Air Combat was a truly awesome game. Quite possibly the best of the old sims imo.

Odell Down Under was installed on all the computers at my Elementary school. That game was so hard.

From the second list I remember more. Captain Comic was one of my favorite games, though it frustrated me that there was no save system (that I could find at the age of 8 ). That and those bouncing beach balls always killed me. I still have a floppy of Math Blaster.

What about Troggle Trouble or Gizmos and Gadgets? I had a lot of fun with those educational games when I was little. DOS was pretty much all I had to play, while my friends had Nintendos and such. I would go on AOL and download all the games from their free DOS section.

Oh it was...oh man it was...

Actually, a lot of those games were garbage: Castle, Alleycat, Captain Comic, Falcon 3.0...I remember wanting to strangle myself in Alleycat everytime those stupid bulldogs got me in the house when I was trying to get the mice. Terrible.

I remember Cosmos Comic Adventure, played that alot. Same with the Falcon series, which I believe was on Mac as well.

How about a couple games from an old company named Access, they put out two excellent action adventure games called Mean Streets and Crime Wave. They were truly awsome games for their time.

Oh and how about Rise of the Dragon? Anyone? One of the greatest adventure games I have ever played ranked right up there with Sierra's lineup.

It's no wonder I got into PC Gaming, who wouldn't after playing all these games back in the day.

You're not old. I remember some of them however games like 'Maths Blaster'? - Is that some basic language game?

Anyway try these: StarRaiders, Miner2049er, Temple of Apshai, Wizard's Crown and of course any of the Ultima series. And believe it or not, I even rated them and gave it reviews.

Yeah, some of these are just more obscure than old I guess. I really want to find these games, but some are so old I can't even find record of them on the internet (like Castle and Dark Ages).

I actually watched this show on Discovery Science once where this guy claimed he invented a teleporter that could only teleport one photon of light at a time. Considering that's almost completely useless and he's probably lying anyway, I guess we'll just have to resort to scouring the internet for old games.

OMG!!!! So many great games.

I remember playing Crystal Caves, Police Quest... That was a great time for PC gaming. Lots of good quality games.

Does anyone remember:

Street Rod (I think this was the very first tune-your-car game)

Rick Dangerous

Blues Brothers

Titus the Fox

Wings of Fury

The Duel

Stunts

I remember on the Tronic (Arkanoid rip off that is actually much better than Arkanoid) shareware there was an ad for Titus the Fox. I downloaded a demo for it and you were in a spaceship throwing pizzas at enemies. Really weird.

For a few posts above... Jazz Jackrabbit! Maybe someday Epic will take a break from Unreal Tournament and release a new Jazz game. I was really sad when the Jazz 3D project was cancelled. Raptor Call of the Shadows is probably the best shooter on the PC, and Scorched Earth is of course a classic.

How about these:

Winged Warrior
Boppin'
The Neverhood (GameSpot did a horrible job on their review for this game)
Chips Challenge
Ken's Labyrinth
Clyde's Adventure (I could never beat this... the time limit always ran out before I could get to the end of level 1)
Xargon
Alien Carnage

Correct me if Im wrong. After reading this thread (again!!!), I read "Monuments Of Mars". I remember playing a game were you landed on Mars (in Cydonia to be more specific) and entered the Big Face on Mars to explore it. You had to solve the puzzles in order to advance to the next screen. That was Monument of Mars? Or Im just confused?????

Out of the OP's first two posts, I only remeber playing The Amazon Trail(a 68k Mac version back in elementary school)and Secret Agent(a game that's VERY similar to Crystal Caves). Another title of note that I haven't played in those lists is Falcon 3.0. Didn't this game require you to have a co-processor card to play with a high-fidelity model? In any case, I think I'll stick to my binder edition of Falcon 4.0 that I lifted off of eBay about a year or so ago. (Not that I'm any good at it, and that I don't have a TM HOTAS Cougar to play it with...) So, what flight sims did I play back then? F-15 Strike Eagle II and F-117 Stealth Fighter, both published by Microprose(remember that name?). Didn't use what most would consider a joystick, either-it was a weird beige stick with a narrow metal shaft going up to a plastic handle with a button right on top, and then there were two more buttons on the base. Wasn't any good at them back then, and I'm probably still not any good at flight sims in general now, but their mere mention just gives me an outright NOSTALGIA RUSH! Oh, wait, I somehow overlooked pre-3D Duke Nukem and Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure. Played a good bit of those, too...wait, weren't they published by Apogee? What a nostalgic name...I think I remember a few of their other titles: Hocus Pocus, Halloween Harry, Bio-Menace, Monster Bash, maybe Blake Stone...I wonder what happened to them. Of course, I don't have to mention that I played Commander Keen 4: Goodbye Galaxy! Everyone played that, right? Then there's all the Epic Megagames titles. Epic Pinball, Jazz Jackrabbit, Dare to Dream(and The Palace of Deceit as well, though that game was developed before CliffyB was hired by Epic; in fact, it's THE reason why he has a job at Epic!), Fire Fight...did they publish Zone 66 as well? What good times...though I can only wonder what the 1980s were like. (Only thing is, we wouldn't want to talk about 1980s PC gaming...Sure, Starflight released in 1986 on PC, at least two or three years before any other version, but the Amiga, Atari ST, and Mac versions all put the PC original to shame with improved graphics and a mouse-driven interface! The PC versions of early Ultima games(or at least Ultima IV without the VGA patch)didn't even have music at all! Speedball 2 has much better sound and music on an Amiga! But at least the PC versions of Lemmings turned out okay.) (And before you ask why I didn't mention Star Control II at all in my nostalgic phase, I only played it a few years ago in the form of UQM 0.4.0, not back in 1992 when the PC version originally released. Therefore, I don't get nostalgic feelings with it.)

