In this age of console games being ported to PC, often lazy ports, I think it would be nice if we got a PC exclusive that gets ported to consoles at a way later date. Something like how LA Noire was first released for the consoles but later it was finally ported to the PC at a full price of $50. So what say you? Should HL3 be a PC exclusive?

I doubt it would PC exclusive, but it would definitely be a PC game that's ported to consoles since this is Valve we're talking about.

No chance. We saw that Portal 2 was console-code ported to PC. I think that points to the direction Valve is taking.

Say hello to crappy controls and sub-par visuals! :P but really it'd be nice if Valve would focus on PC because it's pretty clear console gamers aren't crazy about valve products (unless it's L4D).

Minus the sarcasm, this is probably somewhat the truth. It's so easy to pirate PC games and most people who are nerdy enough to customize their PC are also nerdy enough to figure out how to pirate games, and they will just spend more on hardware upgrades and less on software because everyones on a budget and the gaming industry has a strong pressure to push users to high spec components.

Nah , why ?

They should at least max out the potential of PC version (dx11,dlc, etc...) though.

I would say yes but Valve might disagree. I wont worry too much about it though. So far they've given the PC far more love even with console releases. Plus they arent children like the people at Bethesda whining about how hard it is to make games for the PC. They dont want to innovate - they want to make money of DLC. Anyway - yes, Ill be getting Skyrim on PC and yes they are a good dev but they're being stupid and dumb these days and should grow up. Need to grow that respect rather than running their mouths.

Doesn't really matter if it's exclusive or not. In reality, there's no incentive for developers to do that. However, it should be ported to consoles, and not the other way around.

I think it should be a PC Exclusive then a console port should be released a few months after. This should ensure that the real platform gets the attention it deserves.

It shouldn't be any kind of exclusive, like the updated HL 2 was console exclusive for years till they finally went and made the PC update + achievements.

That's not what he asked.

Also I think it should be multiplat as long as its treated as PC as its main platform and treated like the other half life games. As long as it doesn't detract form its quality I have no problems. But I have fear about the game because I don't think it will meet expectations when its finally released

From a developer's point of view, no. Why would I limit my money-making potential?

But, I'd make the PC the lead platform with all the bells and whistles and then scale it down accordingly for the consoles.

I don't care if it's an exclusive or not, as long as the PC version is good (it should be the superior version), then I'll be happy.

Yes. I want state of the art graphics, physics. You won't get that with the consoles, unless they focus on the PC first and then dumb it down for the consoles.

I hope it isn't. With how good the Half Life games are, Valve shouldn't alienate anyone from playing it. However, I'd hope that the game isn't poorly ported on any system. the game should play to each system's strengths rather than make it the same version for all.

It will probably be a timed exclusive to get more people signing up to Steam.

Unless Sony or whoever cuts another deal.

No way. If Portal 2 is anything to go buy, Valve knows how to make a proper PC port. There's no reason for them to PC exclusive. Also Half Life 2 was on consoles.

The first console version of HL2 (was the xbox 1 version) came out a year after the PC version. Then the other console versions came out a year after that. If Valve wants to make HL3 for PC and wait 1 year before releasing console version, I have no issues. I just don't want Half Life 3 and the future valve engine to get turned into a pile of crap because of consoles holding it back.

This.

I don't want it on consoles if its holding it back from greatness and is increasing their dev time. I say if it IS to be on consoles then do what this guy said. Release the PC version and spend time after that porting it to the consoles. The PC is where its at for HL and if Valve make omissions to play to the console crowd then they will bring a S*** storm of hate.

This is all assuming the game actually is in development or ever will be

Yeah, it's notreally a port but also not PC-exclusive. I can't think of a generic name to call games that don't fit either of those.

How about they fix HL2 before releasing HL3? Since that achievements and graphics patch the game is a buggy mess.

I personally don't see a reason why they should keep it PC exclusive. Left 4 Dead and Portal 2 did just fine despite being multiplatform.

Well Valve has Steam which dominates pretty much the majority of the market and since a lot of us would buy it off steam they get 100% of the money :P

People with the disposable income to upgrade their PC hardware will steal PC software? I don't see the connection. Obviously pirating is an issue, but I don't think it's as big as many publishers make it out to be.

Just look at the Witcher 2 article Cd Projekt shows that they don't care much about the pirate numbers and are glad about how they treat their customers yet you see all the users acting worse as if its the end of the world.

Honestly... making a PC exclusive is just dumb. Why would a developer intentionally limit the potential profit margin for a game? I don't even own a console and I still understand that if more peopl get to play your game, you make more money. Simple as that.
