Alot of you probably already know for a fact that PC gaming isn't going extinct but every now and then you'll come across a funny type of signature that'll predict "the end of PC gaming" or other equally dumb comments. Are these ppl seeking atention or do they want to get the glory when competitive, professional gaming ACTAULLY ends. I don't think I've ever seen Fatal1ty play on an Xbox 360, or at least not seriously.
Here are some reasons why PC gaming ISN'T going to end-
-There is way too much money to loose. If PC gaming comes to an end almost every computer hardware and alot of software manufacturers will be affected. Just a few would be: Nvidia, AMD, Intel, Microsoft, Antec, Thermaltake, Asus and especialy Zalman. Asus, Nvidia and Ati have supported alot of gaming developers, including Ati for Half-Life 2 Episode 2.
-Microsoft making alot of Xbox exlusives (such as Fable 2, Gears of War 2 and Halo 3) is another reason that PC gaming isn't coming to an end. If gaming were to cease on PC, the dent in Windows sales would be so big it would be funny. They would lose almost all their gaming customers and of the amount left alot would make the switch to the free, more user friendly (debatable) Linux. So, if there was a threat to gaming on PC Microsoft would do ANYTHING to save it. It would be in their best interest to keep PC gaming alive. Microsoft making Xbox exlusives is a sure sign that they know PC gaming is fine where it is, the only threat to them, at the moment, is the PS3 and Wii.
-If pirating was such a big issue Eastern European developers would start making less PC exclusives and more games for consoles. Their investments seem to be fine where they are and they will continue to make games like ArmA II and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat for PC and PC only.
-There are so many gamers playing MMO's on PC that if there was a switch it would be so dramatic that very few ppl would survive. Imagine the WOW survers getting shut down. Ppl would stop dying from playing 50+ hours straight and start dying from going without. Imagine that, they come out from their various attics and sun starved rooms. They'd die after 15 hours of exposure.
-Games like Crysis would never be seen agian, graphics would end up being upgraded only every generation. A lot of hype would be lost.
Bottom line developers aren't selling games because entertaining ppl and keeping them happy makes them feel good about themselves. They do it for money and a fair amount of that is made off of PC gamers. Not to mention almost all profesional gaming is done on PC. PC gaming ISN'T going to end.
I don't think you'd be considered bright if you tried to predict the end of PC gaming, you may just end up standing there awkwardly.
P.S. Anyone who's also waiting for the release of Call of Pripyat say "I".
