Compiled by ArtisPavel http://artistpavel.blogspot.com/2009/04/stalker-complete-2009.html

This mod has been created with a thought of bringing the beautiful and immersive game of STALKER from the last generation era, when it was created to an up-to-date experience you'd expect from games you play in 2009. I did not try to include every single mod out there that changes the game beyond recognition, that was not the point. The following list is the carefully chosen essential collection of most advanced and aesthetically pleasant modifications, created by talented concept artists and programmers in the past 2 years. These are meant to technically and artistically enhance the game without compromising the original feel and atmosphere developers meant you to see. You'll notice every single detail has been retouched and has a polished feel to it.

This is ideal for first time players or people who have beaten the game when it first came out and now are coming back to replay it on new rig with higher resolution and better graphics.

This, in my opinion, is the most aesthetically pleasing compilation modification for Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, and it adds minimal gameplay tweaks in order to improve the experience without straying too much from the original balance and gameplay. Most credit goes to ArtistPavel for merging and creating compatibility with these mods. The promotional image lists more modders who contributed to this pack, and you can find everyone in the readme.

Stalker Complete 2009 - 1.4.3 .exe (automatic) 659.22 MB

STALKER Complete 2009 now comes with easy .exe installer, compatible with XP, Vista, Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit

This installer will install the entire mod compilation, enable gamedata folder support in the fsgame.ltx file, and make various changes in your user.ltx file. In short, it automates the core installation steps you would normally have to do manually. However, it will reset your in-game settings to their default values.

Compatibility:

  • Retail DVD versions ofS.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl game with 1.0005 (or 1.0006) patch
  • Direct2Drive digital copy with DigitalDistribution 1.0005 patch
  • Steam (launch & exit the game at least once, check for version 1.0005 and install the mod, start a new game after)

Make sure to patch the game before installing a mod, otherwise you will see a black screen on startup. To check if your game is patched, see lower left corner of the main menu screen, it should say ver. 1.0005 (or 1.0006). If nothing is there, that means it's version 1.000. If you have a Steam version, wait for it to get updatedautomatically.

A special note for Vista/Windows 7 users:
It is recommended to run this installer as Administrator (right click the installer file and select 'Run as Administrator'). This is suggested due to issues with UAC and Rights Management, making it possible to have an incomplete installation and/or "leftovers" after uninstalling. Running this installer as Administrator avoids such issues.
It's also recommened to temporary disable Microsoft Security Essentials (this can be done under Settings inside the program), as it will try to unpack and scan the installer resulting in unresponsive system.

Starting a new game is required!
(giving up on your progress is hard but many agree restarting the game is worth the appreciation of the difference a modded game makes, updating from version 1.32 and up doesn't require a restart).

For languages: Czech, Hispanic, French, German, Italian, Polish and Russian, please download an Internationalpatch, otherwise your game won't start:Moddb.com

Performance:
----------------------------------------
@ 1680x1050:

8800GT 512MB: 30fps average, some stuttering.
GTX 260 896MB: 60fps average, smooth.

video settings:
- full dynamic lighting
- vision distance 100%
- object detail* 75%
- grass density 100%
- textures detail 100%
- anisotropic filtering 100%
- antialiasing** off
- sun shadow on
- grass shadow** off
- lighting distance 100%
- NPC flashlights on
- Shadow quality 100%

user.ltx:
r2_gloss_factor 2.5

* I recommend setting object detail (AF) to 75%, it plays nice with depth of field effect.
** sliders are non functional, you can force AA through the graphics card control panel at cost in performance
(use Nvidia's special game profile for Stalker).

This mod will run smooth as long as you have a video card with large amount of memory to accommodate textures,
it performs better than Clear Sky, while providing similar, often better visuals, it's as good as DirectX 9 can do.

