Steam. Non-problem solved.I thought I would check Amazon for the heck of it. Pre-orders are up but the PC version is $60. Can BioWare be that serious? $60 is for Activision games.

If you don't want to pay $60, then wait to buy the game. I'm sure Steam will have it on sale eventually after a while.
[QUOTE="poseidonwest"]The Witcher is 50$. And that's a PC game tailored for PC gamers. ME3 is just a console port. If ME2 is any indication, then it's a bad console port. Where's the logic in that, i mean please show me. I payed 60$ for Starcraft II and I'm gonna pay those money for DIablo III. I would pay those money for DA : O too. As i said on release and as another user said, Demiugre studios did a much better port of mass effect 1 than bioware did of mass effect 2....the annoying thing is that gamedevelopers on pc, treat the pc versions with less and less importance as the time goes by, also they dare to release them for an increased price. Its like they dont care much about pc but also ask for more money. There could also be another reason though. That their pc sales dont do well, so they spend less time bothering with the pc version and charge more to make profit. It's pretty much the norm now for 60 dollar PC games.

its called inflation genius. get used to it, the rest of the world has been paying equvilent to 60-70 dollars US for a while now. get used to it or get a job. or rent it.
The only reason why games are 60 bucks on consoles is because of the extra licencing fees for using them. If this becomes standard for PC games I hope console games go to 70 bucks.
Drazule
Perfect example of the maturity of the pc comminity here, showing it has absoulutely nothing to do with money at all, and only has anything to do with feeling superior to other gamers.
I really don't like video games to cost $60.. it just seems like too much money to me. $40 I can deal with. $50 is too high as well, IMO.
However- I never pay full price for games anyways. You can go on amazon once a game has been released and find it well below the normal price almost without fail. Sometimes WAY below the normal price.
Also- I can justify paying $50 or $60 for a game that will give me 25-50 hours of enjoyment much more easily (like a Mass Effect game) than I can a game that will take me 5-8 hours to beat. It's criminal to charge $60 for many of these new games.. Black Ops, Force Unleashed 2, etc.. Games that you could sit down and start playing at noon, and have beaten before dinner. That's horrible value.

Funny you mention Black Ops not being worth $60. BO and BFBC2 were the only games I was willing to pay full price for this year. I'll end up at about 200 hrs on each before I get bored of them. I spend so much time on mp games its easy to wait on sp games to drop price. Although Activision is really stingy on the price drops. The official msrp on Singularity is still full price and Wolfenstein costs more than ME 2.This is how I feel regarding this subject. And the old old games that cost 60 bucks were for the cartridges because those actually cost something to make.

If you think 50$ is to much for a video game, then I would suggest finding another hobby.
Im starting to get sick of these $60 complaint threads... seriously, they can retail for $120 over here(not that you would ever pay that much) and 1AUD ~ 1USD.

I have seen this tendency for games on PC to be priced at 60 instead of 50, they just want more money.

Why would I do that when I can find all the games I want for less than $50?
I would have gladly payed 60 for the first two games, and will gladly pay 60 for Mass Effect 3. If a game is really good, I don't have an issue with that price, but most games aren't that good.
[QUOTE="devious742"]That's why the man is on Forbes. :D Yep..Company's like EA would never follow his strategy since they dont care about the PC market..They treat it as a console... EAs only response towards PC is F2P games..thats itWell it seems that EA still hasnt figuered out how the PC market works... I doubt that the pc version will sell alot under that price...EA is just following the Activision route.. They arent ramping up the price because they need it...far from it..its fueled by plain greed and idiotic marketing... I believe Gabe Newell explained it best--
[QUOTE="Quote"]
he showed how that combination of service and smarter pricing allowed the company to run experiments and make a lot more money -- competing quite successfully against piracy. The most stunning example: last weekend, the company ran an experiment with the game Left 4 Dead. It heavily discounted the price, and sales shot up 3,000%. And this wasn't just a case of building off a small base. The sales over the weekend were more than when the game launched.
In fact, it looks like a big part of the problem facing the industry is that they charge way too much for their products. Here are the numbers Newell shared from Valve's experiments with "sale" pricing:
- 10% off = 35% increase in sales (real dollars, not units shipped)
- 25% off = 245% increase in sales
- 50% off = 320% increase in sales
- 75% off = 1470% increase in sales

For those who say I'm a whinner, get to know me. I'm a college student WITH A FULL TIME JOB. I can't afford $60 games. Hell I'm lucky to be able to get a $50 game once a month. I have to rely on sales (www.cheapassgamer.com) Don't tell me to get a new hobby if I can't afford a $50 game.

