@verbalfilth: Thank you! This will be helpful.

I'll post my library here soon, when I've got a bit more time. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm in the 600+ games club, so there's a good chance I'll have quite a few games that every one has.

If you have that many games, I don't think you need to sent me your library, You still can if you very much want to, but with that many games you don't have to.

i have an epic problem; my print screen is not working for some reason. it doesn't copy anything to clipboard. doesn't work with keyboard, doesn't work with on-screen keyboard. what the hell...? but i'm working on it.

If you 150+ games, then you don't necessarily have to sent my your library. You can if you want, but you don't have to if you have 150+ games.

Your welcome to participate at any time. When we announce the game, you can join in at any time. Out of the people who have posted up their library, I have an idea of the game we are going to play that the majority own. Though, 5-7 people on the sign up list haven't posed their screenshots of their library yet, so I won't say until I see them. So we will hopefully start soon :)

@behardy24: don't wait for my library . I own like 9 games in total. I had a contract with my parents and the story goes deep.. the only thing I can tell you is that, I spent all this year's pocket money on getting a new PC.

Just announce the game and I'll see if I have it. Even if not, there's the sale...

I'm definitely in this club as well (only, uh, a bit closer to double that number. ish.).

Whatever this thread picks, there are pretty good odds that I have it.

Would have liked a vote of a choice of games rather than one just being picked for us, but never mind maybe we could for the next game.

Fallout not a bad choice I got the game last year and only played about 3 hours of it before getting bored, you could say I never gave the game a chance so I'd like to revisit it and give it a better go.

I remember thinking it controlled like crap compared to Skyrim that I had just finished before playing Fallout, still happy to give this another go.

Also were do we stand with mods, Fallout is a very moddable game, should we keep it all vanilla game, or mod if we wish and share what the mod done to the experience.

Hello everyone! The decision of the first game we are going to play has been made! The game we are going to play is Fallout: New Vegas. I have updated the original post with some new information, so make sure to check it out. We officially start playing tomorrow, Monday December 22nd, 2014. (You can start now if you want)

From the library screenshots I've seen already, it seem 2 people don't own the game currently in their library. Those people can still join in if they buy game, which is currently on sale for just $4.99 on Steam.

If you have any questions, feel free to sent them to me either through a reply or a PM.

Now let's play! :D

@behardy24:

I wish I could start playing tomorrow, but I can't play any games during the holidays. I off to beaches and sunshine with my girlfriend, so I can't complain :)

I'll start playing when I get back, probably closer to the new year. Any thoughts on how long we'll stay with each game?

Not a bad pick. I remember playing the game just to see if it worked and never got back to it.

This should be fun. I'll put in sometime into this week.

For the next game, we will probably vote. I just decided to pick the game just for this time because I wanted to get this thread off the ground quickly.

Totally forgot about mods! Thank you for reminding me! have updated the OP addressing modding. Here it is:

Can we play with Mods? Yes you can. Just make sure you indicate within your post when you are talking about the mods.

Don't sweat it. You can join in at anytime. Have fun at your vacation! :D

I would like us to stay with each game until a majority of users have completed it. Then we'll move on to another game after that.

Good choice. It's a great rpg. However I get the dreaded "sliding movement" bug on my current setup so I can't promise I can keep playing it weekly (it's annoying as hell).

I have completed it though on my previous rig so I may chip in with some of my thoughts here and there.

Might have to rule myself out, AMD piece of shit driver has bricked my 7850.

Updated to the latest driver and its fucked my whole rig.

I doubt my spare 5450 can play fallout, or even solitaire for that matter

I'm so angry !!!!!!!!!!!!

I can rob a 4890 from my parents PC they wouldn't even notice it care if I switched there PC back to its onboard because they only check emails and surf net.

Can a 4890 run fallout decent enough paired with my 8350.?

I didn't know what the sliding movement bug was, so I looked it up and I was surprised to find out that a ton of people suffer from the problem. Sad to see that no patch was issued to deal with this problem since so many people seem to be affected by it.