---------------------------------------

Features

  • Sleeping Bag - always in the inventory and allows the player sleep in game.
  • Faction Change and Reset - now players have the ability to reset hostile status and join factions outside of the storyline.
  • Ragdoll Physics - natural death and hit animation, kills will no longer cause corpse ragdoll to fly backwards.
  • Bulb tweak - now you can shoot the lights out!
  • Gnomus' Scopes - high resolution scopes for widescreen and standard monitors.
  • Repair Kit - a special item to the game that allows you to repair weapons and armors out in the Zone. The only way to get this item is to loot it from an NPC's corpse.
  • Repair Services - Bar trader and Screw now sell weapons and armor repair services.
  • Chernobyl TV - replaced TV animation with actual footage about Chernobyl.
  • Elite Nightvision - black & white nightvision based on the psy_antenna postprocess effect. This one really makes you see in the dark.
  • ZRP Teleport - ESC+J shortcut lets you jump between the points in the environment.
  • Third-Person View - press F1, F2 and F3 to cycle through camera views; numpad + or - to zoom in/out (by default this feature enables camera toggle only, add -psp switch to a shortcut to activate a third-person gameplay, please refer to Technical FAQ page 15 for assistance).
  • Other features - authentic food and drinks skins, ability to drag dead creatures' bodies, ability to carry selected explosive fuel cans, barrels, shoot birds, and more.

Weather

Developed by a professional art studio, the weather system in STALKER Complete 2009 is the pinnacle of visual game design. It features work by several artists, including challenge winners from conceptart.org, the biggest concept art community producing work for games and movie industries. It's based on the same elements and principals found in representational art, such as aerial perspective, composition, balance, color theory, to name a few. The key features include:

  • Natural multi-phase day and night transition, based on daily observations, photographs and studies by artists from Dolgov Studio.
  • Vast distant views, creating large open world around player.
  • New multi-phase moon design authored by our studio.
  • Proper sun travel according to date (01.05.2012) and geographic location (Ukraine).
  • Enhanced High Dynamic Range lighting and Sun effects (including realistic sunsets and sunrises).
  • Number of weather cycles multiplied.
  • Different types of storms, fast and slow.
  • Wet surfaces during rain.
  • High resolution star constellation map.
  • Improved water animations.

(authors: Dolgov Studio, Argus-textures, Trojanuch, Sergy172)

Graphics

This mod takes full advantage of Shader Model 3.0/4.0 and introduces advanced shader technology first seen in Crysis and now being adopted by recent games, creating close-to-life illusion of true relief and depth, plus additional rendering techniques creating an enormous difference in the way the game looks:

  • Parallax Occlusion Mapping - gives 2D textures the illusion of 3D geometry, can be clearly seen on surfaces such as brick walls.
  • Screen Space Ambient Occlusion - a shading method, approximating the way light radiates in real life, creating soft shadows in corners and hard to reach places.
  • Depth of Field - a gradual decrease in sharpness, determined by the subject distance, for example a distant landscape will appear blurrier compared to near by objects.
  • Motion Blur - a streaking effect frequently used to show a sense of speed, when camera moves fast.
  • Particle system - enhanced rendering of fire, explosions, smoke, muzzle, sparks, falling leaves, anomalies, fog, etc.
  • Water Shaders - improved water effects ported from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky.
  • Fire Dynamic Lighting - fire illuminates the surroundings, casting dynamic shadows.

(authors: Sky4CE, Eggchen, NatVac)

Textures

A texture overhaul featuring the "Photorealistic Zone", a total rework of every texture in game by Argus over a 9 month period. Special attention has been given to preserve the game's original look while textures have been replaced with higher quality versions and manually bump edited files. Textures are heavily optimized to reduce performance drop.

  • Locations - all textures replaced with higher quality photographs with partial use of original files, creating highly detailed outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Living Creatures - mutated creatures have soaking wet flesh showing through wounds, it's almost disturbing. All humans in Zone have been retouched down to finest details, armor, shoes, wrinkles, faces, even eye balls.
  • Vehicles - 20 year old vehicles in the Zone now appear realistically rusty and abandoned.

