Got BC2. Tried about half an hour of the SP campaign to see how it runs, and it runs beautifully at high settings, no AA and AFx16, at my native resolution of 1920x1080. Now that's an example of how to optimize a game.

What's your specs? Not everybody may be able to run the game at those settings.

My specs are extremely humble. Q6600@2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2 800MHz, GeForce 8800GT 512MB. Thing is, I was thinking about lowering detail to medium level as the game suggested, but I didn't see any difference in performance. Checked some online performance guides and saw that the only things that really hurt performance was that HBAO thing and AA, both of which are off. I was really impressed with what I saw, on a technical level. It looks great and runs smoothly. The only time I noticed slowdown was when there was a big explosion and lots of particles and smoke filled the screen. It was only momentary, though, and lasted for about a second.

Odd. I have a worse processor, but better GPU and the game barely runs at medium for me. I can't even get 60FPS when I put everything all the way down. I guess BC2 just hates Dual Core CPUs. Pentium Dual Core E5200 OC'd to 3GHz and 8800GTX. With 4 gb of ddr2 ram.

BC2 is very CPU-heavy. It's a fact.

One of the reasons I recently upgraded to a quad-core Xeon (which I haven't updated on my signature yet).

This. Even with a GTX 460, the game makes my E8400 C2D cry. It's the reason I'm buying a quad core because I'm certain if BC2 acts this crappy with my CPU, then I know BF3 isn't gonna be much better. Considering how sketchy the frame-rate is for my dual core, I wouldn't even recommend the game to anyone with less than a tri-core.

If you can't run BFBC2 well, no way will you run BF3 well. I wonder how it will look on my PC even with fully destructible CITIES and photo realistic graphics. The time to get a quad is now. That wasn't the case when quads first came out but now you won't optimize games if you don't have one.

I don't get a constant 60FPS all the time, but there's no slowdown or stutters and aiming is a breeze. Maybe it is indeed your CPU

I just installed fraps cause I was curious about my FPS. I had everything turned all the way up and 1920x1080 res and my FPS didn't go below 80 most of the time it was 100+. I dont think a 955 is an amazing CPU eigther. but at least its quad I guess.

A lot of people will trade their CPU for your 955. What GPU/GPUs you using? I use XFire to monitor FPS levels, record my game play hours, take screenies and movies, and a lot more. I never game without XFire as long as my internet is up. I only bust out the FRAPS when XFire in-game isn't working.

You have no AA to not go below 80 FPS? You getting that from SP or MP? MP FPS isn't as nice as SP is.

When I tested the fps it was a mutliplayer map but the server was empty. I just got done playing a few hours and my fps did dip down to 50ish during explosions and lots of action

FPS always drops when the server is full. It is nice to run the game locked @ 60 FPS, max settings, 1920x1200 res, 8XAA as I do. The AA is set to 8 times but everything is still jagged and stair stepped. FPS drops as the AA is increased so I know it is on. Very strange.
