PC Gamer: H1Z1 now listed on Steam

I'll be brutally honest, DayZ will always hold a special place in my heart for creating the concept, but I have much more faith in SOE releasing a polished and enjoyable product within a reasonable amount of time.

I plan on dropping the $40 for the deluxe edition.

Anybody else going to pick it up?

Not right away, another early access so will steer clear until I see enough comments and reviews to suggest it worth while. I still think DayZ is not worth the price they currently ask for.

In its current shape I agree that DayZ isn't worth the price.

I don't really agree with the sentiment towards early access titles, though. I think some developers are just in better positions to make progress in games.

I think I'll wait until it's free. Looks rather unremarkable from all the footage I've seen. At least with DayZ there's an incentive for early-access. I'll see how it pans out - microtransactions and survival-MMO sounds like a match made in the deepest darkest pits of Hell.

TC, you had me scared to death for a moment that steam had been compromised and info may have been stolen.

As for the game, I'm skeptical as to how well it will do in a market already flooded with zombie and/or survival games this late.

I regret buying Dayz and this game looks like Dayz with micro transactions and no co-op option its a total pass for me and I love open world games.

Another sleep simulator. Everyone jumping of the bandwagon because it's cheap to produce and making lots of money. Not because they want to craft an excellent product. Looks shite.

The engine in DayZ is what makes it for me, even with all it's problems. Anyone know what engine they're using in H1Z1?

@klunt_bumskrint: It uses the Forgelight engine (same engine as Planetside 2) as far as I know. It sounds great, but it doesnt look great from what I have seen. DayZ is really starting to shape up nicely and I think a lot of naysayers are basing their opinions on the Arma 2 mod and earlier alpha builds of stand-alone.

@BSC14: Yeah I agree. I want H1Z1 to be good, but I have to say im not impressed with any of what I have seen so far and what I have seen seems more comparable to The WarZ than DayZ.

Why do you say it has no co-op? Co-op is available from the very get go, you just have to find the other person you want to play with.

Oh god, come on dude. You're really comparing the work of a studio that has been around for decades with the work of people whose sole goal was to rob people of their money? I don't always agree with SOE, but they're nothing like the assholes who created The War Z.

Their CES 2015 build was their really old build. The gameplay from friday is with their new build.

Im not comparing OP Productions v SOE money making practices at all, no.

I am not a huge survival sim person, but I will just stick with DayZ...

They had a stream on Twitch on January 9th that didn't look bad. I'll post the video if I can find it.

The idea of Dayz is really cool. But the many clones popping up just seem like desperate cash-in's than offering anything worthwhile to the table. This game basically copy pasted it's aesthetic.

I will play it when it becomes free. Even though I find the open-world survival multiplayer genre interesting enough, I'm not willing to pay for unifinished products.

There should be a whole bunch of streams from that day.

Yup, that's the one. Obviously the game isn't finished, but it doesn't look like The War Z, either.

So they're definitely using faked/touched up screenshots on the Steam page, right? Ugh. Really tired of devs and false advertising. I've watched a ton of videos and I haven't seen anything that even looks half as good as this. I'll probably get it after reading a few user reviews, not in any rush. Not a fan of the microtransactions either. I'd rather pay $20 or $40 than play a free to play game with microtransactions.

Marketing screenshots have always been touched up, ever since retail boxes existed 30 years ago.

Saying that, this game doesn't look as bad as the videos posted on this page. I saw a developer preview a while back that looked lots better. (it's no Crysis obviously)

According to reviews people can't log in, servers don't work, it's laggy, there are people hacking and flying all over the map, all sorts of different error codes, and the game crashes often.

Who didn't see this coming? Can you imagine if this game came out on Steam when they first promised? Which was May 2014, nine months ago.

I haven't seen any gameplay videos since the announcement. Is this like an arcady version of DayZ?

Well, hopefully it's not at least a repeat of WarZ. Either way, things aren't looking favorably for the early access launch. Couldn't they just make it a little less blatant that they're trying to cash in on another game's popularity by attempting to beat them to the punch? With every step of the way it feels like they're rushing the hell out of the release

It's "Mostly Positive" on Steam's feedback, but if you actually read the positive reviews, they're all joking and saying it's the best error simulator they ever played :P

The devs said over and over that it will ABSOLUTELY NOT be "pay 2 win" in any way at all. What do air drops (that cost money) give you? Guns. Big lol.

I think it works like this actually:

Air Drops will be in "event" servers only, which require tickets to join. Tickets can be bought with real money or obtained somewhat in-game.

As bad as the release has been, one would almost think this is an early access alpha game. ;)

The game has been unplayable for about 10 hours now for nearly everyone. Early access or not, you don't release something that is completely fucking broken. You do what's called an "open beta" to test this kind of thing out.

It's pay 2 win regardless and I believe air drops are in all servers. You can pay real money for guns. The drops are announced to everyone on the server as an "event" but one player had it drop right next to him twice and the third time was about 20 seconds away. They blatantly lied to everyone buying the game. Really shady devs especially since they said it's not pay 2 win so many times over.

Depends what level of bugs/crashes/alpha-state you are willing to put up with.

After DayZ I made a choice of never trying a game in an alpha state ever again. I wait till at least the second or third beta test now.