It's very vague from what I remember, but it was a 2d platformer and you could see the whole level on the screen at once. There were all these traps everywhere and that's about all I can remember.

Oh yeah! I forgot that one...Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold. Great, great stuff. I remember playing that before or during the time of Doom. Probably before.

Also, on Tom Hall's (creator of Commander Keen) website, he says that if he ever got the rights to Commander Keen, he would make another one...

"I love Keen. Keen is basically me at age eight. The Green Bay Packer helmet, the red Converse sneakers, the dreams of space...If I ever got the rights again, I'd make Keen 3D in a heartbeat." -Tom Hall

How sweet would that be?

I've heard of a few of these games (the ones I didn't post), namely Jazz Jackrabbit, Leisure Suit Larry (awesome), and Rise of the Triad.

Have you ever noticed how ridiculously hard these old games were? Leisure Suit Larry actually had a pay-by-the-minute number you could call for hints (so did a lot of the other ones too). I tried playing it awhile back and I couldn't figure out anything. And of course, Corncob 3D was not only atrocious, but stupidly hard. At least, that's what I remember.

lol, the thing i remember most about Leasure Suit Larry was the questions it asked you in the begining of the game to make sure you were old enough to play it. My little brother and I would break out the encylopedia to answer them =) Here's a couple more oldies:

Syndicate Wars

Curse of the Azue Bond

Betrayal at Krondor

Wing Commander

Manhunter : New York

Mechcommander

Space Rangers? -- i don't remember exactly the name of this one, but i think this was it.

Kung Fu Louie

more to come...

Such good memories!

It's like if 1998 was just yesterday! I barely remember how was my life back in that year, and well it's kind of sad because I'm doing terrible in this decade since 2002 ended, hehah. Still, good games, and hope that the coming games stay true to their original roots. I mean in gameplay feel of course not technically.

Ahhh nostalgia.... how about the old infocom text-based games, like HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Leather Goddesses of Phobos, and more? I'm pretty sure you can play those all online - but boy are they HARD!

Besides those, some of my other fav's have already been mentioned, like Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry (the original, pre-VGA hah), Dragon's Lair (was INCREDIBLE technology at the time), Rise of the Dragon, Snatcher... ok so I'm old, so what? OH WAIT!!! I forgot Pogo Joe (on the commodore 64 - had it on data cassette, even... took forever to load a level - now the entire game is like a 10KB rom file!!)

I got a few people at school to start playing Zork. None of us were able to beat it. The HHGttG game is good too, though it is much harder than Zork as there are more ways to die. You are even more hopeless if you have not read the books.

I found it!!! Monuments of Mars was the game I was talking about

Heres the link for all of you

Whermacht02

Yup. That's it. Oh man that game was awesome.

lol, the thing i remember most about Leasure Suit Larry was the questions it asked you in the begining of the game to make sure you were old enough to play it. My little brother and I would break out the encylopedia to answer them =) Here's a couple more oldies:

Syndicate Wars

Curse of the Azue Bond

Betrayal at Krondor

Wing Commander

Manhunter : New York

Mechcommander

Space Rangers? -- i don't remember exactly the name of this one, but i think this was it.

Kung Fu Louie

more to come...

loafimus

I remember buying Wing Commander FOR someone, but I never played it. As for LSL:LLL, I remember I was only 3 or 4 when that came out and 6 or 7 when I saw my dad play it, and I didn't understand the humor. But I went back (now 22) and played it and damn it was funny.

At least, that's what I remember.

dnuggs40

Ya, Corncob 3d was stupid hard. I don't think I ever even got more the 5mins into it without dying. I wasn't even sure what the objective of the game was :P

Man...exactly what happened to me when I played it. Think I tried that one for a week until I gave up.

Rick Dangerous

Blues Brothers

Titus the Fox

Wings of Fury

The Duel

Stunts

Whermacht02

You're right about the difficulty, when I first played Battle City god was it HARD. I remember trying to get from levels above 10 and I was just getting destroyed. And I haven't been able to pass level 4-1 in Super Mario.

And when I first played C&C I didn't even knew what to do. Move this soldier, then... I had to repeat again and again until I could finally beat that level.