Hopefully we can see you pitch in your thoughts of the game here and there in the future :)

Maybe a "Scientist" build with a character model of Einstein (or some other smart person like Tesla)? You put skill points in energy weapons and hacking. It would take awhile to pick up and actually execute since laser/plasma weapons are not abundance in the beginning of the game, but I think that is true for all unique builds. I started playing today and I created a "sniper build", so I focus on guns and sneaking. I'm pretty early on (heading to Nipton now) so I haven't done much actually sniping so far, but I think I'll write something up on my thoughts of the beginning of the game soon.

Here's a gamesradar guide that has some interesting unique build ideas: http://www.gamesradar.com/fallout-new-vegas-character-build-guide/

I started my play through tonight. It seems like a great game and same formula. That is not a bad thing. My build is more aggressive than I normally do for these type of games.

In terms of combat, it ain't all freedom early on.

Screenshot taken by me
Screenshot taken by me

After playing this game for numerous hours on the Xbox 360 and now on the PC, I realized that the game doesn't accommodate players to use any other weapons that are not guns for the first couple hours of the game. Exclusively using any other weapons that not firearms will usually net the player a hard difficult time even on the easiest difficulty. Want to charge into battle with your fists ready to hit the pulp? You'll get slaughter by a group of convicts with 9MM submachine guns. Using laser weapons to vaporize your enemies? You'll probably get a couple of kills here and there, but eventually you'll run out of ammo and have to switch to something else (aka a gun). This is something I realized playing as a character with emphasis on guns, and even though it doesn't affect me for this particularly playthrough, I still don't like it at all. The opening hours of the game doesn't allow the player to really open and explore the other possibilities of combat. From scavenging cabinets to looting bodies, you find an abundance of ammo and very little of anything else. So the player is forced to use some form of firearms if they wish to be successful and progress through the game's early tough fights. This goes against the game's original design philosophy of being able to approach fights whatever way you want to.The only time I think players can really get anywhere in terms of delveing into other combat skills is when your character is level 15+. That's when you have multiple major areas opened up, a good amount of caps in hand, a fair number of skills leveled up, and numerous traits unlocked. On the flip side, I think the game does a good job in bringing to light other non-violent skills like speech, lockpicking, repair, science, etc. The locations leading up to the New Vegas strip are sprinkled with mini-games for each respective skill, offering an even balance for players to experience or not experience those particular mini-challenges. In a game all about choice, I wish New Vegas would offer you the chance to try its other combat features on for size in the early portions of the game. Whether it would let you the moment you step outside of Doc Mitchell's house or give it to you a piece at time, I just wish it was design in a way to give you more of an opportunity to do so and be successful at it.

Anyone feel like this too? Or am I wrong?

After writing this short rant out, I realized the beginning of the game is a lot like the journey of a human being. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out. When a baby is born, it can't make choices and decision because it is not knowledgeable enough to be allow to decide those things. So it can only do the most basic functions like breathing oxygen, swallowing water, and gulping down food. But as it grows, it starts to become more aware of the world and starts making choices on its' own merit. In Fallout: New Vegas, the game doesn't want you to experiment the other combat ways just yet, so your prone to using its most core element, which is gun play, for 70%-80% of the encounters. And as you move along across the wasteland and become a more experience player, you, not the game, choose which field of combat you want to endure in.

Alright I'll give some ear;y thoughts on my play through, my experience is ruined somewhat by not having a GPU so I'm playing the game with my on board chip set Radeon HD 3000.

I get about 20-25fps at low settings and 720p, living the dream.

Despite the poor performance I'm currently getting I've clocked 10 hours of game play on it, really liking the world and the characters and I'm enjoying being an absolute bastard making towns hate me.

I have noticed your treated about the same weather your liked or hated, NPC dialogue doesn't change to reflect your change in status, not from the times I tested anyway.

Gun play is terrible, tried to use a 360 pad but kept getting killed because my aim was shite(probably more to do with my fps) used keyboard and mouse and stopped dying as I could shoot people.

