Steam
D2D for us Australians is a pain due to alot of games on their site are only for US/Canadian residents only, while steam, having some of the same games dont have that problem.
That and its SO much easier to buy off steam, more convenient aswell due to i can download the games through my ISP at a faster download rate rather through D2D and also it wont count towards my download limit what is great also.
You don't have to be online to use Steam...D2D or Gamersgate.
I have steam but I don't like to buy through them if I can avoid it. I dislike the fact that I have to be online to use my games and I also don't like Steam tracking my usage.

But you don't need anything running in the background to use d2d...d-rtyboyI do not understand what this matter.
I dislike the fact that I have to be online to use my games bogatymy DSL was down for 3 days (February snowstorm)... no problems playing Steam games in 'offline mode'.
I prefer to buy hard copies of games, but I use Steam a lot for older games and when games are cheaper. They have some ridiculous sales some times. I got Borderlands for $25. I've never used D2D.
I love both, but I use Steam often because I play Team Fortress 2 everyday. D2D is also great because I just bought Grand Theft Auto IV for 7.95$ today and that's is the lowest I've seen it.
Yea that is an excellent price. D2D has some great deals at time. Enjoy!I love both, but I use Steam often because I play Team Fortress 2 everyday. D2D is also great because I just bought Grand Theft Auto IV for 7.95$ today and that's is the lowest I've seen it.

Only Steam so far. D2D hasn't had anything that is cheap enough for me to warrant buying it. I don't trust them (IGN) as much as I do Valve. Valve did say that if they go under then they will release a patch to free all games from Steam DRM. Under the D2D Terms and Conditions they say they reserve the right to shut down D2D service and therefore your account and games in the process at whatever time they want with no consequences. Screw that.DasVolks
I hold the opposite view. I like the fact that I am able to download the installer from D2D and burn it to DVD, thereby not having to worry about issues of the plug getting pulled.
Valve has, in the past, deleted a user's account, thereby voiding all games purchased through Steam. Some of the questionable bannings concern posts made on Steam forums that the Valve mods don't care for and. even more troubling, banning of accounts where more than one user is logged on. For people playing over unsecure wifi like at a college or a dorm building, account hijacking is not uncommon but Valve doesn't seem to keen on the "due dilligence" when it comes to investigating such incidents.

Well I don't play on unsecure networks and don't do anything fishy on my account, so I have nothing to worry about.
You can download on Steam and back it up to a DVD as well. Also, I've heard about a program that allows you to remove the Steam DRM from their games so you don't have to launch Steam to play.
You can't be banned for being on the account in more than one place, just sayin'...

Same. I use both, but 95% of use is Steam. It is because Steam is basically its own platform with integrated friends list, auto updates, achievements, etc...
I forgot about the auto-updates. That's another thing I dislike about Steam. Some updates cause mods I'm using to cease working properly. If I want to update my game, I prefer to do it myself, not have it forced on me by Steam.
[QUOTE="d-rtyboy"]But you don't need anything running in the background to use d2d...millerlight89I do not understand what this matter. It matters a lot to me, since my college severely limits Steam's internet usage, especially the logon process. Sometimes it takes 2 hours + just to log onto the client. Offline mode is not viable for Valve games that I want to play online. I'll admit Steam is great when I'm off-campus. However, it is complete and utter bull that I am so severely limited in my ability to play some of the games that I buy for no reason other than that they require an unnecessary program to be running in the background, so I'm going with D2D.

Games on D2D usually just use a key(often validated through the same service as retail games) and are not tied to your account. Once you enter your key the game requires nothing else to run. You can save the downloads and key yourself so once the game is downloaded once you never have to go through D2D again.
I think they are equal, but I voted for Steam because I have only bought downloaded games from them. I haven't used D2D, but I can see the advantages. The thing is I like the "cloud" nature of Steam. I like being able to uninstall any of my games and not worry about where the disks are or saving a CD key. With Steam it's all automatic. You just need to know your login info (of course, the internet connection also).

So can I take the CD-key given to me by D2D and actually add the game to my Steam account?[QUOTE="ProudLarry"][QUOTE="bogaty"]You don't have to be online to use Steam... Yes, you have to.D2D or Gamersgate.

You can set it to not auto-update games.
honestly i like purchasing thru D2D, cause i can install most of the games on both my partner, and my own pc... if we only want to do it singleplayer/or LAN.. (for MP online we have to buy 2 copies, most of the time)
Steam doesn't allow this near as easily.
Not that I dislike Steam, I have many games thru and from there, but I just like the Ease of D2D better.
Yeah, D2D in Brazil sucks. Almost every game is US and Canada onlySteam
