[QUOTE="SkyWard20"]

[QUOTE="Kell_the_Gamer"] Unreal is a huge World of Warcraft fanboy, TB got popular because he got into the Cata closed beta and was one of the few that did videos of it. After cata launched he turned into a hater of WoW and constantly attacked WoW for being casual and what not, which is Unreal's ultimate rage button.Raxzor

"Huge fanboy"? He's probably a bigger fanboy of Blizzard's games than their mothers are. I've no idea how you can kiss so much butt for one company like he does.

Pretty much this, actually me and Unreal formed a guild very early in WoW's life called 'Heroes of Azeroth' and is a huge WoW fan. So I really wouldn't listen to what she has to say about TB who is a famous WoW critic. TB has some of the best commentary for today's PC scene than anyone out there and has very high quality videos and he has moral values and won't support a game if he thinks the dev/publisher are ripping of gamers.

Pretty much this...

I am not aware of anyone out there...blogger,youtuber or gamecritic,to be more to the point than TB...

For all of you that dont like TB(for whatever the reason that might be) name another person who is more onest more to the point than TB is...name someone...

[QUOTE="-wildflower-"]

[QUOTE="nutcrackr"]We should support Dark Souls even if it uses GFWL. Baby steps here people. Soon they will learn the glorious ways of Steam. SkyWard20

Why? Why should people support something they are unhappy about? PC gamers (or any gamer, customer, for that matter) shouldn't have to jump through hoops and accept anything. We are paying our hard earned money for a product and we should get what we want, everything we want. The companies are the ones who should be trying to please us and not the other way around.

IF GFWL makes you that unhappy then by all means, don't buy the game. You're free to think companies whose games you haven't bought owe you and demand perfection just as anyone else, while not in love with GFWL, is free to not let themselves be bothered by it.

You can't demand that people be unhappy with something just as anyone can't demand that you buy something. That's equally terrible 'consumer advocacy'.

And where did I "demand that people be unhappy" with the game? I didn't. I couldn't care less about this stupid little console action-jrpg, GFWL, or not. I'm just tired of the, "we should be thankful that they are allowing us to give them our money" attitude.

He was a bit overboard, but not unjustified. He was able to tell pretty much what anyone would like to tell the PR department for an obvious disregard to functionality in a game.

You can't deny that he have contributed something positive. Thanks to him uploading a video that got 220 000+ views, that informed about the problems that low fOV can cause, and the fact that it is possible to add a slider , the devs decided to add an FOV-slider after all.

Yeap. I'm buying this game two times on PC. I'm not a fan of Games for Windows LIVE, but Namco is taking a big risk releasing this game on PC.

Show that a market for these games are on PC and hope that their next game is released on PC at the same time as the console versions. And with them having the knowledge that their is indeed a good market over here, we will get a more PC friendly version.

ultrapc

How are they taking a big risk? The way it was explained is that they went the cheapest, quickest route to getting the game to the PC.

why risk spending money to rewrite the net code when there's a cheaper and faster way , and specially that this is the first souls game on the pc and is not guaranteed to succeed unlike the console version which has an established fan base , they saw that there's a demand from the pc community so this port is like a test , if it ends up being successful then I'm sure we'll see more of their games on the PC in the future , and they did not exactly go cheap with the port , they're adding a lot of content for the pc version .

Hmmm, I see how it is.

Or they could be using those same resources on developing stuff for the already established base on consoles.

All this hate for Dark souls with GFWL is stupid. It's not THAT bad. For a userbase that demanded the game come to their system and then to b!tch about it like this is ridiculous. get over it and stop sounding so entitled. They didn't even have to bring it to PC in the first place

kris9031998

Have you EVER had a bad experience with GFWL? I've had things like freezes, game saves disappearing, updates not working, incredibly bad lag in multiplayer, etc. Just because you haven't have bad problems doesn't mean others haven't.

QFT

i remember playing GeoW on PC(don't ask why), and then i reached the final level of the game.

then, the next day, when i intended to(finally), finish it.... the save file was gone.

