summary and thoughts : I intend to buy dark souls, even with gfwl. TB made a good point in that, yes, gfwl sucks, yes it has issues, but he still intends to buy the game because FROM software are doing their best with what they have. Why spend time and money to rewrite netcode when you have a system already in place to make a port easier. If the game does well enough, there is a good chance that their next game will be tailored to easily acceptable pc standards.

edit: Reading some posts, I think a lot of people misunderstood the whole gfwl and steam thing. The game WILL be sold on steam, but it WILL require a gfwl account and stuff.

He sounds so disingenuous I actually can't listen to him. It's like he's constantly forcing snark out & it just irritates the crap out of me. When he does videos with other people he also tries to dominate the commentary as much as he can & speaks over and interrupts them CONSTANTLY.

The only thing he's done that I think is a good idea is his "WTF is..." series. I like the idea, but his execution of it sucks. Instead of doing episodes of it on things people might not know much about, he just does it on games. Example "WTF is Guild Wars 2?" Wow, so creative.

Here's a better example:

So creative in the use of that title.

He makes a valid point about achievements. They are worthless. Moreso when GFWL encrypts your own saved games just to prevent achievement hacking.

Seriously, some games give achievements for the most stupid of things; like watching the opening cutscene, or completing a regular game mission, or just killing something for the first time. Seriously? Are those really "achievements"?

There are videos where I disagreed with him but he does have some videos wtih good valid points and arguement. I mean I find him entertaining but it might not be for everyone.

He's right. If they want people to stop pirating they should offer a better service, and one that works in every country so people have the option to purchase legally at the very least.

So many people love Steam but there is a reason for that, instead of adding a bunch of pointless DRM, Valve actually made Steam a better service in countries where there was a lot of piracy. GFWL was a crap service when it launched and it's still pretty much crap today. Only thing that has changed really is that we don't have to pay a fee to use it anymore. Gee, thanks Microsoft :roll:

I liked his video but there is one important point he didn't touch on: contracts. Any DRM scheme involves a contract and since the unveiled box art had GFWL it is safe to assume the contract to use that has been signed. Breaking said contract is pretty much a no-no from a business perspective.

Great perspective, it's very rare to find a balanced view on these sort of things. DS is still worth buying; if sales are good enough then the next game should be released on PC and perhaps with a better time frame they can release it on Steam.

He has some great videos imo.

Brings some attention to alot of indie pc games which is great.

For example alot of games people would not even know about without him doing some of his little videos.

Now I dont agree with his views all the time but most the time what hes doign is great for pc gaming as others get a view at exactly what some smaller known games are actually like while playing it.

GFWL ate one of my accounts. The login info just didn't work and I couldn't recover it. The update process is clunky as hell and the GUI sucks.

Having said that, It won't stop me from getting them game.

I agree with most views from totalbisquit and this is a nice heads up for Dark Souls, which I might have missed, if not for the thread :)

The hate on totalbisquit is kinda weird, he is making reviews on alot of games that can be hard to see find any information about, and he allways gives his unbiased oppinion of the matter at hand..

I like that guy's vids. Not that I watch all of them or anything, but his "WTF is..." series really helped learn about a number of games, because he goes quite in depth with the game and the gameplay. Much better than watching random gameplay videos mashed together.

He said it best with "more often than not, I may not buy the game at full price as a result". And that's the way I feel about Dark Souls. If it shows up on GMG and I can preorder it for $30, I'm there... but won't be paying 50 or 60.
