Basically this thread is just for talking about the next edition to the Elder Scrolls Series...

I'll post news about what we know and basically just ask whatever ya want! :)

What we know so far!:

It will be made and development will start

Majority of the Public want it to be set in Skyrim (likely)

This is the first I am hearing of this game. +1 To it being more like Morrowind, I still play that from time to time. Thats more than I can say for Oblivion, I haven't touched that game in a long time.

Comparing all four of the ES games so far (the CRPGs, not the affiliated things like advenntures), in one respect Oblivion was already more like Daggerfall than I prefer, with tons of bugs, in another it was also like Daggerfall, the bug fixes were slow to nonexistent. I'd much rather have the better quality of Arena and Morrowind than the sloppy work of Daggerfall and Oblivion.

I agree with the rest of you who say Morrowind is better than Oblivion. The key problem in Oblivion for me was the change from a hand crafted world. In Oblivion the world was generated using an algorithm, the uniqueness of the areas and spontaneity of finding hand placed gear/loot was gone.. no longer could you stumble upon the 1 of 3 daedric swords and feel incredibly lucky for having explored. Really in general the whole game of Oblivion was "dumbed" down, except for the radiant AI which was definitely better than Morrowinds statue NPC's.

Other gripes with Oblivion:

1. Scaling leveled enemies.

2. Removal of fun and interesting skills/armor/magic/weapons options

3. No real "vision" for the way the world looks and feels ... its pretty, but it just feels soulless to me because of the some of the aforementioned reasons.

The game needs better interaction with the npcs. Sure they walk around and usually follow a daily schedule, but thats it.... You kill them, you don't kill them, it doesn't matter. I'd also like the vampire bits fleshed out by, oh, say 700%? I'm not a vampire buff but oblivions vampiric features were pretty pathetic, even with great mods.

I want Elder Scrolls V to combine the best of Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind had deeper gameplay and a great story, while Oblvion had better combat and impressive AI, for the time. And one more thing, I don't want consoles to be the main platform for Elder Scrolls V. Thats what happened to Oblivion and BioShock, both were mainly made on consoles, and it didn't turn out like we expected. I expected Oblivion and BioShock to be super-deep in gameplay, like Morrowind and System Shock 2. Instead, we got the almost-complete opposite.

Yeah, it'd be best if it was like Morrowind with Oblivion's journal and combat system (I hated shooting at people at point blank range with an arrow in Morrowind and not doing any damage). And for god's sake, more voice actors!!

I agree with these things. I would also like an rpg with more game sequences that alter reality by turning the world on its head...like the part of the Mage's quest in Oblivion where you enter someone's dream to rescue them. To me, that was one of the funnest and most interesting parts of Oblivion. I wish there was more stuff like that...maybe take some ques from Alice by American McGee.

It would also be nice to perhaps have some more puzzles, as well. They wouldn't have to be too hard. Just something besides the endless point, click and fight that was Oblivion. Puzzles like you might find in NWN1, Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate.

Yes, you are right on. People talk crap about oblivion and they are usually the ones who worship Morrowind, and vice-versa. And while I personally prefer Morrowind I think Oblivion had some strong points th..at I wouldn't mind seeing carried over into the fifth installment...But what would be really awesome is if someone modded Morrowind into the Oblivion engine. heck I would pay money for that if it was well done...

They need to fix the **** interface/inventory. I'd like the traditional paper doll where you drag rather than the console-ish menus that made items and spells so clumsy.

Skyrim? I'd rather not run around and constantly bump into smug High Elves. But I'm hoping they set it in a fantasy-esque environment. Sure the forests were great in Cyrodiil, but I cant think of anywhere besides Morrowind that would set that feel. I was thinking the game could be set in Hammerfell, but from what I know it should just look a lot like the West Weald. So I guess Skyrim might be better...As long as theres a healthy balance between races. Other than that, cool! Cant wait. :D

Dittittito'd.

However, if they'd manage to somehow combine all the good parts of Morrowind AND Oblivion, ok, that would be cool. But that's kinda what I was hoping for with Oblivion: A Morrowind with all the faults removed. Oh boy was I ever wrong, and a lot of other people too.

The setting doesn't really matter that much as long as they do it right. Morrowind was the perfect example of a weird setting executed nicely.
Oblivion was a perfect example of a standard setting executed horribly.
I think that if they'd added just a bit more medieval flavor to Oblivion, it would have been a much better game.

Also, if its going to be a mmorpg its probably going to have to adopt the lame 3rd person look like wow and guild wars.....I wouldn't like that at all. But if they managed to make it like oblivion but a mmorpg then that would rock :o Although they won't because of the lag that much freedom of movement would cause.

Don't really care how they make it - as long as it can be modded.

As with Morrowind - and oblivion - Virtually every bug and problem with both games was fixed within months by the modding community.

Elder Scrolls V could be a piece of crap - but if the construction set works, then I don't care

I personally hope it will have scaling leveled of the enemies. *ducks* Hopefully better implemented so as my worse experience in morrowind was getting one hit killed:(. although I guess it worked I never went to that place 'till the story told me to.

I would however like a more complex subplot and a more interesting main story line would be nice too, better inferace, less bugs (well I never got one but I understand many people did) etc

I want TES 5 to be more like Morrowind. As long as the depth is there, I'll like it. None of that copy/paste textures and trees nonsense. No loot levelling and a richer and more unique atmosphere than the boring forestry of Oblivion. More voice actors, weapons, skills and armor would be nice too. I hope that they focus on gameplay depth and hand-crafting (like someone put it) this time, they have the engine, so they do not have to use all their time on developing new technology.

Maybe I'm being over-pessimistic, but I don't think there's any point hoping for a good ES V. Oblivion is proof that the people at Bethesda don't give a damn about anything else than easy, risk-free commercial success. And they got plenty of money and awards for that piece of junk, so I don't see why they'd change their approach.