Nothing, no problem, no notice, no virus, just... Gone.

No, he's a dick for attacking the community manager of 2K. He could've been a nice chap about it and be polite like she was but instead he raged online like a douche. He's a pompous arse and should be called out for it. It's awful that people cheer and encourage such behaviour. The end doesn't justify the means in this case, far from it.

Maybe it makes more sense if you know what this "history" is about. I have no idea.

Is it so impossible for you to believe that people might want a business to do well?

Making it so hard for yourself to understand that some people like to give their money to a business or service, want it to do well because they see them as people who are good at their jobs and deserve to be successful, just makes you look like a stereotypical American customer. The world doesn't revolve around your dollar or wallet.

Only you could translate a thread where people recommend a game despite GFWL, as telling others to 'suck it up and buy something they don't like'.

I don't hate him, I just dislike him. I don't know him personally, apparently he's a troll that was banned from the WoW forums years ago and was unbanned then banned again. He's apparently the only person to have been unbanned on there. That's not the reason I dislike him though. I just find him a fat obnoxious tea sipper who's popular for posting a crapload of videos of content many people wanted to see on youtube. He's done nothing substantial or interesting, yet I see his name frequenting various forums and discussions.-Unreal-

Watched the video. I don't have a problem with most of TotalBiscuit's videos. He's not to everyone's taste, but he often tells it like it is, though he can go a bit overboard sometimes. I find his impressions and coverage of games useful, but when it comes to his opinions on certain topics I either agree or disagree and leave it at that. Regarding GFWL, I agree with many of his points, but I don't agree with his comment that gamers should simply buy the game to 'show their support' to the developer if they want the game. Gamers have to make up their own minds about what they are willing (or not willing) to support. Unfortunately sales figures are often construed by the industry as a big 'thumbs up' that they're doing the right thing, when often they aren't. If a developer listens to their fanbase, via community feedback or whatever, then fair enough. Use that avenue to voice your displeasure about their game decisions.

Which is what a media personality, who commentates is. The guy makes quick look videos on youtube for a living as well as commentating Starcraft matches, what are you expecting - the holy trinity of developer, journalist and aficionado? While you're on your soapbox, why not actually reflect your argument on games journalism in its entirety, because that's certainly the territory you're in of you're going to point fingers.

Yes.

And being a vocal dick to someone in a PR position, combined with community pressure ended up in a better change to the game.

Considering that users who bought the game had to find a work around themselves, I can't blame people being pissed off and vocal; however I'm not about to suggest that validates people being asshats

. In this instance there was actually a reason and something productive done, this wasn't lets say the Jennifer Helper bombard.

Considering that users who bought the game had to find a work around themselves, I can't blame people being pissed off and vocal; however I'm not about to suggest that validates people being asshats

. In this instance there was actually a reason and something productive done, this wasn't lets say the Jennifer Helper bombard.

Agreed.

He would've been better off just creating a video about it in the first place. I can't imagine he was the only person who was vocal about it.

Lol at people giving TB hate he has his opinions just like everyone, there is no one person that every single gamer will agree on, seems like alot of jealousy coming from people. I do feel he has a good sense of moral value and gives attention to small indie games that deserve to be looked at.

I think he did, and indeed I don't think he was the only vocal person either - but I'm just going by what I know and saw at the time.

Regarding GFWL, I agree with many of his points, but I don't agree with his comment that gamers should simply buy the game to 'show their support' to the developer if they want the game. Gamers have to make up their own minds about what they are willing (or not willing) to support.RobertBowen
And PC gamers did make their minds up, Namco Bandai are only porting this game because enough PC gamers asked for it. Now some people getting their panties in a twist because it's GFWL.

Souls' games have done pretty well, now if they don't do well on PC (especially after PC gamers asking for it) I can't see them bothering with the next game.

I guess buying a whole console/console version to play their other future game sounds better than just have GFWL on PC?

I've been saying that all along yet people don't get it.

Most PC gamers don't understand the implications of having to re-write entire parts of a video game for a simple port, especially when there are tools and a platform out there that eliminate the time and investment needed to re-write the core networking functions of the engine.

