When I got mine, there was nothing in the $300 range that came anywhere near a 460.

570 SSC FTW edition because I wanted Nvidia's features, and EVGA is a quality company. I like top end performance, but not the prices for top end. Got mine for $300

I have 2 5850s. I bought my first one last year because it looked like an awesome card and I wanted to try ATI. I bought my second one in March of this year because I wanted a big upgrade that wouldn't cost a lot. I'm very happy with them and they'll probably last me until my next build.

I personally would never spend that much dough on a video card. My limit is < 200 which is annoying because I really want to get the 6950

evga gtx 280 for me was price/preformance/warranty at the time i got it .. it was the best bang for the buck with a lifetime warranty (with overclocking w/evga precion covered by warranty) (when i upgrade will probably be another evga card if it still has the lifetime warranty w/ overclocking included)

I brought MSI 560ti OC after having a GTX295 i realised that was overkill after having some over heating issues with it i ended up selling it on ebay for $275 AUD and picked a the 560 new for the same price. I wanted something with good price/preformance and DX11 without forking out extra for a 570 but it was a semi large price increase and i firgured a 560 would be more then enough this time around. I looked at the 6870 and 6950 but for some reason i just wanted to stick with nvidia. And i will never fork out alot of money for the highest end GPU again.

SLI 470's because at the time (5-6 months ago) they were the best bang for the buck, especially considering I waited for a good sale and got both for around $360, minus another $100 after I sold my GTX 260.It was a close race with CF 6870s that have a little better scaling, ended up going with the 470s as they have more OC percentage headroom/physx/better tesselationand arguably better drivers (yeah yeah don't start a war here lol, they also seem to release drivers more often).

Edit: man.....what can I do to stop gamespot merging all my words together?

Well back in 2007 the 8800GT was the card to get great performance for the price. And Crysis was the game to push the card and graphics. Then in late 2008 Nvidia was coming out with the next line in gpu's that were nearly 2x faster or more then the Geforce 8's, so instead of spending another 200+ I spent $125 for another 8800GT and it gave me a performance boost in the same level as those GTX 200's.

Currently got an 8800GTS as that's what I could stretch to at the time (it was a reasonable card then :P). Next week I should receive my new machine with a HD6870. Ordered that because it fitted my needs/budget and came free with Shogun 2!I tend to only need mid range cards these days as I only run at 1280x1024.

Msi Geforce GTX 460 1gb "Cyclone" for $189 at Microcenter

When I built my Phenom II x4 rig back in September I intially had a HD 5770 in there and although

it had good performance, I just wasn't satisfied with it. So after a few months I wanted something a little more

long term, so I went back to Microcenter and initially was looking at the 6870 but found it was out of my

Budget, saw this card next to it and brought it home. Did some Research on it, and never looked back.

Have it overclocked to 825/1900 at the moment. Love it!

I have the same GPU that you do, and I've overclocked it even a bit more. I've had a better experience with Nvidia drivers and stability, so I went with the 560 Ti SOC. It has excellent, quiet cooling, was about $260, and runs neck and neck with a GTX 570/480 in most games. It was a logical choice for me.

I had to get the 950 MHz version because the 1 GHz wasn't in stock. But I too have overclocked it a bit and its not running at 1004 MHz with a shader clock of 2000 MHz (I think) its really a beast of a card for its price. I have never seen anything like it

I made the mistake of getting an ASUS M4A87TD EVO mobo and its not SLI ready. It has one PCI 16x and 1 PCI 4x which I only realised when I got it (Not very smart) so I also need an SLI mobo if I want to get 2 GPU's. Which I will probably have to do for BF3

GeForce 9800GTX+

I got it at the end of 2009 (literally, I ordered it on New Year's Eve). At the time it provided good performance at a reasonable price. I think it might actually have been on special offer at the time.

It's served me well over the last couple of years, and it's still holding its own. But I think by the end of the year I will probably be gagging for an upgrade.

MSI Radeon 6970 Lightning Twin Frozr III

PROS:
-15% Factory Overclocked
-Much Quieter Than Stock 6970
-Much Less Heat than Stock 6970
-Great OC Potential

CONS:
-Blows Hot Air into case rather than out (not a big deal for me, as I have excellent airflow in my case)
-$60 premium over stock 6970

because its a quality brand, and good value for the sleep, atm 580 are too expencive in relation to speed.

and i never buy ati because their numbering system is too confusing, i never know what anything is, atleast nvidia has some consistent simple progression.

i have a factory overclocked saphire radeon HD 5850 1GB toxic edition. theres a few reasons i got it 1) it was the best card on the market in my price range. 2) nvidia were late. not that i would have chosen nvidia by default due to layalty (i have had great experiences with both camps so thats not an issue) but i like to see both cards on the table. alas i needed a GPU and nvidia were late. 3) i got the factory overclocked version as it was the only one available. when the 5000 series released there were massive shortages. i wanted the bat mobile styled cooler :(. still the replacement cooler saphire have put on it is very good. very quiet and gets the job done nicely. at least i cant hear it over the din of my CPU cooler :P.

ATI 5770 because it plays all games reasonably well and was cheap enough to keep my budget under £500(after salvaging a DVD drive and HDD).

I had dual 8800GTS 512 that ran pretty much anything I threw at them - aside from Crysis maxed out. I wasn't aware of the G92 version of the 8800GTS family when the 640MB card came out (picked one up for my semi-new PC build; MB/CPU/GPU) for $300ish - it worked well. I found out just about 3 months later the 8800GTS 512 was released. Yeah for EVGA and their Step-Up Program - I moved up to the 8800GTS 512 without spending a dime and what a difference it made. A few months later I picked up a second 8800GTS 512 for just under $300 and ran them in SLI for almost 2.5 years. I now have dual GTX 280s, that I found at a steal of about $200 a pop - when the GTX 275/285 were still selling for $300+. There were two reasons I picked these cards up. 1) Obviously, brand new and the price for them. 2) One of these cards runs blow for blow against 2 8800GTS 512 cards in SLI. So I'm basically running 4x 8800GTS 512 cards now with my dual GTX 280s. I spent nearly $650 on the 8800GTS 512 cards. I spent nearly $420 on the GTX 280 cards - and basically double my performance. I've had these two cards for about 1.5 years now and probably will keep them another 1-2 years - unless some money or really good deal drops into my lap to upgrade from them.