(authors: Argus-textures, Domestos)

Bug Fixes

STALKER's notorious reputation of bug-ridden-like-an-anthill title ends here. Over the past 2 years, a joint community effort has accumulated fixes for most known bugs and "crash to desktop" exits left out by developers after patch 1.0005, with release of the unofficial community patch, which in addition adds numerous positive gameplay tweaks, like real weapons names, reduced head bobbing, increased actor's height, expanded carry weight limit, extended quest time, etc. (the list is endless).(authors: NatVac, Fatrap, Victim, DC-, silverpower, omero, Decane, fitzroy_doll, motiv-8, BobBQ, Snowball, TSL16b, Eggchen, barin, Alex-Tommy, GSC forums...)

AI

Artificial Intelligence received major reworking:

  • New abilities - NPCs can avoid anomalies, remove dead bodies from camp sites, throw grenades, change armor, heal other NPCs. You can also give weapons and armor to NPCs by selling or dropping it near them and giving them a privacy to change, they may not accept it based on preferences, if they do, they will use new stuff.
  • Early detection - removed the ability for NPC's to notice you at unrealistically large distances.
  • Stealth - knife and other critical sounds such as falling dead bodies, grass, footsteps, have been properly commented to reduce their sound radius.
  • Death panic - reduced the sound distance of death cries, in original game it was the cause of panic of the whole camp population, once one member was hit, as it was set to 40 meters).

(authors: xStream, BAC9-FLCL, KoGar, Darius6, {imperialreign}, MulleR, Mongol)

Sound

Mod replaces massive amount of sounds in game, including weapons, anomalies, equipment clatter, footsteps, nightlife, bullet fly-by sounds and more with quality equivalents. Adds unique ambient sounds for each weather cycle, repetitive NPCs only pronounce their lines once, i.e. "Get out of here stalker", hundreds of additional ambient sounds like bar kitchen cooking, horror night and fog sounds, etc.(authors: Darius6, {imperialreign}, MulleR, Mongol)

Music

New music collection, featuring 84 additional acoustic guitar compositions added to the existing set plus a few vocal songs in authentic language, unique to each faction. This is the only music mod where compositions have been performed live and recorded specifically for this game by a musician, no MIDI or generic karaoke tracks were used. This is live music with human touch that blends seamlessly with ambient soundtrack and makes you wish spending more time near camp fire. In addition, 19 authentic music tracks can be heard on the radio and megaphones throughout the Zone. NPCs will now randomly play the harmonica as well as the guitar.(authors: Dolgov Studio, MulleR, Mongol)

UI

A successful graphic overhaul mod can't be complete without custom user interface, this is why we are proud to present our very own new Main Menu, Loading Screen, and redesigned HUD, created by a our graphic design firm, incorporating existing in-game art and photographs of real Chernobyl tragedy artefacts, adding unique art ****and authentic feel. Certain buttons have been conveniently reorganized for more intuitive access and new shortcuts added, such as ESC+S which works like a "smart quick-save" creating a separate save file with level name, in-game date, and time (example: 01_escape_2012-05-01_0535.sav) each time it's used.(authors: Dolgov Studio, NatVac)

Dang I'm only about 50% complete with STALKER and I doubt I'll want to go back through again, but this looks really tempting to install and start over from day 1. Do the system requirements change or are they still the same?

Maybe I will try this, because STALKER was a letdown, but maybe this will improve it enough for me to like it.

I need to finish S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so maybe when I upgrade my computer I'll use this mod to finish it and then go through again with OL. This mod compilation looks really nice though.

Nice mod, looks like it would be great for people who want the original gameplay experience but with enhanced sound and visuals. Personally though I'm having a blast with SmP 2.3 as I think the original gameplay needed a bit of tuning.

Install:
----------------------------------------
Designed and tested for STALKER Version 1.0005/1.0006
New game is required only if you experience crashes when trying to load saved
games.

1. In the main STALKER directory (by default it's "C: Program
FilesTHQS.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl", and for Steam users it should
be located in "Steam/SteamApps/Common/Stalker shadow of Chernobyl"), locate file
"fsgame.ltx", open with Notepad and change both variables in the first line to
"true":

$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$|

2. Copy 'gamedata' folder to main STALKER directory.

3. In the "user.ltx" file change gloss factor to 2.5:

r2_gloss_factor 2.5

- to find "user.ltx", XP users go to:
"C:/Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsstalker-shocuser.ltx"

- Vista/Win7 users just type "stalker-shoc" in Windows Explorer search or go
to:
"C:UsersPublicDocumentsstalker-shocuser.ltx"

- Steam users go to "steamsteamappscommonstalker shadow of
chernobyl_appdata_" if I'm not mistaken.

