4gb... its all you need in this era unless you run multiple servers off your pc. I hate seeing 6gb and 8gb of ram... its such overkill for absolutely no reason.
well, not really, for triple channel DDR3 memsticks, 6GB of ram seems to be the sweet spot right now...4gb... its all you need in this era unless you run multiple servers off your pc. I hate seeing 6gb and 8gb of ram... its such overkill for absolutely no reason.

Currently on 12 GB of RAM. I couldn't resist the triple channel 12 GB Corsair Dominator kit on sale, so I picked them up graciously. I never go above 30% RAM usage according to Vista lol.
Guys... look at his computer's specs... he doesnt really need 4gb or more, his other hardware might bottleneck it.bluebusinessHe's asking for how many gigs are in YOUR pc, not how many he should get. I have 8gbs in mine....it was too inexpensive to pass up, not that I need it.
i use 2gb for xp but once windows 7 comes out ill upgrade to at least 6(2x2gb and 2x1gb). ive noticed sometimes where 2gb isnt enough anymore but ill wait for the new os since i like windows 7 a lot
you're talking only about gaming. 8gb isn't an overkill for modeling and animation apps.4gb... its all you need in this era unless you run multiple servers off your pc. I hate seeing 6gb and 8gb of ram... its such overkill for absolutely no reason.

Nobody else has 12 GB? 12 is such a lonely number...

Don't think many people are on triple channel yet.

you're talking only about gaming. 8gb isn't an overkill for modeling and animation apps. Yea i have 6gb myself because members of my family use autodesk maya but for gaming 4gb is enough.Suppose the people with 8gb of ram aren't trying to overclock?muirplayermine is prime stable at 3.85ghz but then again empire total war crashes on me sometimes but i have no idea whether its a problem with my OC or its in the game itself. P.S. does anybody know if a computer can be prime stable but not be game stable?
You think that now, but I should point out that at one point, people thought anything above 640 KB of RAM was overkill. Software is going to get even more bloated, and there's nothing I can do about it other than to prepare for it beforehand. Anyway, my flagship desktop runs 8 GB and my TC1100 is maxed out at 2 GB. The other computers aren't worth talking about since they all have less than 1 GB. While it's tough to actually fill up that 8 GB of RAM in my desktop, that's kind of the point-having more RAM free than needed so that everything stays responsive, no matter how many browser tabs or applications I have open at any given time. Also, if I decide to fire up a few virtual machines, I can give the guest OSes plenty of RAM without crippling the host OS in the process. *looks at sig* Whoa, forgot to update that!4gb... its all you need in this era unless you run multiple servers off your pc.