Also I get that its an RPG and you need to level up stats, but it takes an insane amount of bullets to kill people, even the slow motion head shots only take off a few bars of health.

I'm up to the part were your actually in the Vegas strip, might have to hold off for now my motherboard graphics couldn't handle the increased detail of that area lol.

Hoping to get new motherboard tomorrow and fit my 7850 back into my rig then I can enjoy it maxed out at 1080p :D

I've been playing this game for a combined total of about 5 hrs and I'm just about ready to leave the starting town. One thing I have noticed off the bat is that I was bombarded with decisions to make. The decisions were not so much as plot point decisions (for the most part) but they were all perk related. Its been a while since I played Fallout 3 but I don't remember all these options being a part of the game when I played it back in 2008. I think I had a total of 3 different trees I had to choose from. After making what I felt were excellent decisions, I ran into a mission with optional quests that required me to have a barter and explosive level of 25 to get assistance from these respective fellows. I wanted to pull my hair out and start again but I just proceeded with the mission and was successful despite not having their aid.

The person I was fighting for died however, and now I'm wondering if he would have lived if I had successfully convinced those fellows to help. This is the makings of a good game ladies and gentlemen, a good game that may warrant a second play through at some point.

Something else that frustrated me immensely was all the miscellaneous items I kept finding. There are items you find that you know are going to be useful, but most of the items I keep finding seem ambiguous as far as whether they are junk or not...and I've played RPGs long enough to know that some junk can turn out to be extremely important. So I'm very torn when it comes to throwing things away.... So Yes, most of my time was wasted trying to sell some of these items for money and managing my inventory so that my character wouldn't get overburdened..which she did...a lot.

I later figured out that you can store items in any crate which was a relief for me since I thought I had to progress far enough into the game to purchase a home before I could do anything like that.....

Now I feel fairly comfortable that I've done everything my current level will allow me to do in the town....so I'll be moving forward shortly.

There's something strange about that robot though...I'll be keeping a suspicious eye out on that clunker.

I'll probably revisit the town again though since there are still those graveyards that indicate I need a shovel to dig them up. Curios to see what I'll find in there.

I started a new game. First thing that struck me was the incredible atmosphere Obisidian had created.

From the wild west twang in the menu screen and the tumble weeds rolling across the dusty roads, to the dialogue when talking to npcs.

It just immersed me in the world straight away. (then the sliding bug happened :l)

People praise Bethestha's rpgs, but for me, Obisidian's rpgs just have so much better writing and interesting quests.

Gameplaywise, I always liked the vat system in the new Fallouts. The slow-mo kill cam is a great way to give me a sense of satisfaction with each kill.

However, the gunplay outside of VAts is pretty horrible. I find I keep getting drawn to use Vats for ease and effectiveness.

It's just a shame about the technical issues, oitherwise I would be playing this flawed gem alot more frequently.

I am currently 7 hours into the game and finally getting ready to branch out into the world. The one thing that drives me crazy about these games is the ADD factor. I feel overwhelmed on what to do and find myself doing a little of everything.

I just need to get my routine and then I get straightened out. I cannot get enought of the VATS system. I hope there is a perk like Fallout 3 were everyone explodes after death through VATS.

So being 5 hours in i can again say that this is among my absolute favorite games and i just love the freedom to do whatever you want.

Though i am a bit annoyed that i again some how managed to ruin the prison missions by simply exploring the map and visiting it before going to the town, i had hoped they would have fixed that but oh well.

Will continue and this time i think i might go with being a douche and giving it all to the legion.

I've done that, Hail Caesar!!!!

Good news for me, I tried my 7850 again and it worked so I can now play on Ultra 1080p and 60fps, rather than 720p low and 20fps. RESULT the game feels miles better now, shame I gotta go to work I'm about 9 hours in just got to the Boomers camp.

So how does this work, how long are you planning to do Fallout New Vegas before moving on to the next game?

I am interested, but I do not wish to post my Steam collection so count me in as long as I am not required to share my game collection information. I will also have to re-download New Vegas but I can do that. Also, will the next game played be voted on or how will it work?

