Ok my friend wants me to build him a computer and these are his requirements. He doesn't really know much about computers so i told him i'd do it for him.

-Wireless Network Card/ Ethernet Hub

-Process: For some reason he says he'd prefer an AMD dualcore( know x2 means dualcore, but im just writing exactly what he wrote on the notecard) x2 64. Apparently his laptop is a "AMd 64" so... Yeah.

-At least 200GB Hardrive

-At least 3 Usb Drives for case

-Cd/dvd Write ( no duh)

-Videocard. He plays some games, but they aren't really graphically intense. He plays online flash games, and he has some Flight Simulators. Some games in specific that he plays are: Ea Sports Fifa 2009, Code of Honor 2, and Ea Sports Flight Stimulator from Ea Games. His moniter resolution is 1200 x 800.

Also he said he was going to buy Call of Duty, when i asked which one he said "The newest one" so i'm assuming COD4.

-Ram 4gb.

- A good keyboard/mouse. I'm assuming he means like something new, he doesn't mean like hardcore gaming mouses and stuff.

And most of the stuff he'll be using this for is his university studies and such.

Those are his requirements, he doesn't really care about everything else.

His budget is No More then $350.

Flight simulator? Sounds like he needs a quad core. With such a tight budget, a Athlon II x4 620 sounds plausible. For a motherboard, I would suggest that $55 Gigabyte AM3 mobo.

Other than that, a 9600GSO / 9600GT / 4670 should fit his gaming needs. Grab a cheap Antec / Seasonic / PCP&C 300W-380W PSU.

For all the others, just grab the cheapest components you can find.

I don't think he needs an quad, not sure though. Because the computer he plays it on ( laptop ) i think is a dual. And it's a laptop...

It would be wise to get a quad core rather than a duo if he's interested in flight simulators. I also don't see the relevance of his laptop being a duo core? We're talking about building him a new COMPUTER here, right?

I think I mentioned a $55 Gigabyte AM3 mobo. Sorry, I'm in a rush, you can search it for yourself, heh.

And yeah, that quad core should fill his needs. On the other hand, theres only SO much you can do with such a tight budget of $350.

I'm guessing you mean this http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.271179 . WHat's better this or the one above. And the one above only has 2 usb ports? He said he wanted 3. Does the description mean it has 2 other then the ones in the back?

Mhmm alright that's good. So that combo? Or the one with the Case? If the case, can you help me find a good mobo? I'll look for the 55$ one.

I think the mobo combo deal is a steal, and a very good deal (wasn't supposed to be a rhyme, but whatever :D )! You'll find some cheap case easily, it is much smarter to save on more important and expensive things.

Thanks but i think that is a little to high. Like the next Case is $50 Which owns, i can probably get a 30-40$ psu. ( Edit ocz's is usually at that ( 700W) every 2 or 3 weeks after rebate.

My choice would be 9600 because I know that it is a great card from a lot of experience. 4670 should be as good, but the lack of support for ATI in the majority of great games and terrible drivers make me opt for 9600. It comes down to your preference.

I mean performance wise. I just want him to be able to enjoy his games as much as possible and be able to play the games he listed with no problem at playable rates. And by the 9600 do you mean gso or gt?

9600GT. And what I said is performance wise, for him to avoid any slowdowns caused by bad optimization or drivers.

PS: If you can only spend a little more on the graphics card you could get an excellent 9800GT which would destroy all of those cards at a slightly higher price. Then he could really play COD5 and everything else comfortably. If you can, spend a little less on something else and get 9800.

PS: My two friends have 9600GT (2GB RAM, Athlon 5000+) and 9600GSO (Athlon 5600+, 2GB RAM), respectively. Both play Crysis at High and Prince of Persia comfortably. Imagine what you could do with 9800.

The only advantage of the first HDD you posted as I can see is silence. If you don't care about that, there is no reason to get it over the 320GB version. However the noise of the second HDD seems to be a bit higher, or at least that is what one reviewer said.

Well you can read reviews... Probably depends on a person that uses it. Some will notice, some will not. If he explicitly said he doesn't like noise, it is safer to get the 250 version.

Hey is this an upgrade to his current computer since you didn't mention a case and power supply?

$350 is a really tight budget.

Well even without the OS it's gonna be tight. He needs to go with a dual-core (athlon II 240)

I'm going to use xp, because he says he doesn't mind if it's xp or vista. That i can cover. The rest has to be at the budget of $350. So far i got: Quad/Mobo Combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.271179 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162007 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136098 Dvd/Cd Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030 Total price so far : 295 after Mail and rebate. We still need RAM, a Case and a Psu. And a Keyboard/Mouse.... Mhmm what should we change? Should we go down to the 9600 gso for $40? That'd be a $25 drop.

Thanks lol! And yes, dropping to GSO won't mean a drastic decrease in performance and you can get room for some peripherals.
