According to another thread on this forum you all like to build computers and are willing to help people like me out who have little knowledge of how to do it. My budget is no more than $1300 and my main concern is that I want to run WoW on max settings. If I could play other games reasonably well that would be nice as well. The $1300 needs to include a monitor too and does not have to be a top of the line monitor either. I will be doing my shopping at Newegg unless you all know a better place. I had built a pretend machine on newegg and saved it as a wishlist but am not really sure how to display it but will give the link that I have anyway. You all, if you do not mind, can look at it and tell me if I did something wrong. Also, feel free to build me a computer if you want lol.

The link to the wishlist is at https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=14989168

Looks pretty good. I'm guessing it wouldn't run Crysis though? I have to add a hard drive on that tho because you forgot that one but wow you were fast at doing that, did you already have those bookmarked lol?

Also, from what I have been reading on these forums, aren't quad cores pointless at this very moment since most games don't utilize all 4 or am I wrong? I probably am because I get things backwards all the time. Trying to maximize the best bang for my buck.

Or you could bump him down to a Cooler Master 690 saving 70$, Changing that antec psu for the Corsair 750 TX going for 100$ or maybe it was 109.99$ after mail and rebate. It's better then the antec one. Then he would only have to spare 30$ and he could get himself a HD5870.

Thanks for the build marc, it looks nice as well. My main concern when I attempted to this on my own is that I were getting incompatible parts which would be my luck. I get everything here and end up finding out I can't use any of it lol. Here is what I had:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138118

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145

Now I have no idea if I even need the aftermarket cooler but reviews had said it was likely I would need it so I included it. I have no idea if any of the parts are actually compatible but that is what I just worked on personally over the coarse of the day, yes it took an entire day because I am indeed such a noob at this.

Also, at the above statements, I would not mind spending a bit more money if it means experiencing things on a much more pleasant level.

You can overclock in a cm690 just fine. It can hold like 7 fans. And even if he doesn't do that. I think the switch to this psu is a way better choice http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=corsair%20750tx and it is also 10$ cheaper then the antec.

You all talk about overclocking and such and frankly that is way over my head. I know if I ended up attempting to 'overclock' something, I would kill it. None of these will work well without overclocking? Also, if me asking questions is bothering you guys I am sorry. I wasn't even sure if it was allowed here to keep asking so many questions but I don't know any pc gamers in real life.

Honestly, if i were you i wouldn't overclock. I mean i didn't overclock my rig. I'm just to concerned about my computer, especially since it voids the warranty. I'd say switch down to the Cm690 save 70$, switch to the psu i should you, save another 10$. And don't buy a video card. Then in a month or two, when the Hd5870 comes out, instead of paying the 200$ you were going to pay. Pay 280$ ( That'd still be in your budget) and pull 20$ out from somewhere.

Haha lol. You do realise this computer is going to RAPE wow right? Anyways keep marc's build, and switch out the psu he gave you for the one i gave you. And if you aren't going to overclock, get the Cooler Master 690 case for 69.99$

You are free to ask as much and all question you desire in this forum and i shall reply to most of i that i can i will show benchmark i don't ask faith neither to blind believe word i just said a sentence without benchmark for once here il show them :more fps = always better : the more mhz the more fps

But Take note you think you'd kill it ? hell no it simple motherboard as option to autoshutdown at excesive heat and excesive heat is the only thing that kill processor not overclocking it in fact they made for it so you get it from 3.2 / 3.4Ghz to 3.8hz without much hassle

as long you have a Great cooling Case + A cpu cooling great enough for that i say it a thing to do so it match core i7 920 stock's

And it Arya24 Build i just did post is thing in url + money
. so it araya24 i won't accept honor for is work ;) but i take honor for the benchmark and explanation but Arya24 is also one of my friend and as learn a bit from my building as well i think so ;) even if i did it i could not beat it by more then 10$-20$ By use alternative selling place and sales ;)

but either way I know pc alot and i know that OC gain a lot of performances in several game from Phenom II X4 OC Compare to Core i7 920 OC specially more noticable when you don't use en enthuaist gpu build setup such as 4870x2 because you get like only 35-40fps then you get 49+fps from overclocking it just like if you removed most of the lags

cause if you think with a single HD4890 1GB you can max most of new game incoming with 4x/8x aa + 16AF + max Graphic with 60fps+ that not true but OC will make it much more easy but if i was you and have the money wait HD5870 which said to release for 299$ which is cheaper then current price of Nvidia 285GTX and on top of that it would run the game that are Shader model 5.0 = better graphic and some other feature that are only to DX11 Build GPU

yes but that should not happen most of people i know whoa s Phenom II X4 every since the 940 they haven't ad any issue and did oc so did most of people who bough E8400 got them at 3.8 / 4.0ghz they haven't ad any issue and if anything go wrong then if the cpu was defective but that rare.