I really wish I put more science points into my character.... Once you branch out from the town there is a lot of science options from reprogramming to droid hacking....

We are planning to play Fallout New Vegas until a majority of users have finish the game (or if many users stop playing all together, but that is a last resort)

You don't have to post your Steam Collection now as that was just for deciding which game a majority of users had. We will probably vote for the next game we are going to play but nothing is finalize and nothing is being decided for awhile as we are playing New Vegas currently. (Basically we'll deal with that bridge when we cross it)

Hope this cleared things up and we would love to have you aboard :)

I have noticed your treated about the same weather your liked or hated, NPC dialogue doesn't change to reflect your change in status, not from the times I tested anyway.

I actually never thought about that. Good catch :)

I think there are some subtle differences to the way they treat the player. For example, if you have killed some NCR soldiers but not enough for the NCR to immediately become hostile to you, then NCR soldiers will say things along the lines of "Give me a reason" or "You shouldn't be here". But it's never noticeable and conversations between the player and a NPC do not get a complete overall like in the Mass Effect series for instances. It's kinda disappointing that dialogue doesn't reflect the player's status but I can see why that would be a challenge with having to write and record more lines and making sure everything flows well within the world.

Since I'm most likely to side with Caesar's Legion for this playthrough, I'll do more test since the legion is widely hated across the board. But like you said I think I will be treated the same way.

A good way to decide on a game is if you list about 5 or so games that a lot us have in our Steam Library, then we vote on that, good call with Fallout Vegas though I never cared for it before now its one of my favorite games I've put over 13 hours into so far.

Dinky the Dino says hi!

I feel like Fallout 3 had more side quests, but I have been going for 13 hours and still enjoying it.

@behardy24:

Ok sounds good. You can count me in but I wont be starting New Vegas for the next few days at the earliest (as I have to download it to my Steam library and also, my internet is not the fastest and combine that with being in work, yeah....., but I will do this as it sounds like a good idea and a way to get me to play games I would not normally give another go).

That is probably what we are going to do, but my only worry is that we don't have that many people here and the votes may become scattered, so maybe we'll lower down the choice down to three. But nothing is set in stone of course and we'll finalize all that when we come to it.

So, as my game is downloading from Steam as I type this, any suggestions on first class to go with? I have played before but found when I put more points into science and speech, my character feels incredibly weak on this game (I found with Fallout 3 going science and speech helped a lot, where as on this I feel like the combat takes priority over the talking). Also, any recommendations on where to grind? I got super duper stuck on my last save as I:

Went to the factory where you can let the ghouls use the rocket to leave and thus help the local town, however the invisible beasts in the factory totally over power my character, going outside I have the wrath of the legion as I killed the field commander who burnt down the town near the theme park and they pretty much only need two or three hits to take me out

So that explains why I have not played this game in a while and why I stopped playing it pretty much as I got very stuck very early on.

@Garfield360UK: I went aggressive this play with through with my points in Guns/Repair/Lockpicking/Explosives. I haven't had to many issues with the enemies so far. If I run into the Viper gang I take them down in a few shots...

I don't know how to do the spoilers link....

I took down the Legion with not to many issues on the Rescue quest, but I did get some lucky help from the NCR.

So...this time around in New Vegas, I wanted to do something completely different. I didn't want to play a good-natured charismatic sniper who moonlights as a scientist and locksmith. So I basically went for the opposite - I tagged Unarmed, Melee and Explosives, and immediately signed up with the Powder Gangers.

First impressions with this character build is that it's quite fun to rush people and slash them apart with a machete. Keeping up the spirit of Fallout 2's tribal hijinx, melee and unarmed weapons feel very powerful, and certainly don't get outclassed by large numbers of enemies shooting at you (even in hardcore mode, where your healing is much slower).

What bugs me is the lack of VATS options for melee weapons. I miss being able to specifically "go for the eyes" with a Super Sledgehammer in Fallout 2. I also miss being able to master the various types of kicks and punches found in that game...but I can't really blame New Vegas for that, since it's probably really difficult to implement that on Bethesda's slightly crap combat system.

