I myself said it in this thread that QTE is the ugly of the game; flaws of a game should be mentioned yes, but I don't agree with excessive ranting on and on about ONE annoying element, especially considering the full game, there really aren't that many QTEs.

KodiakKoolaid

If it ruins some parts of the game it is most indeed worth going on and on about. Sure the game gets better as you go along but I can imagine the amount of people who start the game, see this action/set pieces/QTE fest that it is and just go "Nope, I can't play this sh!t" and then stop. The opening of your game is supposed to set up how the rest of the game is and give you a strong appetite for it. The opening to this game is almost the worst part of it so far for me, it gets a LOT more enjoyable later in tha game

I'm pretty positive that crystal dynamics will tone down the qtes in the next installment given the fan reactions. I agree that the opening is the weakest part of the game so far (haven't finished it yet).

I have a feeling they will scale everything back (I hope anyway) because this game is just to get a foothold and show people the new vision and the next one will be what they really wanted to do

There was one really good sequence maybe 5-6 hours into the game where you have very little ammo, only your bow and face only a couple of enemies that are really spread out. I wish more of the game was like that, the combat really shines in those moments.

Agreed.I had a tonne of fun there. So much better than the usual wave of enemies that pour out at you

It is full of quick time events but they arent that bad I only died like 6-10 times because of them, lol. It is still a great game, quick time events at least make people pay attention but if you already pay attention you will not notice them pop up.

I feel like action-adventure games like Uncharted fall back on way too much shooting galleries. But then again, I have no clue why this was any different when I played Gears of War 1-3. xD Maybe because Gears focus was more about shooting and smashing enemies.

It's a way of padding out the game. Much easier to just throw a few waves of enemies at you than come up with anything meaningful.

TR had one section in a shanty town where you meet the scots man where a fvck load of dudes come crawling out and I was just thinking "this should have ended 5 mins ago" same with Uncharted 3. Geras is ok because it's a war so you'd expect that, plus they're calls the locust, they tend to travel in hoards :P

I'm glad you mentioned Uncharted for also being guilty of this by the end of your post, because if you hadn't then I would have brought it up. :)

When you first get the fire arrows and the huge shanty town full of mobs...I loved that.  Sending their ragdolls sky high was hilarious.  Got killed a handfull of times on hard, too, which I liked

Seems to be less as you go on. There's more action ahead with the gameplay.

At first I was a bit disappointed but I feel a bit statisfied by how things.

To be honest i for one love QTE's in games, i dunno why but for me it adds to the experience. I don't mind them at all.

the last section of the game (after point of no return) spells the full game: incredible visual, exciting platforming, a bit too much killing regular goons, and key moment QTEs...

oh, the soundtrack is great too!

a great reboot for TR franchise! Progressing from realistic setting to the supernatural, the story serves as a good introduction to Lara's becoming of Tomb Raider.

There are plenty of possibility for the games to come, more complicated puzzles, less regular goon fights, and more variety to boss fightsand a prettier Lara?

its been a while since I so enjoy a game:)

I have no idea what companies are thinking with all the QTE's. I have yet to find anyone what was like, "Man, those QTE's really made that game great." The only thing they do for a game is add frustration and a barrier to enjoying a story. Personally, (thankfully, baught the game on sale for like $10) I stopped playing the game before escaping the cave. After the third time trying to skirt under the bolder and watching her face get caved in I called it quits. I don't get my jollies from watching women be smashed by rocks.  I wanted to enjoy a good story game and would have continued playing, no problem, if they were just cutscenes, but making a cut-scene failable is a miserable game design failure. QTE's are not fun, and never were... so why do designers use them? Marvel: Ultimate Alliance had looping QTE's which were still boring as hell, but at least kept the "story" moving without completely pointless grotesque female impalements.

What the hell else are people doing when playing an interactive medium besides paying attention? Napping? Crocheting? JAG re-runs? QTE's are pointless and terrible game design adding very little bang for the buck in terms of expirience, and frankly more often than not detract from the players over all awareness of the story as you are paying more attention to the key presses than what is being acted in the scene.

The QTE's arent overwhelming on the new TR. They're a little unnecessary and could be considering lazy. Overall though, I'd say at 75% TR is worth anyones time. The game was obviously designed with a control in mind, not a mouse, which does make the game a bit too easy, but overall it was fun.

It is nowhere near 70%.

This.  It isn't mainly QTE's, but there certainly are good handfull of them.

Well I am at the part where the guardians showed up. I don't think they are bad. And I actually liked the animations of when i died. Brutal stuff. But I liked the part where i just got the bow, and was caught in a bear trap. I won't spoil it. But that part was awesome That was awesome and this game needed more of that intense feel.
