1. By Q4 2007 (Xmas) NVIDIA will be releasing their GeForce 9800 series GPUs.
Unlike previously expected the codename for nVidia's next generation GPU will NOT be "G90" but instead be "G92".

I have some info form NVIDIA insider about the upcoming G92 graphics processors.

G92 will be released in November 2007 timeframe in the form of "GeForce 9800" series.

"G92" GeForce 9800 GTX specs.

- 65nm process technology at TSMC.
- Over one billion transistors.
- Second Generation Unified Shader Architecture.
- Double precsion support (FP64).
- GPGPU native.
- Over one TeraFLOPS of shader processing power.
- MADD+ADD configuration for the shader untis (2+1 FLOPS=3 FLOPS per ALU)
- Fully Scalar design.
- 512-bit memory interface.
- 1024MB GDDR4 graphics memory.
- DirectX 10.1 support.
- OpenGL 3.0 Support.
- eDRAM die for "FREE 4xAA".
- built in Audio Chip.
- built in tesselation unit (in the graphics core"
- Improved AA and AF quality levels

Pros.

65nm process will allow for better yields and better power consumption. power consumption will be lower than that of a GeForce 8800 GTX.

GeForce 9800 GTX will be over two times faster than a GeForce 8800 Ultra in real world games and applcations.

Release date : November 2007. There will be TWO products at launch: The flagship GeForce 9800 GTX and the second fastest GeForce 9800 GTS.

price for the GeForce 9800 GTX will be 549-649 USD.

price for the GeForce 9800 GTS will be 399-449 USD.

This isnt official.. its not even a proper article!

Its just a post in a forum.. I could make this up my self and random people would believe what I say.. at least wait for some kind of official release before shouting "Official Specs!!1111"

I am sooo gona get this card. OMG. CANT WAIT. Gona sell my 8800 GTX and go for this beauty. Hope it wont cost over 800$. Till i hopefullly get this beauty no Vista or DX10 for me. Hell G80 doesnt even have AA through shaders and tesselation unit. Cant wait. You sure they are aiming for Xmas??

EDIT: Are you sure going to need new mobo whit PCI-E 2.0 support. I heard that PCI-E 2.0 cards will work on usual PCI-E slots too. And do you think thatifigetthiscardC2D will be bottleneck???

Yeah.. a google search just gives me a load more forum posts.. not a single remotely official looking article that directly relates to this.

Maybe these facts are right, but on the other hand you shouldnt just go believing everything you see on the internet...

I believe PCI-E 2.0 will be backwards compatible...

In reality, most CPUs will bottleneck powerful GPUs, such as an 8800GTX. This is because GPUs are incredibly powerful these days, producing way too much information for the processor to er.. process. Its OK though, because the bottleneck doesnt really have any negative effect - you can still max out any game on that rig right?

Yeah. That probably means you will be able to put 4xAA on whitout loosing a performance.

Yeah. I meant if i will be able to run PCI-E 2.0 card like G92 on PCI-E slot?? Not if PCI e 2.0 will be able to run 1st PCI-E.

Then could you turn on 8xAA with the performance hit of 4x? Or wouldn't it be cool if they sold a higher end g92 with more edram for like 24xAA with no performance hit.

PCI-E 2.0 most likely will be backward compatible much like the whole USB interface. USB 2.0 fits into USB 1.1 slots but the slots lower the 2.0 speed back to 1.1 speed. Therefore while the card will be extremely powerful (does "extremely" properly define it?) the original PCI-E 2 will just be slowed down by PCI-E 65nm = lower power consumption than 8800 GTX, now I regret buying a 600 watt PSU. Oh well more power = better safe than sorry.

I heard that PCI-E 2.0 isnt much about more performance but about saving some power. ThatIMO means that ifyou will run 9800 GTX on 1.0 slot you will have to have more power to feed 9800GTX. Nothing about performance.

I dunno but standard PCI-E wont bottleneck the card.

Like I said earlier.. most recent GPUs are bottlenecked by the processor but it is not important - enough information is still being processed for the game to run smoothly.

It would have to be an extremely powerful CPU to allow absolutely no bottlenecking in a card such as an 8800GTS, let alone the 9800GTX, (if these specs are true, which I doubt!).

My best guess is for hardware HDMI support.

There'd have to be something to generate audio data in order to fully be able to take advantage of the benefit HDMI has over DVI.

PCI-E 2.0? You've got to be ****ing ****ting me.

I bought a 6800GT AGP about two weeks before PCI-E came out.

I just bought an 8800 GTX about a month ago and again it looks like I'm going to have to upgrade my whole system to upgrade my videocard when it comes time again.

That pisses me off so much....

good thing i didnt buy a 8800GTX. I took someones advice of ," Buy one generation, skip the next." I have a 7600GT, skip the 8xxx line, jump into 9xxx Line Edit: By the time that comes out, The Quad core prices should go down a bit, than will be a good time for a big upgrade.

So do we know for sure that it will release in November? Cause if it does I'll wait a bit before ordering my GTS and therefore still be applicable for the step up program when it releases.

hm, i don't think im ready to spend that much for a card that's sure to be bottlenecked by my current system, and by the time i can get hardware that DOESNT BN it, it will have dropped in price or else ATI will have something better/cheaper

Great, now I'm being tempted to wait until November to dump that 2000 US$ on a new PC. Hopefully, the Q6600 will have dropped back down to 266-300 US$ and be available in the G0 stepping, as well as Intel X38 motherboards and the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude being out on the market by then. But about that built-in audio chip-it had better not prevent me from allowing the use of an external sound card to be routed into the HDMI signal. I want my EAX 5.0! Also, the hardware tesselation support is starting to remind me of the TRUFORM chip in the Radeon 8500. Why are they just now deciding to bring such a feature back? And on another note, I hope that no one mistakes this for the good old Radeon 9800 line, both having the same number and all. (In other words, be sure to say "GeForce 9800" rather than just "9800", unless it ends in a "GTS", "GTX", or "Ultra" instead of a "Pro" or "XT" so that I know which one you're referring to.) EDIT: Wait a minute...DirectX 10.1? OpenGL 3.0? What's going on here?

hmm, i heard that the 9800gts is gonna be midrange tho and that the gtx will be the only high-end card. its funny cuz most of the features that this card has (scalar, aa through shaders, tessellation), the hd2900xt already has. i guess i'll just sell my 2900xt in december when this comes out. i might get the gts if its around the same performance. no surprise that MS has already created a new revision of dx10 without releasing any games for the first version lol.

how can we believe that this is credible?! There are no sources, its just something someone posted! dx10.1? does that mean all dx10 cards are obsolete now? I also heard that the 9800 series will fill in the gap between 8600 and 8800
