[QUOTE="fatshodan"][But whatever. Feel free to start an argument with me some other time, get argued down, back out and turn it into a supposed alpha male trip in a vain attempt to convince yourself that you somehow managed something.chesterocks7

LMAO. im not the only one who fits that description. sticks and stones my friend.

I didn't get argued down, I didn't back down, and I didn't try and turn my opponent into something other than a fellow arguer to try and convince myself something. I don't know who you might be talking about, but it's clearly not me.

For someone who supposedly stopped arguing four posts ago, and who doesn't care what I have to say, you sure are being persistent.

That they will add an option to turn off the crappy HL2 style music that I was horrified to hear while watching some gameplay movies from the latest IGN preview.

What music would that be? I thought there was only atmosphering music in the game.

I didn't like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. although I have to admit...

The graphics are somehow not the best but even then, they are different from what we're used to. Perhaps it's the atmosphere and environment. Speaking of which, they are one of the best immersive environments.

Almost everything that people say are bad about the game can be fixed with MODS.

Let's hope that's just some random music they put in to make the videos more interesting to watch.

Didn't we just discuss why STALKER is so great in another thread last week? I don't think you can really nail down what makes this game so great. The macabre atmosphere, the open world, the rpg elements to the game are all excellent. But it also has pretty convoluted story that isn't presented well. Yes, yes, most of that information is in your PDA but they could of presented the story better. The graphics to me are really good, not at the same level of Crysis but maybe a couple of notches below (if Crysis is a 10, Stalker is 8 ). But I think if I had to give one word to describe the game it definitely would be atmosphere. The game pulls you into this believable world and doesn't compromise itself or try to be something that someone expects out of a FPS. Most people I think, like I did, got frustrated with the game and quit after a couple of hours. Most people, unlike me, never went back to give a second chance. To bad, because it truly an excellent game.

Yeah but it shouldn't be broken in the first place though lol. Some people who buy the game might be oblivious to the fact that you can mod it!!

The prequel looks amazing, and it looks like their doing a good job fixing up all the problems that plagued S:SoC for e.g. a quick travel feature.

are they using a new graphics engine in clear sky? or at least a revamped engine? when i booted up the game last night, i found the graphics to be a little worse than i expected. they werent horrific, and i wasnt able to play for long so they might be better than my initial impressions, but they were definitely not as good as i expected.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who thinks stalker was one of the most underrated games of 2007. I think the love it or hate it thing comes from how well someone can deal with bugs. If your threshold for bugs is quite low you will stop playing (the original unpatched game that is) and start barking that it totally sucks. If, however, you manage to get past the bugs then you'll see it really offers a unique player experience.

Graphics and audio are great, from the gloomy menu music to the distant gunfire and shouts or wind and thunderstorms. Walking past some russian guys sitting around a campfire playing the guitar in the middle of nowhere. Different factions fighting fighting eachother when your not even there. You'll return to sites and find only corpses of guys you had just talked to. Lighting effects of your flashlight are absolutely the best I've ever seen and they make exploring underground tunnels quite spooky. I don't really understand why some people bash the graphics in general or say the game runs terrible. I can play it smoothly on a E6600 at 3.1Ghz and a 7950gx2 which is not exactly a high end machine. (1600x1200 4AA 16AF, all menu settings max)

Regarding bugs, yes there are quite some bugs. A lot of which can be squished with the latest patch and certain mods. The developers made some peculiar choices on the RPG side which can also be fixed with mods to make the game better. A few examples; The exoskeleton is the coolest armor obviously but once you finally get one you can't run with it, nice realism but totally impractical in such a large terrain. A mod enables running again. Another is that even though the game hints on the possibility several times you actually can't join any of the factions. With the right mod you'll be able to join Duty.

I really hope Clear skies will be all this and more having learned from SOC...