Anyway....I remember that heaps of people complained about this game being too linear - that you couldn't explore without dying. So I kept that in mind as I planned the first few hours of my journey:

  • Right out the gate, I joined the Powder Gangers, wiped out Goodsprings, and completed all of the Powder Ganger quests.
  • The Powder Ganger quests brought me to Primm, where I promptly murdered the hostaged sheriff. I also mastered the art of murdering people without making other people fromt he same faction hostile.
  • I went no further south than Primm, and headed N/NE to Sloan.
  • Instead of going up to the deathclaws, I headed due east, across the centre of the map. I passed through the Hidden Valley easily.
  • The biggest challenge was the radscorpion pit. A level 4/5 character usually doesn't have much of a chance against them...but in my case, I'd hoarded about 50 sticks of dynamite, a few mines, and general stuff that goes boom.
  • I made it to Novac at level 5, in...mostly one piece. Well, one piece of me wasn't crippled. A bit.

  • From Novac, I wandered up to Boulder City, picked up the plot a little, then rushed over to The Strip....

  • ...where I discovered that stealth-punching people with spiked knuckles had hilarious results:

Anyway, it feels great to play through the game again, especially when viewing it with a critical eye.

The landscape, the Western theme, the dustbowl wasteland...everything looks exactly as it should for a Fallout game, and Obsidian did an excellent job trying to recapture the feel of the series.

The emphasis on the NCR's struggles would probably be lost on newcomers to the series, but carries a fair bit of weight to older fans. This is a community that we have raised from very humble beginings, and which seemed to be one of the biggest hopes for mankind overcoming the War and going back to peace and prosperity...but naturally, since war never changes, they're starting to collapse around the edges due to their greed/incompetence/apathy.

In many ways, the NCR is much more like the Roman Empire than Caesar's Legion. Hm.

@Planeforger: I am doing the normal "good" play through... I believe I handled the sheriff situation incorrectly. Went I went into the prison I just started blasting and then the sheriff took off running. I didn't hit or anything I guess I just scared him. I ended up catching him and getting him back to Primm though...

I feel like there was an easier way to handle that. Put on a Powder Ganger outfit?

@behardy24: a vote of 2 or 3 games would work well.

My motherboard stopped reading my 7850 again, my games on hold for a while.

Just played the first couple of hours in New Vegas today.

Getting into New Vegas reminds me of everything I love about this style of game: the expansive world, the open exploration, the characters and story, as well as the the open character leveling system. I'm a sucker for all the Bethesda games: the whole Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. In fact, I think Elder Scrolls Arena was my very first PC game way back when, and I played every iteration since then.

In fact, I'm so familiar with this type of game that it's like putting on my favorite comfy t-shirt.

But it also makes the little annoyances all that much itchy and uncomfortable. I find myself grinding my teeth every time I open up the PIP Boy interface. Sure, it looks cool, but it's clunky as heck to navigate. I just want to look at the map for a second - why can't I just press the 'M' key? I just want to switch my weapon... what, I can't just press a number key? And 'I' doesn't open my inventory?

So, yeah, no hotkeys for any of the UI windows, and everything I want to look at takes multiple mouse-clicks. This UI thing has been a problem for the last several Bethesda games, but I thought they'd have improved it by now. It's a tiny little annoyance that's giving me a severe mental rash right now.

I don't think it's ever explained in the game, but you can actually assign weapons to hotkeys.

Simply go into the inventory screen, select a weapon, and press a number key to assign the weapon to that number.

I think number 2 is reserved for changing ammo/weapon modes (or something), but you're free to use the rest of them.

@nulld: I think the Pip-Boy UI is a lot more about style over substance in the grand scheme of it all. I don't think it's a bad system at all as it puts all the in-game menus in one place and having the Pip-boy gives context for its existence in the world. But I can see why you would not like it as much if you wanted to quickly bring the map by pressing a key instead of navigating through the pip-boy just can be slow at times. Also, you can hotkey weapons, if you go to settings then controls I believe it will tell you there.
