Oblivion is an awesome game you people keep saying that there are no consequences wtf r u talking about there are consequences if you kill people you get arrested, if you join the dark brotherhood you get infamy and people won't like you, if you become a vampire people will not want to talk to you, if you join the fighters guild you get fame and people like you etc i could go on. I think the best decision that the developers made was the modding part it is so easy to mod and even easier to download and install a mod there is so much to do go out and explore cryodil.

And how do infamy and fame actually affect you? You can easily bribe everyone to like you. Is there anyone in Tamriel who doesn't like money? It's easy to see that you haven't played many real RPG's, if you call those consequences.

You don't even have to bribe anyone. A semi-decent personality and speechcraft skill will make every person in the game your best friend while they talk to you. That mini-game makes it uber-easy to win people over, stats have almost no say in this. In Morrowind you could actually talk yourself into even more trouble if your speechcraft was not high enough, this never happened in Oblivion. Consequences in Oblivion, lol.

In Witcher if you try to hit on a woman and act like a jackass, she won't even talk to you. The only time this happened in Oblivion was with one of the guys in Thieves guild, one of hundreds. I would not call Oblivion a game with consequences.

It's a major game from a major publisher. If a game site or magazine gives it a bad review then they might lose ad revenue. That or everyone who reviewed it never played Morrowind. ::shrugs::

Oblivion is terrible for too many reasons to name. Not only the game is broken at its core, but there's hundreds of other things wrong with it as well. Untill they come out with a mod that turns the game into Morrowind, I like to pretend it doesn't exist.

This game has gota be a bigger grind than WOW, aleast in WOW u get to fight some enemies whereever you go. In oblivion ur lucky if u get to fight one wolf on ur 10000KM trek to some distant land. The quests r also so boring and tedious. Jumping from town to town doing little lame quests which usually involve going to some other town to meet some guy. Once in a while u will get a quest which makes u say "wow that was cool" but that quest will only last a minute of so.

Dont get me started on the random bugs in this game. And yes ive noticed just TOOO many of them and they r soooo very annoying. Yes i do have the 1.2 patch. Ill tell u some really annoying bugs. you go to a town and the guard stops u and sends u to jail for stealing an item but the thing is I NEVER STOLE ANY GOD DAMN THING, will ends in me losing exp points. Another annoying bug is when u help some person out and he is very proud and happy with you when ur doing that close up talking thing but when u go out of it u see him as being angry with u and when u walk past him he says sumthing like "Never cross my path again". LIKE WTF IS UP WITH, DO ALL THESE CHARACTERS HAVE EXCESSIVE MOOD SWINGS?

The graphics r decent but not that great. THe lands and grass all looks so damn artificial. The only thing graphically impressive is swinging ur sword around and thats all. And yes iam playing it on very high with 4x AA.

All in All i would give this game an 7.5 the MAX

jayjayman

First of all man, you are talking about a game that came out a few years ago, nothing new. You will also tend to get more bugs with an open ended game that is so huge than you would in a linear one. Open ended games are impossible to fully test because the actions of the player are too unpredictable. As for the graphics being "ok" and the land looking fake, whatever dude. I think you are just trying to hate this game. Not everyone is going to like everything, but some people seem to go out of their way about it.

Everyone here needs to remember that there opinions of the game is subjective. I hate to say it but you have to look at the mass market. And guess what? Oblivion was very extremely popular, moreso than any of its predecessors. What does that tell you? Even with all its flaws it is still a very successful game that thousnads upon thousands of people enjoyed. Why is this? Cause its pros beat its cons.

You cannot deny that.

TC is right the npc kinda emo i did nothing and he/she just pissed at me.

and btw the graphics isnt bad for that year u cant compare it with crysis or some lastest game.but the environment is great.

theres many thing to explore in oblivion.i think ur just trying to hate this game and what other games have hours of gameplay?

Oblivion has loads of quests, lots of dungeons to crawl, lots of loot to sell, loads of weapons and spells.

because its a good game that kept you hooked (it got me hooked). you could play it little bits at a time and have lots of stuff to do. i did think the plain oblivion was a bit bland but after installing Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul it completely changed the game from quite good could have used a bit more enemies and such to making the experience a lot better. thats why it was rated so high because the possibilities in this rpg are not limited.

Oblivion is a good RPG..... I didnt like it as much as MOROWIND, but its still alot of fun.

The only thing i thought could have been better in Oblivino was the story, i didnt find it all that good. Other then that i enjyoed the game!

Yeah, I've played a little more of this, and the randomized loot is annoying, but it's not a deal breaker. I like the action-based feel of it. I could see it getting old by game's end. I don't think you can completely write it off though. Bethesda tried something different, and it worked for a lot of people. What I'd really like to do is have two playthroughs, one with and one without mods. Still, it seems like a lot of the mods are just trying to make it into Morrowind. I guess that's fine. I'd kind of like to see a second Morrowind. I'm not sure if the new direction should be dismissed out of hand though. I'll have to see how old it gets having scaled encounters and random loot when I'm half way through the game. Not that Morrowind was perfect. Trying to find a GD quest mob or NPC for an hour got pretty doggone old. Sometimes reading a strategy guide or a FAQ couldn't even help you find stuff. That alone is probably why I never beat it.

It's rated high because it made the engrossing world of Tamriel available to a larger market. It was more user friendly, had more servicable graphics (glitches withstanding), and a more streamlined action feel.

I loved Morrowind to death, more than Oblivion, because of the deeper playing experience, but that game was also extremely buggy and threw you into the world with very little help or explanation. People not well versed in games got frustrated and simply quit (I know of many who did). Oblivion was more welcoming to those just starting. Ultimately, this made it a less "hardcore" game, but it made the fun accessible to a new audience.

I still loved the game for the 100 hours I was engaged in it, and now I have friends who have been able to experience the Elder Scrolls world through a more accesible medium.

Ultimately, it is just a game, meant for you to have fun, experience and new world, and then leave. It's not the next "hardcore" PC game, destined to dethrone WoW or NWN. Nevertheless, it is still an experience fully worthy of its accolades.
