I think you might be underselling your PC... Just a bit. I use to have that CPU and it OC'd like a boss. 3.4GHz (from 2.66) on stock voltage. Had an 8800 too, but mine was only a GT. Your 2GB RAM would be a bottleneck, though. Add another 2GB.*sigh* I really want a new computer. Half sarcasm. I also looked at benchmarks of the new 6970, and the GTX 580, and my vid card was far and away dead last in every test. So was my CPU.

Well you have dated hardware, but to call it garbage is a bit extreme if you ask me. No matter how old it gets, I will never consider the 8800 gtx garbage. Nor would I consider a C2D garbage.[QUOTE="Hellsing2o2"][QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"] Sarcasm...? I'll take it.millerlight89

Would make a good tf2 server. And i want the case. so up the offer I go .50cents.Lol, just so you know that I was playing Black Ops with 8800gts a week ago and it plays fine. Just add 2gb of ram if your feeling iffy with the setup, thatll give it new life just like it did to mines.
Man I hate this!
I just got this X58 mobo with 920 Intel CPU... now I need a new mobo for sandy bridge doesn't work with 1366 socket!
It only has 4 cores... high end will get 6 cores but no GPU... euhhhhh.

There's no point in upgrading from an i7-920 to a Sandy bridge chip. I'd say that if you had a Core 2 Quad or weaker, than it would be worth it. Otherwise, it's not.

The fact that they'll stop supporting a socket doesn't really matter once you've already obtained a CPU and board for that particular socket. It's not as if there still won't be boards for the socket available on the market, if you decide to get a new one.

Ah, okay.
Have we really seen what AMD is bringing to the table? Im really impressed with these chips, but I would actually like to see if AMD's new chips can exchange blows with these?

If AMD's chips won't be able to exchange blows with these in terms of performance, you can be sure that they'll be able to do so in terms of prices.

To be honest I have NO idea how much of their sales comes from gaming systems. I mean they probably sell a LOT more general user components, but obviously they make less profit on those.[QUOTE="Daytona_178"][QUOTE="Marfoo"] Well, they are bringing back "FX", so someone in AMD must be impressed with Bulldozer. That's interesting about kiling sockets. I always seem to buy new MBs with new a processors. I'll give you though that 775 has been around a very long time and I may have made an exception but I got into that socket late. Of course I rarely just upgrade unless something like my video card just craps out. I usually just build a new rig. It seems that the timing of this new hardware works out for me.:)
Meh I just built a rig with a Phenom II 955, hoping it will last me atleast 3 years:? I'll try to resist the temptation, hopefully AMD comes out with something that can compete, and hopefully I can just upgrade my cpu and keep the rest of my components. I read that the future AMD cpu's will be compatible with current AM3 mb's.

I thought they would be AM3+ and therefore not compatible. :?

So what about the DRM and the killswitch? are those things even real ?Solid_TangoThe DRM thing is just a unique serial number on the processor that will allow you access services certain content providers, not to block you from doing anything. The killswitch is also real and it's more of a data security feature for perhaps government use. It could be used if the CPU sees it's being tampered with to shut down the system to avoid further tampering.

How would it be useful for government use? If some one is truly trying to steal something, they will just steal the data or HDDs, whether or not the CPU is working. If a government laptop goes missing, this killswitch is not going to help. I can only see it working for offsite thefts, but that is what a fire wall is for, not cripplig a computer....
Well aparently the DRM only apllies to Intel Insider or whatever, which Im am fine with, because I would never use it. What scares me is:
a) They can implement such a system along with a wireless kill switch. -It only takes one rotten Intel imployer for the killswitch to go badly wrong. Or some kid hacking Intel...
b) If they can implement such a system, what will they do next with it? Any potential sales they might lose out on, could be offset by companies paying Intel to add a wider DRM to cover their products...
if sandy bridge was compatible 1366, I would of replaced my 920. I guess I'll skip this one...
Bebi_vegeta
As said before numerous time, this is the right choice. There is no reason for upgrading if you already have an i7....
That is unless your trying to do some MASSIVE number crunching to find the meaning of life or something. I will save you the money and the time. Its 42 :P

Yap bulldozer will be on AM3+ but the board will also be fully backward compatable with older AMD CPU's which is nice and will allow folks on budgets to consider upgradability to pc... Bulldozer should be nice.. Now that AMD will finally get all the instruction sets (or almost all) as Intel including SSE4.1 and 4.2.... performance should be pretty good. The question will be if AMD chips will be able to do some extras well like instant 2 core boost to some crazy lol ghz range or have great architexture... Personally, i'm thinking bulldozer will lag behind intel (offcourse) but price will be very nice with a motherboard that will not be expensive (80-180 dollars from budget mobo to high end I say).
I love the fact that the Am3+ board will be backward compatable... It allows me a base of scalability on he rig I have now... I have 0 intention of upgrading in a year or even 2 or 3 but when that time comes, I will have the option to do a slow upgrade (mobo and keep all parts followed by cpu years later) which won't hurt the pocket as much.

Haha, you sound paranoid. If Intel screws up we'll all just buy AMD. If they both screw up maybe VIA will rise to the occasion. Consumer controls the market, don't like it, don't buy it. The company hurts and is forced to change.how about a q6600...issit worth to upgrade an i5 2500k?....and if i plant to upgrade my graphic card to GTX 580?