The 3rd step is optional but recommended, since textures were designed with
those settings. Make sure you backup your original "user.ltx" before making
changes.

End of Instructions...

There is no gamedata folder. And what do I do with the "STALKER_Complete_2009.7z" file???

Can someone help me out with applying this mod??? Thanks.

hey guys, correct, OL focuses on changing the gameplay, not so much graphics, SC2009 stays true to game's original roots but brings bug fixes and updates graphics with latest tech, this is the only compilation mod that has some type of art direction, where I paid attention to what kind of textures go in, color balance, etc.

old saves may work in some cases, recommended GPU is something above 512MB, 1GB being ideal, otherwise there could be shuttering when textures are loaded from HDD during gameplay.

This is great.

I always thought STALKER was a bit underwhelming visually, specifically in the outside environment. Interior environments were really good though.

Fortunately the gameplay made up for it

Thanks! See, you aren't so devious after all. The only part that threw me off was that I wasn't using that 7z app to extract, I had never heard of it or used it before. Usually Winace handles anything I need to unzip and/or extract.

Although I keep getting owned by Shotguns lol!

i loved this game, beat it. installed a mod package got half way thru it and it wouldnt stop crashing so i never played it again. i then got clear sky, and without mods it kept crashing at about 5 hours into the game, i was so mad, had all the drivers, patches, everything. reinstalled it, loaded the same checkpoints, still crashed all the time. so i never got to enjoy my copy of clear sky. i love the idea behind this game, but it seems like it's made horribly, so many problems. this mod looks great, but i'm gonna wait to see what stalker 3 has, i dont' feel like putting up with all the bugs again and crashes and losing all of your data stress

Hmm, never had a single problem, but then again I rarely do. Except Gothic 3, but even that is good to go now (after enough patches).

I installed them together and it caused my game to crash when loading a level.

devious742

So just wondering, should I install the float32 mod? I noticed it being mentioned in regards to stalker mods.

And if so, where can I get that? It seems www.thefloatingpoint.org is dead now.

Thanks!

Yes, and there's more swap because of the new textures. Anyway, it looks amazing and has some facilities that make the gameplay perfect - the sleeping bag and the enemies using 'nades.

My favourite addition is the background photographs, they add a lot to the atmosphere.

Do not install FLOAT32!! :) okie... since ithis mod already contains mods that make the game look better.. plus it will brake the game.. it will conflict with the mod.. there is no need.. this mod already contains the best there is... so no need in downloading any other gfx mods...

New game is required only if you experience crashes when trying to load saved games.

anyone know how to speed up the mouse cursor inside menu's? my god this must be the most annoying thing ever. i turned up mouse senstivity in the game and all that did was increase how fast i turn and aim in the game, but soon as i bring up the invintory i have to lift my mouse 2x to get from one side of the screen to the other. also is there a keyboard key to grab everything off of bodies? so i don't have to click on "take all"

OL is a seperant mod, an as such the 2 mods will conflict with each other. stalker complete trys to stay true to the original game, while OL throws in all kinds of other stuff and completely changes the way the game is played.

The A.I. is still kind of questionable.

The one part early in the game, where the military group of about 5 is guarding the bridge and will only allow you to pass if you pay them $500. Well being the cheap kind of guy I am, I was like, I don't think so, time to pay the price for being greedy. So I walked up to the first guy and shot him point blank with a my shotgun then ran for the hills. Once I was sure they lost me, I went back and the rest of them were all gathered together next to that nearest building I guess waiting for me to come out. So I was on the road about maybe 20 meters away or so, and I figured I would shot at them to get their attention. Well, I didn't get their attention, instead I realized I could picked them all off 1 by 1, and since they didn't run or move and were all gathered together I took them all out fairly quickly and it only took about 10 shots. Pretty funny stuff, yet kinda lame at the same time. But eventhough that happened, its pretty fun.
