No one needs a cooler. I don't know why half the people on this board say you do. Anyways, don't let the cooler get you down, man. Just slap on the stock cooler and have some fun. :)xsubtownerx
Because if you wan to overclock you pretty much need a 3rd party cooler to get anywhere.

1920 X 1080 which makes things even smaller lol

Is it not filling the entire screen? Open the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) and go to "My Digital Flat Panels". Then pick "Scaling Options". Set it to 0%.

i don't have a lot off experience with widescreens, i dislike em. I would just keep on trying with resolutions and other settings till you find the right spot. These are common widescreen resolutions 1280x720 1365x768 1600x900 1920x1080

the money spent on a cpu cooler could have been spent on the higher performing cpu anyways ex/ i5 2500k + $60 cooler = $280 and i7 2600k + stock cooler = $300

Yeah but an i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz > i7 2600k @ stock for gaming.

Agreed. Not to mention we're talking about a 2-4 FPS increase in games once the 3.7 GHz is passed. Hardly seems worth it. If you want to cool your system, do it with water. At least it'll make the PC look cool. My opinion. :P

But you dont have to overclock a new PC unless it was a real budget one.

But that upgrade offers no performance gain in games. HT cant be used and the better on-board gpu is turned of on P67 motherboards. An overclock to 4.8Ghz would be a MUXC better option.

Water cooling is NOT needed to reach 5Ghz overclocks on Sandy Bridge, its simply a waste of money. Getting a Corsair H70 or a Titan Fenrir or Thermaltake Friowill be sufficient. If you use the stock cooler dont expect to get past 3.8Ghz'ish, also at that the fan would be annoyingly loud due to it being terribly weak.

Every CPU becomes outdated down the line, if you overclock from 3.3Ghz to 4.8Ghz then expect to get another few years of use from it, its just the best option unless you WANT to spend extra cash buying new rigs more often.

Ofcourse, my point was that you dont have to overclock a sandy bridge for a while. I mean overclock when you feel it's becoming necessary, dont understand why people must overclock immediately.

Oh, I wasn't insinuating that you need to overclock right away. Its just a massive pain in the ass removing your motherboard JUST to put in a cooler down the line, its easier just to do it at the same time.

The point I was making is that anything passed 3.7 ghz isn't going to give you any real gain to your FPS in games anyways. Especially you play at 1080p on a single monitor. The money you save by not buying a "cooler" can be put into a better GPU. Which in my opinion is far more important to gaming than the CPU.

Most new cases have a removable side panel to access the back of the motherboard.

it will mean you have longer before you will need to upgrade. If you only care about now then a Phenom II X4 will max any game out there.
