Nice!

Need for Speed Shift is a glorious return to greatness (and even excellence) for EA's seminal racing franchise. Slightly Mad Studios has delivered a driving experience that, while not completely accurate in terms of its simulation aspects, is practically dead-on in terms of what it's like to race around some of the world's best racing circuits. The career mode could (and should) have been a little better, but the act of driving is basically phenomenal.

Is it out for PC?

psn8214

According to GS, yes.

Hopefully it'll have good reviews all around and that it's actually a good game - in which case I might get it. I've been wanting a recent racer that's arcade mixed with some simulation since the last one I played was pure arcade (Burnout Paradise).

I wonder whether the car handling is better or worse than GRID's? From the IGN video review, I can't really tell whether the reviewer is a bad driver, or the cars have far too much tendency to drift around corners. He skidded at virtually every corner, sometimes even started skidding while accelerating on the straight. Seems a bit off. Also, I assume you can turn off those flashing arrows showing the racing line? Every piece of footage during the review had those annoying arrows.

GRID had horrible controls imo. Anyway hope this is a good NFS game, haven't played one of those since Most Wanted.

Really really really impressed by them according to the review it has a basic simmish feel to it, I love that. He said even hard core sim fans will like it(me). GTR2 and stuff is fun, but this is probably goign to have a more arcadey feel obviously, but that's fine... it will be more exciting :D

Did you read IGNs review? no story at all.

This is pretty much GTR 2 and Race 07 all over again. Same developer. If you played those games, with some GRID features, you know exactly what you're in for. Not the "usual" NFS experience.

I rather enjoyed dodging cop cars and ramming them in to passing traffic. I saw an ad for Shift and it looked really cool, but I don't like racing along the lines of GRID or Trackmania. My favorite racing game was burnout. It was just entirely too much fun to push other players into on-coming traffic and watching the wreckage in your rear view mirror. Normal racing is just so dull =/

Now this is surprising... I wasn't expecting more from this than Undercover, which was terrible in my opinion. But I'm glad we are having a decent NFS game after Most Wanted, or so it seems.

Waiting for a demo on this one. Seems nice but at the same time it seems so average. Racers need to start adding more interesting story or carreer modes.

finally the NFS franchise turns around! i dont care about the story (in racing games). it makes one wonder whether this is a better game than some of its predecessors because the devs concentrated on cars more than they did on girls. hmm...

Hopefully there is no rubber banding AI like all the previous NFS games (and like all the Midnight Club games). If there is not, then it must be an improvement.

This game was created by the same group of guys who worked on GT Legends - their motto for Shift was, made by drivers, for drivers.

The car handling is supposed to be fantastic (though I'll be the judge of that myself). The touted feature of this game (besides the realistic driving model) is the in-car graphics. The developer wanted you to feel like you're actually inside a car. Some of the screenshots I've seen provide evidence that they succeeded in this.

This game has nothing in common with any of the previous Need For Speed titles, except the name.

We need a demo, although based on what I've read, I'm prepared to put my money down (not right now, though - I've got Arkham Asylum and Resident Evil 5 and Majesty 2 on the cards... and FIFA 10 and PES 10 are right around the corner.)

EA press releae

"Fifteen years; more than 40 countries; close to 100 million games sold. Need for Speed™ has helped to define automotive culture for millions of fans with its embrace of the car life sty1e and its cool rebellious attitude. Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) unveiled the details of what is in store for the franchise over the next 12 months, as the property expands to new platforms, new categories and new media.

Blab Blab Blab.

Gamers can build up their boost as they drift and drag behind their opponents and use it strategically to change the course of the race, but watch out for the cops! Offering a fresh and unique visual **** the game features a variety of licensed cars which can be fully customized to let the game reflect the player's taste and personality. This evolutionary take on arcade racing, bringing back the best features found in Need for Speed games, comes exclusively to the Nintendo platforms this fall.

No, it's all professional racing. tbh I have a lot of skepticism for EA's claim that this is a racing simulation. I can't remember the last time I've played a NFS game with accurate car handling.

They're under the direction of senior people from EA Black Box (the makers of all the latest ricer racing games) so that doesn't help.

This title was made chiefly by the guys who worked on GT Legends.

When they were constructing the tracks they actually went to the real-world tracks and flew over them with helicopters and modeled the tracks based on real world data. Then they had professional drivers who had mastered the tracks act as consultants for the developers so that the nuances of each track could be programmed into the game - this included bumps on the tracks and even hills in the distance where the sun might shine.

I'd say that's pretty realistic.

Don't pay too much attention to something like that.
If you remember correctly, UbiSoft had a team of people flying into Africa for Far Cry 2. Judging from the reviews, that expedition didn't help the game much.

You don't seem to be aware that Far Cry 2 has an average of 85/100 (essentially 8.5/10) on Metacritic on all three platforms and was widely regarded as one of the best shooters of the year. I'm not sure what more you were expecting.