Yeah, that would be a nice change. Invent an entirely new set of enemies that havenothing to do with earth. A complete fantasy. Shivering Isles went there somewhat. Expand on that.

Personally I think they should make it so the creature levels are more random, I mean come on going into the depths of some unknown dungeon which should have nothing living in it (note the word living), and finding a wolf, I'd expect something like a ghoul even if it would be several levels higher than my character, and the loot would definetly be higher than your character, afterall the deeper the dungeon the more likely its never been stripped of everything.

And new names would be fantastic, even if they aren't completely original a bit of variety wouldn't kill. Hell even giving the breed of dog would be better than just having dog.

As to story, the freedom of Morrowind would be fantastic, without the 'hold your hand' guidance arrows, after all half the fun of the game is getting there to begin with.

Concerning it being made online, that wouldn't be too bad as long as it was only the arena, pit your characters against each other, anything else would be kinda stupid.

The one thing I hated about Morrowind and that I loved about Oblivion was finding the places you needed to go. Making it so it was marked on your map made it that much better of a game, for me. But the teleport thing made it retarded. What's the point of having a huge world if you're not going to walk on it? I guess in Oblivion's case that was a good thing, being the world the copy-paste that it was... I'd say an ES without the scaling levels crap, more spells and items variety and a world that was actually hand crafted with true secrets to uncover, while having things at least marked to a certain degree on your map and a better combat system than both... more strategy would be nice. Walking backwards while casting spells untill whatever it is you're killing dies isn't exactly fun, is it?

I liked Oblivion except for the poor storyline, crappy levelling system, and the fact that every dungeon, Oblivon gate, cave, fort and ruin was the same as the last with nothing unique.

The rest of the game i felt was good. Not too hectic on the RPG for me, but deep enough that I felt I was part of a world without being lost in it (like Morrowind).

It should take place across all of tamriel. With twice the quests as the original. it needs to be harder in later levels. And Patrick Stewart needs to voice again.

My wishlist:

  • No compass: The players must interact with NPCs in order to find a person or where to go.
  • Rewarding exploration: I want to find a treasure after finishing a hard dungeon, not a randomically generated trash.
  • Reformulate magical itens: It must bemuch harder to find and have unlimited use (charge system is **** especially when a magical sword depletes after 5 strikes).
  • NPCs should notice who you are and what you have done in order to like or dislike you, not that ridiculous minigame to convince people.
  • All the quests must have more than one solution, and always a choice that doesn't envolve combat.
  • The world can be smaller than Oblivion, but it must feel alive.
  • A larger diversity of skills, just like Daggerfall (climb, swin, etc).
  • A decent level up system: The player must feel the character progressing each level. The Fallout perks could be included. Also the monsters must no be scaled by the player's level. It's nice to killa weak enemy with one hit, and be killed by a troll with one hit when you're low level.
  • Graphic wise TES V could be like Oblivion, but with better human models and animations.

Firstly, I would be very interested to know if the screen shot on the forum of the mountain side and the lake is really from TES5. Now, my opinion I'd have to argue that Morrowind had a much deeper history if you actually took the time to read the in game history books and educate yourself on all the factions and houses. The player was also given a sense of how each race was percieved. For instance it was intriguing how Argonians were considered the lowest of the low and Kajit were all drug addicts. Altmer were arrogant and pious. The dunmer were resentfull of a new order moving in to radically change their ways of life and bash in on their culture. These are just to name a few key ways Morrowind was successfull in making it easier for players to fully immerse themselves into the game. I do have a complaint I'd like to make about Oblivions leveling up system...or lack there of. The player levels up...better quality weapons become available only then which takes away the excitement of looting dungeons...not to mention all of the caracters and creatures level up with you accordingly. What good does it serve to level up if everything levels up with the player? It's boring and in my mind pointless. I understand it could be argued that it becomes boring when you're beyond level 20 and nothing then is a challenge. Like it said...it's just my opinion. Another thing that I would like to see again is the ability to levitate. When you get stuck or you want to get to somewhere just out of the reach of your fingertips...levitation comes in really handy. Overall, what I would like to see in the next game would be a richer history, deeper culture, a smarter system for leveling up and I would like to see some of the darkness that was in Morrowind brought back. Sorry Oblivion...I still get goodbumps trekking through the Red Mountians...Oblivion just didn't do that to me. I'd like to be able to do some honest looting that's going to actually result in a decent haul. Maybe trade off by using the same Karma system you used in Fallout 3. Only if nobody's there to catch me don't dock me for being a bad guy...no one's gonna know who isn't around to care. hehe And Bethesda...may I just make one suggestion...utilize Xbox LIVE! It would be so awesome to meet up with my friends in whatever land we end up in next to take on quests together. Make it friendly to the player without LIVE, of course, but give something for the MMO people to chew on. I would really also like to explore more of the empire past Morrowind and Cyrodill. Keep it up with the expansions like you've done so well on Fallout. I really wanna forget I'm playing a game. I want to feel like I am the character again. That I'm the one casting the spells and banishing deadric demons to Oblivion with my blade. Give me more of that! ^_^

My hope is Aragonian and Khajiit character models would be something similar to the ones in Morrowind. I always liked how in Morrowind the races had pros and cons to each of them and it made the game world a bit more versatile.

Well I think that I will be a great game, and about the weapon thing... I'm sure we can create our own weapons, like Fallout III. Maby some other vehicels! And ofcourse armour, maby create some yourself too! And the engine, a new one ofcourse, they have worked on it since 2006. But ofcourse those are my thoughts...

Combine parts from Fallout and Oblivion, change and improve and the game could be A*.
