as long as the CPU its a fast dual core ( like yours) or a decent quad core then its makes alot more sense to upgrade the GPU especially from that godawful god awful 95500gt you have now My suggestion though since you have the money to buy an nvidia 480gtx is to upgrade to a $150 quad core CPu ( an lga 775 cpu since your M/b is not compatible with the newer i3/i5/i7's unless you plan to change that to ) in order to make your pc much more future proof and buy a gtx460 for about $250 which is the 3rd fastest nvidia card at an unbeatable price let alone its much more cooler and draws alot less power than the gtx480

for a gtx480 no For a gtx460 depends on the quality of the psu and the amperes the 12v lines are able to provide

If you are playing at 1280x1024 get am HD4850 or an HD4770. Both can be had for under $100 and both can run all games out there one high settings at 1680x1050.

They're simlilar to the GTS250. But if you're serious about getting a new GPU you'll probably want to look at new power supplies too

I think ill wait until the New Year and then ill buy new PSU and GTX 460 1GB because they are gonna be cheaper.

Just to mention my 9500GT can run GTA4 and BC2 ona high settings 1280x1024 because it has 1gb DDR3 and 128bus.

Yeah GPU all the way.

Only a few games are incredibly cpu intensive. (I'm looking at you, Shattered Horizons.)

For your budget the best bet would be to definitely get a stronger power supply. (I ALWAYS opt for a 80+ efficiency. But I never buy budget.. :>)

And definitely a high-mid gpu. I'd probably say any 2--GTX or Radeon 4980/5750+

I just bought a 470gtx and its coming in the mail tomorrow. :DD

I am considering these two:

Nvidia:http://www.grappologroup.com/oprema-za-racunare-beograd/nvidia/pci-e-gigabyte-gv-n460oc-1gi-gtx-460-1gb-ddr5-256bit-2xdvi-mini-hdmi-with-hdcp-prote/GRV0121A00000/

ATI:http://www.grappologroup.com/oprema-za-racunare-beograd/ati/pci-e-gigabyte-gv-r687d5-1gd-b-ati-6870-1gb-ddr5-256bit-2xdvi-hdmi-display-port/GRV0136A00000/

Nvidia is slightly cheaper but it has slower shader clock then my curent GPU (Nvidia 9500 GT ).

PS:Can anybody explain to me the importance of:

Core Clock

Memory Clock

and

Shader Clock

:D

[QUOTE="Kane04"]Best advice i can give: Go to a store or two and ask for an employee help, tell him how much money you have and what kinda PC you have home and let him help you pick the best for you. Use parts you already have, or sell your old PC to add a little money to your funds. Really ask for an employee help on a big hardware store, they normally really know their stuff.

I have to disagree, I found it more helpful when I was making my purchase for a gaming PC searching forums and what not.. If you do your research it really pays off.. Also there is the chance they will just try and make you buy there product... And it's so hard to find a good pc store that has decent components, or at least around here it is..

the 6870 is faster then the 460gtx. but don't know if it's a big price difrense in your currency.

the 6870 is between the 5850 and the 5870 in some benches it comes real close to a 470gtx.

so if it's in budget get that one ( I also just got one this week and love it :).

but for the low res you play the 460 will be good to

The difference is 52.5880$ to be precise :D

And if you have 6870 can you tell me what games are you playing and at what resolution ?

better ask what games I don't play lol

but for ress I can max about evry thing I play at 1920x1280 anno 1404, just cause 2 ,assasins creed, black ops, mafia 2 but without the extreme physics, metro runs also pretty damn good

at your resolution nothing would be a prob but the 460 can also handle that easy..

out of those 2 the 6870 is the better one but if you don't plan upgrading monitor soon both will be overkill for a long time

The i3 2100's gaming performance suggests that any pricier CPU is overkill. Seriously, a good CPU is affordable nowadays. I would rather purchase a premium GPU to pair it with the 2100.

GPU. Your CPU is only a problem if it's incredibly out of date.

GPU. But you might want to upgrade the CPU pretty soon because it will surely bottleneck with the 480.

Hmmmmm usually I like to say to myself, a balanced system is a healthy system, a core 2 quad and something cheaper than the GTX 480 (bit overkill for 1280x1024) will be a great step forward.

Buttt on the otherhand you could stick with the core 2 duounless your looking to play more of those CPU intensive such as GTA4, Total War series etc. Although I do have a good buddy of mine who was having quite a difficult time trying to run Black Ops on a core 2 duo, simple step up to an P55 based i7 and the performance increased dramatically, for arguments sake he was using a 9800gt and a Core 2 duo, not sure what model specifically.

Get Sandy Bridge if you're in the $180-$200 gap, they're more efficient / powerful.

I'm going to wait for Bulldozer, if that doesn't surpass the Intel Core i5-2500K then I'll have to get that instead of Bulldozer.

On topic, it's best to have a cpu that doesn't bottleneck your graphics card(s). Though a powerful GPU is all around important overall.

This is true as well, though seeing how hyped Bulldozer is I'm expecting it to be better than Sandy Bridge.

For gaming, you want a good GPU. Processors carry so little load nowadays, you can still get by more than well enough on a Core 2 dup. Unless you plan on doing an architectural jump(from 32 to 64-bit), I would focus on getting a good video card.

I read some articles about AMD HD 6870 and GTX 560 Ti and it says that 560 beats 6870 in every category.

I have a chance to sell 6870 and bye 560 Ti of GTX 470.

I was not shocked at performance of 6870 at what I see in newer games.

So sell 6870 bye 560 or 470 or stick with 6870 ???!!!:|:question::|

Because you shouldnt pay too much to upgrade from 6870 to GTX 560 as the performance difference isnt astronomical.

If you have to pay anymore then 50$ for the 560 Ti after you sell your 6870 I wouldn't even bother, its only 15-20% better depending on the resolution. Hell the 560 Ti at 1680 x 1050 is actually better then a 6950 2gb in most cases. (until you go higher resolutions)

I'm guessing you have $500 So you can sell your old PC and build a cheap pc, So you instead of what your getting get a i7-2500k($224) and Radeon 6870($219). That is more balanced than a Core 2 Duo and 480 I think, Then you'll probably need a new motherboard, so Il go with an ASUS P8P67 Pro($150). I've probably misread your post but If I haven't this is a much more balanced combo but goes a bit over the budget i used of $500. **Will edit and make full linked build later**

So you are saying that on my screen resolution it shouldn't make any difference?