You shouldnt' complain about the 60$ price tag if you can't even afford a 50$ purchase. Video games are an expensive hobby.

You can pick up L4D2 now for 5 $ and play it for 200 + hours , if that's your thing. The digital distribution buisness is booming, there are deals every day on various sites. And building a decent rig is not expensive. I'm sure it can be done for 400-500$ to play almost all games in high quality, except ofcourse some demanding PC exclusives.

OMG! I found Toy Story the movie in the iTunes store! First VHS then DVD now digital data for me.Oh yeah, digital distribution. There's nothing more satisfying then being able to connect with John Carmack to follow progress on a project then have the opportunity to instantaneously buy it a great price. However, I don't recall seeing this in the PC space, and generally the prices are not great at launch, lol...
[QUOTE="millerlight89"][QUOTE="Elann2008"] Yeah, devs need to the money. That's how I look at it.. I was paying $60 since the Super Nintendo days and I was like 7 years old. Saved money from allowance. :PGeneralShowzerYea, I mean back then you had games going for $100. People tend to forget it is getting more and more expensive to make games. If you (Not you specifically) don't think the Dev deserves it, wait for a price drop. Personally think ME3 is worth it, or at least I hope :P Console games are 10$ more expensive for a reason. Those 10$ go to MS/Sony. 10$ from PC gamers though go straight to the pockets of some CEO fatcat. Bioware is owned by EA. All money go to EA.So true. **** those greedy bastards, they gonna blame poor PC sales on piracy anyway.
Oh here is how i see it..
+10$ oh thats ok...its only $60
wait..later on...lets increase price +5$...now its $65...however its soo small who cares right?
down the line, +5$.....now games cost $70...see the trend here?
BUT ITS NOT OVER!
Lets charge ppl for extra maps and content we could had put in the game already and milk the consumer as much as possible! Yeah sounds like a great idea! Next thing you know we'll be paying around $100 for a single game.
Well, I draw the line at 60, and I never buy DLC. They'll just be shooting themselves in the head if they release PC games at $70.Oh here is how i see it..

I only mind this increase in price because there is an actual reason why console games are 10 dollars more. I am definitely willing to shell out 60 for ME3 but EA is being an **** by increasing the pc price....

Don't really agree with your comparison there :P Starcraft 2 not only has multiplayer, but the different challenges, mods and distinctly different races allows for much more fun than 15 hours :PBecause most people stick up for themselves when billionaires are trying to rip them off. Unfortunately - the people that don't have any self respect, ruin it for everyone else, by paying these ridiculous prices when the game is released. If everyone refused to buy these games at $60 - they couldn't charge that much. They would HAVE to lower the price.I really don't get why people complain so much when it comes to a $10 hike in price.

That is currently just a rumour, we do not know anything about Mass Effect 3 other than what was shown in the CG trailer. I can't believe some people are perfectly fine with us paying the same price as console gamers when there is a clear reason why console gamers have to pay an extra $10. I have no problem paying $60 for a game as long as the game is $70 for console gamers. As has been said dozens of times $10 goes straight into Sony/MS's pocket in the form of the royalty fee. The PC has no royalty fee so why should PC gamers pay the same price as console gamers when that extra cost does not exist for PC gamers ?
Then don't pay for it.JigglyWiggly_
This is exactly what I was thinking. Besides, I don't see how PC gamers buy games when they first come out, besides to support DEVs. I can't keep up with all the good games that are released. If I have other games to play, I can wait to get it when it goes on sell.

I wish people would get over this. I again revert back to how much money we have to pay here in Australia $79-$100. You're complaining about $10 - most of you would spend more on lunch. Isn't it enough that ME3 will have heaps of content?
Development costs are much higher then before. I think the 10$ price hike is justified.

Then why isn't the console version $70 ? I am all for increasing prices if it is justified but if you are asking a PC gamer to pay $60 for a game then surely it is just as expensive (if not more so with the cost of certification) to develop a game on the console. Now the console has EXTRA costs that the PC does not, there is a small matter of the console royalty fee which is around $10. There is no such royalty fee on the PC, so why are we now paying the exact same price as console users ?
I am not arguing against paying $60 for a game here, if it is justifed then so be it. What I am arguing about is the fact that PC games are now just as expensive as console games yet there is an obvious extra cost to console games that PC games do not have to cover. Most people seem to be totally neglecting this area of the argument, console games have always been $10 more expensive because of the console royalty fee. That is why I have an issue with paying the same price as console gamers

Just wondering: why does it have to be a royalty fee? Its no secret that games are more expensive to make because of how complex the technical aspects are now and how many more people are involved. Please Log In to post.