It's clear the game was never designed for the PC, so to be getting a PC port is excellent in it's own way. Yes GFWL sucks, but it's a lot better than waiting another year for them the re-write and test a PC version.

After Crysis 2 and BF3 launched, the PC community showed to me the majority have no idea how game programming works, or any computer programming for that matter. So I shouldn't be shocked when people can't wrap it around their heads why GFWL is a logical approach.

There is also the fact that a lot of PC gamers have some sort of complex where PC gaming is like a fanatical jihadist religion. If something even slightly resembles something on a console, they scoff at it. GFWL with all of its problems also has the unfortunate quality of resembling something on a console (the interface and most of the games actually support gamepads...oh the horror of it!).

Some of the hate can be blamed on GFWL and its problems, some of it is a lack of understanding, and some of it is this pathological state of mind that many PC gamers find themselves in (PC elitism).

Don't believe me? Try starting a thread about gamepad support and watch the flaming begin.

Me? Im just happy to have a port of DS. Now I can sell my PS3 and that money goes to a new video card.

Does that even matter to the consumer? Unless this is released at a budget price, I fail to see how relevant it is to us how costly the development of a PC port is. There are people who have had NUMEROUS issues with GFWL and want to avoid the service altogether, which is perfectly fine. I don't think those people should be blamed for not supporting this title if it comes with such a drawback as GFWL.

And for a game like Dark Souls, keeping my save files from PC to PC might be more important than the other GFWL titles i own. With encrypted saves, I don't even know how that works.

How about I word it in terms that matter to a consumer.

If they don't use GFWL, the game would probably be on the PC in early 2013 at the earliest as they'll have to bascially rebuild the whole game from scratch. Doing so will cause further delays to any other game in the series. Even worse, the added costs of development will mean a $60 price point.

I totally understand the argument, and do agree that it might seem 'hypocritical' for people not to buy the game after asking for it to be ported. But if someone really doesn't like GFWL (for whatever reason), it's their choice if they don't want to support it. They shouldn't have to compromise their stance due to peer pressure, or the insinuation that future games won't be ported. What's worse - someone taking a stance on something they might not like, or compromising their stance due to some perceived emotional blackmail? I'm sure the game will do well on PC either way. Personally, I haven't experienced problems with GFWL myself, although I haven't bought that many games requiring it. And I'm not interested in Dark Souls, so I have no 'agenda' here. But this kind of discussion has arisen before around other issues, such as DRM. Do you buy that game you really wanted, and just put up with something else you really don't like that might sour the deal for you? Or do you stick by your guns, no matter what? It's an interesting dilemma.

So ur argument is: "as long as it comes on PC i dont care if is a **** console port"...I have "grow" some kind of respect for you,not that much, but enough to not insult you or ridicule your comments...so that being said...Are you pleased with Resident Evil 4??As long as it on PC,You dont care that it is a horrid unplayable port?

Are you aware of one of the latest "GFWL" GCI matchmaking is the worst on the planet and drops you from games every freaking 2 or 3 matches???Are you aware of the fact that the same CGI that uses GFWL lets you in the lobby searching for games about half an hour at times???

I myself dont want a freaking crippled Dark Souls because they used GFWL...I want the full and normal/intended experience...If you cannot do that...dont do it...ill buy the game for the PS3...

Where is ur rational/logical argument behind ur comment?

@Wasdie - To put it simply; we wouldn't care how long it took and would be willing to wait as long as we needed to have a very high quailty port. I'm disapointed that they're rushing this at all.

Who is we? You don't speak for pc gamers.

I never considered GFWL to be anything other than an annoyance. Who is to say that with Dark Souls we are going to encounter huge issues or that the port is going to terrible? I'd rather have a port than none at all (if the port weren't easy, they probably wouldn't do it) and I'd rather have it this century.

I bet in the end Dark Souls online component will work better on PC than on consoles. Lets face it...the online part of Dark Souls was pretty crappy. "Invasion failed. Invasion failed. Summoning failed. Summoning failed."
