hundreds of other titles to play as well. So I will get the MMO that appeals to me, if it isn't the one that appeals to you, and you have a problem with that, then you are the one with the problem, and will be having to get over it, not I.
Not to say I won't try GW2 later, just right now I have 0 interest for it.
Graphics and gameplay feature wise, I would prefer Guild Wars 2. But I'm sick of fantasy MMOs and I need a short break for them. So TOR fits the bill nicely. TOR is just a temporary fix however. The real MMOs i'm waiting for are Firefall and Planetside.mirgamer
I am also sick of fantasy, but Star Wars is fantasy as well, Science Fantasy to be precise. However, GW2 looks to freshen up the formula, and that to me is more than enough for me to ignore the fantasy setting.

And GW2 does....?
This coming from a guy who is getting them BOTH Day 1...
I'm sorry but society is moving on from fantasy, we're moving on to new and better shores, it's like we're on the mayflower and we're all sailing...or, warpdriving into the wonderful realms of science fiction! TOR is going impact mmos like never befoer, and maybe one day we'll fnally get that expensive space mmo we've all been dying for. I'm talking about twitch gameplay and not boring Eve.
Guild wars 2? Pah, fireballs are so faux pas.

Are you kidding me? If the videos and information NCSoft has released about Guild Wars 2 are any indication, GW2 will redefine the MMO genre. Combat itself looks way different from the typical MMO.
That being said, we won't know for sure how well Guild Wars 2 will live up to these claims until it is actually released or gets a beta.

I must of watched different videos... :(
Guild Wars 2, just like a lot of games that are deemed highly influential does little new, instead it takes what works and expands on it.
Dynamic Events: An evolved version of Public Quests seen in games like WAR
Combat: Several mmos have action oriented combat, again nothing new really.
Underwater: Not an mmo, but for some reason the underwater combat reminds me a lot of the Wii game Monster Hunter Tri.
Character Backround: Looks a lot like what Mount and Blade uses. Except the choices seem to have an effect on the storyline, instead of just your starting stats and gear.
No Trilogy: Plenty of games have had a less rigid trilogy, such as CoH. Switching role in the middle of combat has been done before as well.
Downed State: Borderlands. But RPGified
None of the things seen in Guild Wars 2 are as new as people make them seem, however the execution of them all might be innovative. And it certainly seems to evolve a lot of the elements listed.

Or you most likely didn't watch any. If you have then you've watched very few.

Or he did watch them, Guild Wars 2 does very little new. But I wouldnt exactly call it generic either. Most of the things that guild wars 2 does has been done before. Although Guild Wars 2 looks to do them all better ;) It will hopefully be an evolution to the genre. But only by taking what has worked from multiple sources and improving on them further, bringing them to the light.
Much like a lot of these revolutionary games, like Half Life, Halo, WoW, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Ocarina of Time, Baldur's Gate, ect. The large majority of revolutionary games were not as innovative as people would like to believe. Guild Wars 2 may join this list.
Seeing as how neither of them has been released, I haven't played either one or gotten even the slightest glimps of the story I'm going to say people need to stop creating comparing threads on these 2 games because there is absolutely no way we can know whether or not either game will be good or terrible. ferrari2001I totally agree. Maybe call the thread "Which one are you looking forward to the most"....
Does Star Wars: TOR have a monthly fee? I do not do monthly fees.
AmazonTreeBoa
Then you will NOT be doing ToR I guess (yes, it will have monthly fees...)
I still don't see the big fuss about monthly fees....? or how people can't compare it to something like joining a gym...
