if you have a lot of free time you should definitely try EVE, it's quite possibly the most rewarding mmo ever.

If you have the compulsive need to pay other people money so they can bore you to death then you should definitely try EVE.

I think out of all the high production MMOs you have played the best ones.... We will have a rerelease of FFXIV in a few months and WoW is currently mid expansion on Pandaria, so it might be worth jumping back into. I really enjoyed SWTOR, but found that I couldn't get into the end game very much.... I went back to WoW just because I was more excited about getting a piece of gear than the chance of getting a "mod".....

If you are  burnt out on GW2, you could give Rift a try.  Just play the first 20 levels for free and play around with classes and abilities for a while.  The only downside I experienced so far is the low populatioen at lower lvls, but it's pretty easy to level up solo for the first 50 lvls

Rift does seem cool I forgot about that one... The Secret World looks cool as well, and there is no long a monthly fee with the game.

I also wanted to add Defiance might be worth a try for you. Game seems to be moving strong, but I understand the mixed reviews as well. Game has issues, but is tons of fun.

I started playing Darkfall Unholy Wars. I like the concept but I'm going to quit because I just cannot sink that much time into a game to progress. It's just too much for me.

I wanted to enjoy it, but the grind is too much. Just to stay somewhat competitive you need to sink 30+ hours into it a week. I don't want to dedicate that much time to the game.

Yea, even though its beta your characters go onto release anyway so no harm. FFXIV ARR open beta will likely be around july/august time and those characters save over too. Rift is about the ONLY good WoW clone, avoid SWTOR.

If you are really interested in Rift.

Get the Rift Trial + Raptr

Then:

http://raptr.com/rewards/rift-storm-legion

The client for the Rift Trial is the same as normal.  So all you do is play it like normal and/or leave it running in the background with Raptr.  The promotion lasts until June 23 (or they run out of games), but you get experienced (top 60% based on time played) and you get a free copy of the game, free copy of expansion, free month of play time.

I'm playing Star Trek online, simply cause I want to design, and fly around in some Federation ships.

I wouldn't really recommend the game for normal mmo play, I have barely started to play the game, so I can't really recommend anything.

Though if anyone knows of any other 'recent' Star Trek game where I can do the same, then that would be cool.

The Secret World looks cool, but the combat not so much. The combat and movement feel floaty like in Oblivion and the weapons have no punch when shooting.

Rift and WoW I think are the two MMO's currently on the market that are worth playing. SWTOR and EVE are also good although swtor is not at the same quality and Eve is difficult to get into.

I second the EVE recommendations. Its probably the most rewarding MMO out there and has the most freedom. You're free to choose what you want to do or train for, and depending on who you join up with you will experience completely different game styles.

There was a time when I was subscribed to at least two MMORPGs at once (sometimes more) but now, I'm not playing any. The genre has become stale.  Now, if somebody made another game along the lines of SWG (the first year at least) and it wasn't filled with BS micro-transactions, I'd get excited again.

do not try EvE, it sucks. PVE gets boring really fast. it's only fun if you're a hardcore player.

try SWTOR for the class storylines.

If you actually plan on trying Eve send me a PM and I can help you get acclimated to the game. Eve is way more fun with friends.

Eve is not free to play.

Unless you're talking about playing with PLEX, but then you're still not playing for free. You still have to earn the ISK and purchase a PLEX someone paid RM for.

if you try eve , join a highly organized corp and train skills in pvp. eve is one of the most complex and deep games ever, the amount of stuff you can do in that game is incredible. unfortunately if youre not in a corp and just playing by yourself, the game is incredibly boring. pve in eve is as boring as boring can get even with friends but obviously its much worse solo as long as you focus on pvp and helping you corp youll have a great time

Honestly I can't think of many. I played WoW for many years, but after 8 years of on and off playing I'm burnt out for the time being. Rift is not a bad game by any means however I couldn't get into it. Defiance is apparantly decent. Other than that a majority of MMOs these days while not all terrible, are mostly boring WoW clones or generic fantasy MMMORGS. A notable exception is EVE Online, however EVE Online takes months to really learn and actually accomplish something.

Guild Wars 2 (Innovative game0 During a full month playing Guild Wars 2, I recorded impressions in a series of logs. The first was where I discovered an insatiable need to explore. In the second, I marveled at how easy it was to get off the beaten path, how unnecessary it seemed to be to form a party, and how generally amiable the community was. Part three was where I discovered crafting, and in log four I hopped into world vs world PvP and fell off rather a lot of cliffs. Granado espada Granado Espada is about discovering new continents during Europes Age of Exploration era between the 1500s and 1700's. The Multi character control (MMC) is the most unique feature of the game, allowing players to control a party of up to three characters at a time. The approach to this style of game play makes Granado Espada feel like a hybrid MMORPG and RTS. Granada Espada's automatic hunting system called Keep Mode is a function in the game that players seem to respond to positively. Players can grow their characters and family without the "grind" most MMO's are notorious for. There are over 100 characters to add to your party of three to control in each battle. This is where the strategy mechanic comes into play, as each battle, monster or dungeon requires a particular mix of characters to successfully defeat each challenge. I recently picked up The Secret World, and so far i'm really enjoying it. No subscription costs so that's always a massive plus. Only got around 10 hours logged so far but i really like it. It's got a skill system similar to GW1 (Limited to 7 abilities / passives), the quests are decent and differ from the standard MMO quests (Less kill x of this and more detective quest types), there is PvP but i've not tried that yet. Other than this i occasionally jump onto GW2. Gotta love no subscription costs. :P

Free to play means you don't pay anything to play the game, or now is every game you buy free to play?  And EVE actually has a monthly fee.

Also, it's Captain Obvious

RIFT if you want a good PvE mmo.

Otherwise go with EVE Online, that is ofc assuming that you the will to learn the game.

I would stay away from the MMO genre for the time being. It's at its worst state, but if you prefer to play something over nothing go with F2P only to kill some time. This way you are also helping the genre evolve and make companies merge and deliver a true MMO with MASSIVE class/profession choices, massive world featuring more freedom and player choices as well as allowing structure building like housing/hospitals/guilds/cantinas/bars/military bases and strict security against botting/cheating/3rd party programs/multiboxing etc.

It's been done in the past before WOW came and I'm glad I was part of that era to truly immerse myself in an epic scale, massive world. Now that's what I can see myself playing for years and gladly spend $ on. It's been now 2 years, 4 months and 3 days since I've spent $ on a new MMO. Yea I bought DCUO cuz of the great IP and on discount for $35.

I'm currently trying out Neverwinter and DCUO expansion DLC coming this month Origins. Aion 4.0 coming next month and then there is TERA as well as Age of Wushu that recently launched as well as Ragnarok 2.
