To those who have it you can now preload it. I already did and finished it so I'm ready for October 1st. I will also download the 360 version and take screen captures with my Roxio for how well it looks, though not sure about doing the PS3 version. This would also be a nice thread to discuss the beta as well, and here's some info from here:

User-added imageThe Battlefield 4 Beta is a chance for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 players not only to get an early glimpse of Battlefield 4, but also for us to run some tests and make some changes in preparation for when Battlefield 4 goes live October 29th.

  • The beta is an early, test version of Battlefield 4. Players should expect to run into in-game bugs, connection problems, and other common beta issues.
  • If you run into a problem, report it on the beta forums so we can work it out!

User-added image
The beta will be open to all comers, on all platforms, in every language the full game will be released in.

  • Earn Battepacks containing a combination of new weapon accessories, dog tags, knives, XP boosts and other customization options to load out your soldier.
  • Continue the fight in the Siege of Shanghai, complete with full Levelution in both large and small Conquest modes, as well as Domination.
  • Commander Mode will be unavailable during the beta, but lucky, eagle-eyed players might catch a glimpse of DICE employees as Commanders on live servers.
User-added image

Some players are able to jump in a few days early--if they meet certain criteria--while the full, Open Beta launches on October 4th.

  • Below you can find a rundown of how to access the beta and when:

I'm curious to hear how the commander works and if it helps add purpose and cohesion to battles.

Also if hit detection has been improved so those frustrating 'insta-deaths' from BF3 are gone.

I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a Battlefield man can feel, a man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it without Caspian Border. I hope to see my friend and communicate with him using VOIP. I hope the Huangpu River is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

Let us know how it is everyone tha tis playing in the closed beta.

I just ordered the normal edition so I wont be trying the beta till the open beta starts.

Interested to see how the game turns out, if they can improve the netcode and a few other things from bf3, this could be a ton of fun.

Yeah the netcode is great in BF3, but it could always use more work. Lower latency. Less server lag. Even though I have great internet.

It can look very similar to BF3 at times just shinier. But they reworked the net code apparently and changed how the hit detection works. they also changed around the hit boxes to do more obvious damage to different places like legs have far less damage than chest shots and now there's armor to beef up your chest hit box etc etc.

The tweaked ballistics too and the balancing of weapons. Guns are far more varied now instead of a lot of guns blending together and being similar. LMGs have way more recoil but have a hugher suppression effect. Where as assault rifles are tighter firing but offer less suppression.

Suppression itself was reowrked where in close quarters it doesn't effect you at all anymore but will at longer ranges depening on the guns.

The destruction has also been overhauled it would seem and with the levolution stuff like collapsing ceilings and blocking off pathways, turning off lights etc.

It's a lot of fine little nitty gritty details but ones that should make the game play much better

Not sure how many people know this, but BF3 actually had a 0.9 damage multiplier for leg shots.

Hopefully suppression is better now, I was playing TDM earlier and it can be so frustrating

Cheers, lack of teamwork and wonky hit detection/damage were my biggest problems with BF3 and it sounds like these have been looked at.

BF3 left such an awful taste in my mouth that I probably won't pre-order but I'll try the open beta and listen to what people have to say once it comes out. Mechanically BF3 did some things very well so I hope they manage to release something that has more personality and caters less to the sprinting-around-hip-firing-a-smg crowd that seemed to exist within BF3.

i think i should've been clear with the fact that i'm a very big fan of the series and--despite the 'changes' made to each release from 1942, to 2, to 2142, etc.--have stuck with the series, highly anticipating each release, 4 included. i don't want perfection, but that seems like an awful lot that could go wrong. please explain how it is a good idea to beta test this close to release, mr. software engineer. i feel that the timetable does not allow a good cushion for developers to polish the final product. they couldn't do it for bf3, with a much larger gap between beta and release. i'll reiterate that i'm a huge fan and will enjoy it regardless, but i'm not sure they're fully dedicated to 'taking call of duty down' if they're taking chances at releasing another semi-polished title.

what have they changed? Im not trying to sound skeptical but I haven't followed the game very closely. From what little I have seen it looks extremely similar to BF3 in most ways.

I remember hearing suppression was mainly an LMG/support class thing, and was vastly reduced for other class types/weapons

I can see teamwork being better but not as good as it was in BC2. it's still gonna be a lone wolf type of game like BF3 was where you COULD do teamwork if you wanted. Especially evident by the fact they didn't switch classes towards teamwork, they switched them towards mobility and solo play.

Assault still has med packs, support has a mobile mortar, recon now have C4 as well as support. I'm not sure how the class balance is gonna work yet but I don't see the game having more teamwork. The only thing they did towards team work is field upgrades which are kinda confusing and hard explain.

What I do like is having a small and large med pack that heal at different rates as well as quick revives not yielding 100% health but you have to charge the paddles to get 100%

That's exactly how it is. LMGs have the biggest supression and so do snipers I think but there's is more of a ranged supression per target where as support is sort of an area effect if they have covering fire

Supression in close quarters (<15M I think) is completely gone. So no more missing sniper shots at 5 feet away. Shooting is far more skill based now it would seem

It was a badly needed change as supression was one of the biggest talking points and the biggest controversy of BF3. It was a good idea terribly implemented

Also another thing people should know that may have been overlooked is there is a staggered reload system. You can now start a reload, switch weapons and fire and then switch back to whatever part of the reload you were in. You don't start reload animations from the start every time

You don't think having a commander will help with teamwork? I know that a lot of BF players probably just want to run around and kill things but I'd hope having a commander giving out orders to squads might at least add some cohesion to the battle.

I found it profoundly frustrating playing BF3 and playing to win the game while everyone else was trying to improve their K/D ratio or get a specific ribbon. I fear it will be even more of a problem for me coming from Rising Storm where teamwork is pretty common and you are doing things with purpose rather than just running around looking for action. I find that style of multiplayer to be a special blend of boring and irritating.

commander is gonna be great, especially since the commander, unlike BF2, is not on the field with everyone else.  BF2/2142 commanders often chose the role to help themselves in battle, not the army