Well if you put thermalpaste you freak the warranty : if you put a cpu cooler i heard it not . if you oc they can't really know if you did ;)But in either way it not dangerous people paranoia way too much with warranty of today's for cpu / mobo : for gpu it normal they are unstable things

But it True if you mess up in installation of cpu / motherboard there zero warranty's if you don't know how calmy install the thing try to find someone around you who know how to do so :) as for me dad did most of the installation technic thing since he as lot of experiance so he could do it right and faster then my own hand would but i observed quite lot how you put pc togther it easy :)

Depend on ur money mrklowny and if you overclock : if you try that : Get a Prolimatech megahalem + 1 Scythe ultra kaze if money not a huge issue while if you want something nearly as powerful and cool lot it like 3C more hot according Several benchmark you usally save up 30$ over prolimatech + kaze

there is an alternative it look a bit weird but it in the top 6 Best cpu heatsink cooler it called Scythe mugen II + buy 120mm 2x 2600RPM FAN

But amd phenom II X4 Thermal endurnace is much weaker then Core i7 920 D0 Stepping thermal endurance how ever but it oc great and give good performances [

img]http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/coolers/zalman-cnps10x-extreme/48_diagr_amd.png[/img]
maybe i should not have talk about oc but most of benchmark show how it great to get those thing oc and it easy most of the case to do it so you get a performances of core i7 920 2.6ghz where the Phenom II X4 would have less fps then it by 3-5fps

Thermal-stuff ? you just make it on you'r own or pc shop around be more calm. use video guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1NxsHpaL_s
It if you oc that you are a nervous ? but if you don't it not dangerous :

it installing a cpu in the motherboard socket then connect cable it go all smooth and easy there no fear to do all you need is to be calm and patient if it take 3 hour ? then be taking 3 hour but in the end it will be all running smooth :

beside that the cpu cooler coudl be bad mounted in some case such as V8 / Prolimatech megahalem but that won't damage cpu at all it just that the airflow won't be optimized : and thermal-paste is a need it cool off it easy to install

or where you live ? look around in few town of you there must be pc shop ask them what fee for building up you'r pc for the pc part they can do it in few minute those are working in fixing any issue going with pc it would cost more build it ur self usually by 30-50$ but in the end it built

I'm all for trying to do it on my own, I mean I know I can hook up everything fine, that part isn't rocket science but maybe if I don't overclock anything then I can just keep the regular cooling that comes with the cpu and not have to add anything. Just want to play this first build safe.

Am I right to assume that if I did indeed hook up everything up and had no intention of overclocking at this very time that I could probably get away with just the stock fan and not have to worry about adding an aftermarket one plus adding the thermal paste or whatever it is called to it?

if u dont put a diffrent cpu cooler, the stock one already has thermal paste on the back so u dont have to apply it. with the build i put u dont have to overclock

yeah PCI-E 2.0 : DX11 : September 2009 you should wait that card that would probabely make you less need a OC To see a Great performances on 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 because when you want to max out thing at 1080P 16:9 / 16:10 it make the dif of not lagging once a while or not but either way it should perform great enough to play at 45-50fps of 55-60fps :

According that Single HD5870 1GB as less fps then 4870x2 but more then 285GTX

Thank you, I still may wait for that dx11 card to come out that you all talked about. It would fit fine in this computer yes since it probably will be pci as well?MrKlowny
Please build the computer yourself and I promise to show you how!

Well, Ultimate has a bad habbit of "removing" people who do not hold promises (yes, he is a pro assassin), so you better do what you are told to do. If I see a badge AlienWare or CyberPower on your new rig, you are a man of the past :D

Ok guys here I go again. This time, without looking at anything anyone has posted, I am going to build a 'pretend' system using Newegg. I'd like some feedback on what you all think too about what it may be able to run and if it is worth the money. Trying this kinda from a noob position but after learning about certain things about motherboards and hardware in general so here goes.

  • Case:COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - $139.99
  • Processor:AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - $190.99
  • Motherboard:MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $164.99
  • Video Card: XFX HD-489A-ZDFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail - $199.99
  • Memory:G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3 - $119.99
  • Hard Drive:Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - $89.99
  • Power Supply:CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC - $109.99
  • CD/DVD Rom:Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD/CD Rewritable Drive - $26.99
  • Monitor:LG W2353V-PF Black 23" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000:1 w/ Smart Package - $219.99

Total Price: $1262.92 - Not bad at all!

After viewing someone elses list that they have right on this same thread I realize it is so much alike theirs with mainly the exception of the power supply, memory, and monitor. A lot have said that you do not need 6gb of ram but I was doing some thinking. If Vista 64 bit can take up to as much as 2gb of ram (estimation going on here) then the other 4gb could be just for gaming, I dunno, just a thought lol.

Would you all care to tell me what you think? If you can tell me a better part to get then please do. Sorry for so many posts here, I am just so excited about getting a new computer I am about to wet myself lol, feels orgasmic in a really geeky way. Thank you!

Edit: Did I forget anything? Should I get another CPU fan or something? I don't plan on overclocking.

the 1 TB is a Good Hard Drive lot of speed : anyway if you wait HD5870 you will need to upgrade only much further in future it said to release around september 10 the rumour and price of 299$ For HD5870 who will defeat 285GTX at 100% Sure in every benchmark and have more power then 285GTX while cost more or less then 285GTX after MIR (300$)

Yes, I have been considering the HD5870 and since I won't be building this machine right at this very moment (most likely in a month or two) that is something I have definitely looked into. I merely put the gfx card there as a placement.
