I honestly don't like the new $59.99 price structure either ever since CoD MW2 got away with it been normal here lately on new block buster releases.

I don't mind paying it for high quality games like Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 and Battlefield 3 but everything else will wait on price drop and here lately my game log is so backed up hell probably won't be buying anything else unless really want it or till Steam Spring / Xmas sale =P

I thought that PC games had been $10 cheaper than consoles because they didnt have to pay fees to Sony or MS.

So where does the extra expense come from to justify charging the same price as consoles (other than another attempt from producers to milk more money from customers while giving nothing extra to show for it)?

Mr_Ditters
That's just it, it's nothing but milk.

Looks like the $60 price tag is becoming standard for PC games from big companies like EA and Activision. Another $10 isn't really that huge of a deal through, plus it probably have a sale on it soon after it is released.

Oh well...My PC probably can't handle the requirements when it is released anyways. So by the time I do meet those requirements, it'll be bit cheaper I'm hoping.

Looks like I won't be playing BF3 on day one.

I refuse to pay more than $50 for a game.

I'm sure you will find a pre-order deal. Newegg usually has $10-off pre-orders a week or two before release.

While we're at it, here's a few catologue prices from 1992!

Secret of Monkey Island on CDROM

And my favorite pic: LOOM on CDROM

Ah. Brings back memories of shoveling sidewalks, mowing lawns, then checking the mailbox every day for weeks....:)

I don't know exactly how this helps whatever arguement...but it's interesting discussion fodder, maybe.

Do you know nothing about principle?

You're just encouraging publishers to charge $60 for every PC game when there is no reason for the game to be that price (unlike on consoles).

Its called capitalism, profit, rising development costs. PC game prices aren't set in stone.

And money is a voting bill, which is exactly why people shouldn't give in to this.

It's not as bad as everyone thinks. If you look at options you can get them cheaper (ebay, some Steam titles, amazon, etc), the retail shops are really expensive....

NZ is getting there. MW2 on launch for 360 was something like $130-$140.

I guess EA (Electronic Anuses) made Amazon bump their pre-order price from $49 to $59.

I don't pay console prices for PC games so until they drop the price back to $49 they will be missing out on two pre-orders from me.

Really dude, it's $10....

Well the whole rationale behind the $10 extra is because "the price of games are going up" so why aren't consoles paying $10 extra? They should in turn be paying $69, right?

I think cause you just put as examples two "mostly" MP games. A lot of SP games work fine on release...

I know the single player of bad company 2 ran like crap until they patched a lot of the issues out. It would pause every 3 or 4 seconds for half a second while moving around before I downloaded all the patches.

Just be glad you don't live in Australia! Their games have been $100 for years and the AUD is worth more than the USD! I hate buying $60 games and have not done so yet, I just wait for the price to drop but you can definitely be assured I am pre-ordering BF3. I've waited 6 years for this! Plus, if you pre order you get the Back to Karkand pack free which i am sure will be at least $15 if not more so really you aren't paying $60 for the game; you can think of it as $49.99 for BF3 and you get the expansion pack on sale for $10!!!

By that logic console games should be $70.

Try $80-$100 here in Australia and see how ur principle goes....

Or $110 in sweden.

The reason the games are getting more expensive is because...

Inflation, Increasing Development Costs and the fact that we let them increase their price.

Unfortunately or fortunately prices are not set in stone, and developers will try to charge the price for the game that will generate them the most profit.

You're just encouraging publishers to charge $60 for every PC game when there is no reason for the game to be that price (unlike on consoles).

You're also assuming that game development costs haven't risen a penny in the past 15 years.

In that case this would only be ok IF and only IF console games cost $70 IMO.

When is everybody going to realize that big, mulitplat blockbuster games are going to retail at $60? It doesn't bother me that much. It obviously doesn't slow down sales that much if publishers keep pricing games at $60. Just because you bought a more expensive PC doesn't instantly entitle you to cheaper games. The market is at work. You ever wonder why the indie developers cannot get away with $60 games? Usually because at $60 not as many people would buy it and they would lose money even at the increased price point.

If the game would sell about the same at $50 as it does at $60, why would a publisher drop the price? It's pointless.

And this is the other option. If a $10 price increase really doesn't settle well, buy a different game. Problem solved.

$50 for the game $10 for the DLC. Whatever, its still BF3, still a day one buy for me. I will always support Dice, even if its EA who is raising the price.

This is EA we're talking about. Are you really that surprised? Sometimes people seem to forget that EA is Josef Stalin just because Activision is the headline hogging Hitler.

I don't feel right paying $60 for PC games. I think they were fine with the $50 price tag, but switched over to $60 for no other reason than to just make more money. I don't think it has to do with rising development costs, because if that was the case, we would have had $60 PC games at the start of this generation. It's just a push by corporations to increase the price tag for no other reason than pure capitalism. If people are willing to pay... why not? I'm not worried about it much, though, because they can only go so far before many stop buying the games at those prices. Besides that, $60 PC games tend to drop in price fairly quickly, as opposed to console games. The only games I may pay $60 for is Rage and Mass Effect 3. Those two games I simply cannot wait for.
